I completed Mass Effect a long time ago and backed up the save/config, etc. folder. I recently re-installed the game and placed the backed up save/config folders in the appropriate location. ME ran fine and recognized the saves. However, when I try to load the game from the saves it says it cannot. I'd rather not have to restart the game, so if anyone knows how I can recover my game from this, I'm all ears.

Edit: I have an Autosave and 4 Saves. All of them have "Last played 16/6/2008" so it knows how old the save is, however, they all also have "Time Played 0h.00m" when that is clearly incorrect. When I try to load any of the saves, this is what it says "The Save currently selected cannot be accessed. Please select from a different Save.".

I'd like to know this as well. I reformatted my hard drive today but I kept my saves. I'm re-installing right now, so I hope it works.



The game recognized them but you couldn't play them? ....that would frickin blow...I wanted to finish it up to to level 60. I played it up to level 50 and then continued that file so I could go to level 60, but I had to reformat before I could reach that level. Will my saves still run?

Well, if they are displaying 0h.00m, they would appear to be corrupted. So if the files are from a backup (like, a literal backup), try to get a copy again. If they are from a zip file, try unzipping again.

Edit: Jkim, there is no reason your saves shouldn't work. This is most likely a case of compression/decompression corruption.

I really don't want to restart all the way from square one...it's a fun game but i just don't have the physical time to replay the whole game at the moment. Hell, I'm so scared for my grades when ME2 comes out.... >.>

I completed ME1 on X360 right after it came out but now that I have a new PC I want to play ME2 there. I finished the game as 100% Renegade, did NOT save the council and appointed captain Anderson as chief of everything. Wrex was still alive at the end of the game and I let the woman die. I also saved the bug queen on one of the planets you visit early on in the game. I can't recall any other events that might be of significance for ME2 so I'd like to ask anyone who has a save file similar to this to e-mail it to me so that I can use it for the 2nd game.

I had backed up the save game files onto my external hdd. I tried again, but to no avail. I guess I will simply have to restart the game, since I would like to have my character and decisions carry onto ME2. It's rather unfortunate since I was ~100% done the game.

Has anyone heard if you used cheat codes on your ME1 save if that will effect importing it into ME2?
