Hehe... thank you all for the positive acclaim of the Hunger Demon. I doubt that it will ever appear in game, but oh well.

Today, I have something slightly creepy-crawly for you. As I'm one of the more clichéd females, I don't like insects that much, but it's more the small ones I don't like and that get swatted. Bigger critters are just unceremoniously dumped outside.

Unfortunately, I doubt that this specimen here will agree to such a treatment very easily...

Image IPB

:o My absolute favorite from all the Dragon Age creatures - the Corrupted Spider Queen (oh, how I hate her) !
The spinnerets along with her thread are a little off, but at least the coloring is a little bit better than usual. While the one in the game is a little more colorful, I thought her to be a bit ordinary for being corrupted, so I fussed around with her exoskeleton and got this.

The greenish-white dots above her mandibles are supposed to be her eyes, but unfortunately, they look rather flat. =_= Oh well, I still have lots to learn...

Give me a can of Raid and it'll be dead ;) hehe

Nice spider art though. If I could offer suggestions on how to help with the eyes I would but since I'm horrible at it *hides stick figures* I'll leave it to the pros.

*hates spiders and all manners of insects with a passion*

That picture makes my skin crawl ><

That's basically how good it is! About the eyes, I suggest using black eyes with white dots as highlights to show the 3d aspect. If you really want to go into detail you can study how gems look like and paint the eyes that way.

Ya know, I once had my husband drive home 2.5 hours to kill a spider. Granted, it was as big as his fist (no lie, damned thing left a corpse, not a smear)... That picture of yours made various parts of my anatomy pucker..... Ugh!

Which is an arachnaphobe's way of saying "Bravo!"

Don't fear to create a Deviantart account, there are some professionals, but a loooot of the people there are not professionals at all (like me) and that's why you can find so many different types of art and artists, from the 12 years old kid who show a drawing he's done in class, to the photographer or the official illustrator of some famous video game.

I love your creatures' art :D is it a topic where everyone can post their creature art? or just a topic for your art? i love drawing monsters.

Hehe... *scratches head* I actually didn't want to scare you. I'm sorry! Maybe it's not as bad if you imagine it with a tiny white hat on its head? After all, it's blue... maybe one could pretend it's just a very creepy smurf?

I know, I have been on DeviantART once, when I was twelve... horrid experience. I was immature as hell, my stuff was even crappier and the few friends I had there left quickly in succession. Probably I'm traumatized a little; maybe I'll think about it again when I have improved.

Well, at first I just created it for my stuff, but I find your idea pretty nice. If you want to post some of your creatures, you - and everyone else willing - has a place here. ^_^ Seeing all the different styles of people, the different ideas... this sounds like it would be awesome. Go ahead!

I'm sorry about the double post (but at least I put a little time between Post I and Post II), but to welcome the weekend, I have a little ugly boring thing for you. While pondering about what creature I could disfigure next, I noticed that there was one particular darkspawn that I forgot, even though it was quite prominent...

Image IPB

It's an ogre! Again, this picture also doubles as a test of brushes and how to work with different styles. The ogre itself is not only the largest darkspawn found in the troops, but also the one with the most raw power. What was also noticeable about them is that they seem to be the most instinct-driven darkspawn, not thinking much about strategy or ambushing their opponents; they try to send their enemies to the ground and kill them as soon as possible - and even better, as many as possible.

I tried to focus on its face in order to show this side about him, but I failed. The picture should actually depict him with his mouth open, but the teeth rather look like its lips. So, for explanation: These are teeth. Well, I'd better get back to practise...

It's so hard to draw Ogre's horns. On the drawing I'm doing I found a way not to really draw them XD

ok thanks that's cool to have a common topic for creatures :)

You can has.

Image IPB

Might look strange, but the codex entry about the Shriek says... *blows dust from a large book* "They have been known to employ poison, often drawn from their own blood [...]" and that is exactly what this one does. Even though I haven't read the books, I heard that Darkspawn actually possess black blood, which is why it is black in the picture. Due to him having his mouth closed (and having a horrible reference picture) , he doesn't look much like a Shriek, but I assure you, he is one.

Howdy Chateau! :-)

Love the Shriek...keep thinking its like a Shriek wearing a man's skin in parts, or a man wearing Shriek pieces as armour.

Agree with MarcusDeVarro, the blood looks cool...and creepy.

I don't know if I should post that in my topic or not, but anyway it's a creature from DA, a werewolf from the elven forest! I tried a texture for the first time.

Wow, that is awesome! Much more awesome than my stuff! ^__^ His fur looks great and the background is very nice, too. How did you do that?

Okay... so I will try and post much less. The better artists deserve more place. :D

Wah ^^ I just want Evolvana to have enough space to post her work, too. No need to suffocate her nice picture up there. It's also that I am a little shy and this thread was already a big step for me, and seeing how much effort she puts in her pictures, I want to learn from her and put the new knowledge to good use.

Don't worry, the bestiary of Ferelden will suffer again, very soon...

Oh no continue to post! my illustrations take a lot of time to do so I don't want you to wait until I post other things, because you'll wait for a long time. I love to do your work and I like the creatures of DA, I follow what you do with pleasure :)

so please continue to post, I will just pop up from time to time, because I like drawing monsters ^^ I hope other creatures-lovers will come to join us too :)

I did that with photoshop and textures to give it an "old painting" look.

Okay... Sorry if I sounded childish (which I probably did), I just wanted to make sure that you don't feel treated wrongly when I post so much. Your work is very nice and I don't want to make your art disappear in the depths of the thread.

And I actually didn't want to stop posting, just waiting longer periods between pictures... but if you say you need a lot of time to do your artwork and I can just go on my merry way...

Freshly from Ferelden Ink:

Image IPB

Hurlocks use tattoos to make a record of the amount of enemies they killed on the battlefield. The "intern" ranking of Hurlocks is determined by ability - and a lot of tattoos are probably the best proof of a warrior's skills you can imagine.

Here you can see a Hurlock Alpha adjusting his gauntlet, showing his tattoos on the right arm. I used different symbols to determine the enemies he has killed - every turn of the spirals are a kind of enemy, the triangles are another one and the wavy lines a third one. Whichever enemy these may be is left to your imagination.
