Video game movies have sucked because the people attached to them have been AWFUL. In regards to the analogy, swap out the highschool kids and insert Nasa and then maybe you get someone on the moon.

If I said man will never land on the moon beven though highschool kids were the only ones trying would that make any sense?

No. Well...sorta. A movie based on the ME universe would have to stand on it's own merits. Different mediums demand different things. If an ME movie depended too much on game-player's existing knowledge, it would flop. These things are doable, they're just done poorly far, far too often.
That and DA:O has way more movie potential. Epic battles + fantasy + elves aren't immortal (which would be refreshingly different in the fantasy movie genre).
