Is Dragon Age: Inquisition going to be a make or break for you?

I remember a lot of older posts where people stated they would no longer pre-order games from Bioware following the disappointments that were SW:TOR, DA2, and ME 3 (due to the absolutely horrible initial ending (before the patch)).

I'm one of them, Bioware is no longer one of the untouchables for me that I'll trust, but then again neither is any other company if I'm honest with myself. So I won't pre-order Dragon Age: Inquisition, but will instead wait and see what happens. How's the gameplay, how's the length, the replayability, are the dialouges further dumbed down to the point of "click skull if you want to fight" "Click heart for flirt" "click question if you want to ask more"?

If Dragon Age: Inquisition is another failure, then the only games I might buy in the future, will be the ones with a price reduction of 75% or higher.

What about you folks? Still trust Bioware enough to pre-order or will you be putting on your sceptic hat and hold your money until you're satisfied with enough information to justify a purchase?

I'm part of an incredibly niche market, and although for the most part I don't like the direction Bioware is taking, they are still the only ones that will make tactical RPGs like Dragon Age. So if I don't like DA:I I am very likely to whine a lot but Bioware is the only dealer on the block and I need to get my fix.

The very concept of judging a game based on its predecessor (or any previous game of a company) and not by its own merits is beyond me.

I generally and quite literally only like RPG's, yes yes I'm in a very niche place but honestly Bioware have yet to overly cause disappointment to the point I'd forsake an entire company, yes the rushed job of DA II was upsetting but I still enjoyed what they managed to get out considering the harsh time constraints.

ME3's ending was very....abrupt, like the last sprint to the finish was completed with rocket boots, but I enjoyed every bit of the game until those final moments, the free ending dlc eased it quite alot. and the Citadel DLC was an absolutely perfect send off for the trilogy for me

Exactly! :D not many people seem to understand this unfortunately T___T

*shrug*

I love both DAO and DA2 and liked SWTOR - haven't played ME3 yet, so no opinion there. So from my perspective, BioWare's recent record is looking pretty great. If I ended up hating DAI, they would only have one strike against them from my point of view. (I guess if I end up hating ME3 it could hypothetically be two, but that was made by a different team with very little overlap. I'm not sure why we're judging future Dragon Age games by that anyway.)

Even if I ended up not liking Inquisition, I hated the Neverwinter Nights original campaign and it didn't put me off future BioWare games. I actually played the expansions and liked them more.

Have you looked into Shadowrun Returns and/or Pillars of Eternity? (That's a sincere inquiry, not snark.) If you like old school tactical CRPGs, those might turn out to be more your speed than BioWare's recent output.

Yeah Neverwinter's original campaign wasn't that great tbh, but the expansion campaigns were very enjoyable, and I can't wait for that Pillars of Eternity, I backed it when it first showed up on kickstarter :D

Aside from the last 10% of ME3, Bioware have never really disappointed me in any of their games that I've played.

I'll judge DA:I on its own merit, the disappointment of the ME3 ending has no bearing on whether I'll be buying the game or not.

DA2 and ME3 were not disappointments for me.

But I am not so obsessed with any single game company that I must buy either all their products or none at all. I already skipped SW:TOR sight unseen, because nothing will induce me to get into MMOs.

If a Bioware game suits my interests, I'll buy it. If it doesn't, I won't.

There are things they could do that would close my wallet to them forever, but the content of individual games is relevant to basically none of them.

huh... i know ppl who think Planescape Torment sucks because you have to read more than 3 lines of dialogue. all developers seem to acknowledge the existance of such gamers and their number. games have to be fast, easy, and effective nowadays, some struggle to have interesting content and/or to be politically-correct (whatever that means). i'm just getting old, i guess.

i don't consider DA2 or ME3 failures (SW:toR... yeah, that one is a big let down).

yeah, i'm gonna pre-order it as always. even tho heart/sword icons make me wanna hit my head against the wall very very hard.

I appreciate the suggestion but I just can't into isometric cRPGs. I've forced myself to play BG1, BG2, and PST, and while I at least liked the story of PST, by and large I wasn't really having any fun.

No, I don't see how they can make anything more offensive than mediocre.

Bioware taught me a lesson, I will never preorder a game from them again, I will wait a few days until people start finishing it and then decided whether or not I should buy it at full price or wait till it goes on sale.

The expansions were automatically more fun because they included Deekin. And an interesting story. And less Aribeth.

I backed PoE and am waiting impatiently until I can make my Godlike druid :) . (Or maybe amaua druid. Or orlan. I haven't completely decided on my race yet, but after their last update I am at least sold on druid as my class.)

I can see how that would be frustrating - there's a lot of overlap between the more tactical end of the RPG spectrum and isometric view, so if you like one and not the other there wouldn't be a lot to play.

I never pre-order, I usually wait until some reviews are out. Besides, I rather enjoyed DA2.

Whether or not I preorder will depend on how good the collectors edition is.

Yeeh Deekin was awesome <3 I loved his little cameo in NWN 2 as well, and yeah idk what is what about Aribeth but she face-heeled revolving doored to much for my liking

and yeah PoE, I really can't wait for it, can't decide on my race or class yet T___T

I don't see a reason to pre-order games unless the pre-order bonuses are really awesome. I've never had any problem with stores selling out for extended periods before, so what else would the point be? I don't know, I don't really get the need.

Bioware hasn't let me down yet, I love both DA:O and DA2, I also love the Mass Effect series including the original ending for ME3 I think people were a bit too harsh on Bioware for the ending(but I am happy that they expanded on it), I also like SW:TOR only reason I stopped playing that was because I'm not much of an MMO person, played through story a few times and was finished

I will be pre-ordering Inquisition, just waiting to see what the collectors edition looks like to see if that's worth getting or not

I'll pre-order it. I loved DA:2 & apart from the last 10 minutes ME3 was one of the most enjoyable games I've played. I never played SW:TOR because I'm not a huge fan of MMORPGs.

I'd perfer of multi-player RPGS ment co-op rather than MMO

So far DA:I looks great and is one of my most anticipated games of the year.

I'm not a huge fan of the older style RPGs so I like that Bioware is keeping the essence of those games alive while streamlining some of their more over complicated features e.g. crazy inventory and menu systems

I never bothered with SW:TOR due to not being a PC gamer. But the Bioware games I have played and enjoyed are SW: KotOR, Jade Empire, ME1, ME2, ME3, DA: Origins, DA II, and DA: Awakening. The only game I can say that I was completely disgusted with was ME3. That damn ending ruined the whole game for me (the original ending and even the Director's Cut). That ending I feel single-handedly destroyed the ME trilogy for me. I just can't imagine how anyone at Bioware thought that was a good way to end the trilogy. Just thinking about it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. So I'm hesitant when it comes to the ME franchise now. I'm still good with the Dragon Age team though. Aside from the repeated environments and dungeon designs of DA II, I enjoyed it. And the DLC, Legacy and Mark of the Assassin, were damn good. Bioware is still one of my favorites in the business though. At least they are continuously bringing us RPGs. It's my favorite genre and I feel that Bioware are the only ones who are catering to the genre.

No. Of course not. Otherwise I wouldn't be on these forums. I'll  buy DAI, then DA4, and DA5. Then hopefully they will finally someday make Jade Empire 2. And yes, I will buy that one too.

It's a break it.

Here are the reasons why I've decided to pre-order DA:I

1. 3+ year development cycle as oppose to ME3 and DA2.

2. Bioware has repeatedly shown in the past year that they're trying to learn from their past mistakes (beginning with DA2) and are giving this game they're all.

Bioware isn't stupid. They've done stupid things, no arguing that. But overall they're not dumb, they're very well aware that a lot of people have been disappointed with them lately. However everything they've been revealing with DA:I really shows that they're trying very hard to knock this game outta the park. So I'm willing to give them a good shot with this.

I'm confident that Dragon Age: Inquistion in terms of it's presentation and gameplay, will be simply amazing. However I can't say that for the story yet. Gameplay wise ME3 was solid, but what killed that game was it's writing (not just the ending) and how rushed it was. I mean the entire final 2 hours of that game had a very rushed feel to it. Arguably the biggest and my anticipated finale to a game ever, and the final battle amounted to firefights on a few streets of London. Laaaaaaaaaame. Sorry to go off on a tangent there, but my point is even if a game is fun to play, it can still be ruined by poor decision making.

Final Fantasy X-2 is a great example of this. Great gameplay, unbearable story. If DA:I disappoints me I won't be pre-ordering anymore. That doesn't mean I'll never play a Bioware game again though.
