My loyalty always resides in quality, among other factors. The standard must be there, if not, I'll conduct my business elsewhere- that simple.

Honestly, no. I'm one of the few that actually liked Dragon Age 2. In fact, I even liked parts of Mass Effect 3 (it was Mass Effect 2 that killed it for me, ME3 at least tried to improve despite taking a Mass-ive step back with the autodialogue and excessive focus on multiplayer b.s.). And while I think SW: TOR was a bad move (the fans wanted KOTOR3 the fans should have GOT KOTOR3), I think BioWare is one of those companies that learns from their mistakes. They TRIED doing an MMO. They had to LEARN that it simply doesn't work. Long term at least.

The problem is that sequels and companies evolve and don't remain the same. Not every Dragon Age game is going to be like Origins. Not every Mass Effect game will be like the first. And if there is a KOTOR 3, it won't be like the first. If there is a Jade Empire 2 somewhere down the road, it will probably be extremely revamped and different. As a company Bioware is going to experiment and try new avenues. I wouldn't be surprised to see them venturing into non-rpgs down the road.  I also respect that from a business standpoint they have to try different things and bring in new fans, not just cater to the ones they have.

BioWare is still one of the very few companies that makes the kind of games I like. BioWare is also one of the few companies that really focuses on inclusivity and tries to minimize much of the parities (gender, sexuality) that go on in most video game media, whereas most companies focus on the 'majority demographic'. RPGs with character creation that are single player, story driven and have some form of choice. Obsidian and Bethesda does too, but Bethesda is more open world focused and less story driven. Good style but different fruit. The only others I know of are indie European developers, and honestly not too many have good writing or gameplay for that matter. (That said I'll be giving Divinity: Original Sin and Bound by Flame a shot). Most Japanese rpgs have predefined characters and stories (I don't even call them rpgs, I call them interactive movies), and the ones that do offer character creation skimp on the story and the choices (or become some MMO), which is why I rarely play them.

That said, should BioWare start going the jrpg route (or less focus on rpgs/character creation), that's when I can say I'll start distancing myself. Till then, I'm still a loyal customer.

since I did like dragon age: 2.  I think it's safe to say DA:I will "make it" for me.

Considering Mass Effect 3, I'm going to have to say it's at least a possible break.  I couldn't even play the game because it wouldn't import my character's face, but everything I read about it afterward made that seem like a blessing in disguise.  Even before that, many unique features got stripped out of ME2 in favor of more traditional shooter mechanics, like no real inventory management and thermal clips (ammo).  IMO, this greatly detracted from what the original game accomplished.

With the Dragon Age franchise, DA2 just... I have a love-hate relationship with that game.  Some aspects I thought were great, but they got bogged down by so many problems (recycled environments, enemies jumping from the sky, and some rather annoying forced storyline segments).  I'm willing to believe that the devs have identified certain features from DA2 as flaws, but that doesn't mean that everything I saw as a problem is something they'd agree on.  If they removed or changed even half of the things I didn't like about DA2, that would be more than enough... eh... depending on which things...

I get the feeling that DA:I is going to be a great game, but we'll see what happens.

Note that ME3 walked back inventory management a bit in ME3, since weapon modding returned. I'm not saying that you would have liked the game, but this supports your point about how Bio operates.

Interesting that you thought ME1's inventory management to be unique; I thought that was one of the most traditional things about the design. (Not a fan of traditional CRPG inventory myself; my main problem with ME2's system was that they didn't abolish shops while they were at it.)

I know I said long ago I'd swore myself of pre-ordering any Bioware games after the ending farce that was ME3, but being DA:I is being made by a different team who seem on the surface to have learned their mistakes from DA2, I MIGHT still pre-order DA:I depending on what I see released in the next info and trailer releases.

Me too.  After ME3.  But DA series didn't carry over the same character so each game stands alone.  I think if ME series had done that, I wouldn't have hated the endings as much because I wouldn't have had so much invested.  I would still have disliked the body at the end, but it wouldn't have been as devastating if it had been a new character.

I enjoyed DA:O and DA:2.  I am waiting to see some more information but I may pre-order it.

This game won't be a pre-order either, I'll wait to hear about the story because the combat looks a little over the top for my taste.  After I saw the last trailer where what looked like the protaganist fired a chain and then pulled himself throught he air to the enemy I really said wait and see on this one.

Yeah, I meant to mention the chain pull moves of the warrior (hither) and the rogue (thither) as well. They're so cheesy, they make me headdesk every time they show them, but at least the mundane classes don't seem to be walking, talking disco ball fireworks again. The evasive rolls aren't much better either but still not nearly as bad as the DA2 rogue's outrageous moves. Also, several arms and armors in general we've seen so far (and the Venatori's spiky half-naked gladiatorial armor in particular) aren't quite to my liking, but since (other then said Venatori) they are comfortably far from DA2's many bafflingly ridiculous JRPG/KMMO designs, I can deal with that.

I have loved every Bioware game I have played.  I think the ME3 ending debate is childish- the whole game was a wrap up of of the series.  DA2 focused on characters and story.  Loved them.  Are some of their games better than others, yes.  I think the writing has improved from game to game, and I think Bioware, even with its flaws, has created RPG's that far surpass anything else in the field.  I think that is obvious.

I've met and spoken with many of the minds behind the DA games, and they are creative, intelligent folks who really care about their game and fans.  They go out of their way to get our feedback and share information with us, answer our questions, and think about our advice.

I do not know what more could be asked for.  I preordered for my PS4 and my PC as soon as I was able, and bought a copy for a good friend.  I know I will love this game, even if there are flaws.

Necromancy response powers activate.

That's still an awful lot of money to spend on something you don't really want and don't think you'll like.

Yeah, $14.99 for a used copy of Dragon Age II....real expensive.

I'll always be interested in Bioware games because of the extensive customization options that come in an RPG package with excellent real-time gameplay. The unique way in which you get to interact with companions and the choice system is a gem too. Once I get over the gut punch of an ending to a particular series that meant something to me, I'll still play their games, but I also know what to expect in terms of writing. Their plots are not groundbreaking and neither are their characters.

Whether I pre-order it or not will depend entirely upon if I'm going to be around on October 7th, which is in the latter part of hunting season. I would if I knew I was going to be here though.

Bioware has already responded on this forum that this rumor is completely false.

http://forum.bioware...lay/?p=16512751

Indeed.  To the point where this thread mostly comes off as a thread to remind people how much they should dislike our past games and be critical of us going forward etc. etc. etc.  (Note, you should always be critical of what you are going to spend some money on)

A bump of an old thread with a "tease" of information that was already confirmed incorrect earlier in the week?  Complete with the resuscitation of the same old "why'd you buy the game"/"I got it ultra cheap" threads?

Convince me that the thread is useful....

I have never pre-ordered a game, so I have no level of disappointment to reference in that regard. I truly want DA:I to succeed, if for no other reason than to show other game producers how to do their product justice and honor their fans. Except for a few issues, I enjoyed DA:Origins and DA2 thoroughly and still play both, if that's any indication. I haven't dug deep enough into the Mass Effect world... I'm working on that, but I'm not sure how I feel about purchasing ME3, with all that's happened around it. Suffice it to say that I want BioWare to continue showing that they care. If they do that, I'll remain loyal, but at present, I'm very apprehensive about "putting the cart before the horse" in regards to games. Bethesda taught me a lesson I won't soon forget about buying into the hype. Thus far BioWare has not disappointed me, and my hope is that they won't this time either.

Having said all the above, I'm doing my best to ignore the mage hat. :D *hahaha*

Well I actually enjoyed much about SW:TOR.  I have played through all of the character stories that I wanted to and so there is not much there for me anymore, but it did give me a lot of value for my money in entertainment for those stories.

DA2 was not one of my favorite games, I did not HATE it, but I did have issues with it.  To be honest with myself, it was not really that bad, the DLC stuff was quite fun, the companons (most of them) were great, the banter was awesome, etc.  I feel that the biggest issue I had was that I just never really connected with the main character.  I could have ignored a whole lot of other issues if I had just liked Hawke.  So in the end, DA2 was just not really the game for me.

To me ME3 failed due to how great the first two games were, and the expectation of great things only to be let down.  Now much of the game was really awesome, there were some things that really did not sit well with me throughout the game, and once you get to the light beam it totally fell apart.  I have just decided that after the ship was shot to hell at the beginning of ME2 that everything was sheps mind slowly dying and hallucinating.

So basically ME3 is the only real 'fail' that Bioware has done for ME.

As far as DA:I goes - many things I have wanted have been put in the game.  We get to pick races again, We get to explore, two voices to choose from (I hope one is a deeper voice for males), 100 hours of gameplay! it sounds better and better to the point I preordered the deluxe, and will most likely go ahead and buy the super uber edition as well.

Make or break was never considered. I will pre order whatever uber edition they are coming out with. In all honesty I've enjoyed the worlds and stories (characters included) bioware have created.
To think it was all thanks to an elderly gentleman that worked at my local walmart that pitched dragon age, when he asked if he can help, and I answered "only if you know any good RPGs."

For the first time in my life I preordered a game and it's DAI. I'm looking forward to it and I won't be disappointed for sure, because I enjoyed every Bioware game I've played (including SWTOR, DAII and ME3).
