It may be beating a dead horse, but I need a question quickly answered, because I'm about to finish my final playthrough for mass effect. In the beginning of ME2, Miranda asks you if you killed or saved the council right? I just want to make sure I don't do anything stupid.

I can tell you that killing the council is the default history for a brand new character. I personally would save them to experience that alternative universe.

If you import a save I dare say that she won't ask that question. That sounds like she's asking to set up the parameters because you started a new ME 2 game rather than importing a save.

Sine Renegade options seem to be the default, I'd probably go with Anderson.

I picked Captain Anderson, even though I might never find out what happens if I picked Udina. I just said "Screw it, I'll deal with it".
