How many licks does it take to get to the center of a lollipop?

Probably not as many bumps as it takes for bioware to stop ignoring its customers.

This has happened to me a few times as well. I logged in and out of my account a few times and nothing happened, after 2 or 3 restarts of the game it began working again, and I believe that it showed me as logged out the time i was able to play my character. Play around and see if you can get it working with either or those solutions. ><

Found a temp (and very crappy) fix - turn everything to medium, make the graphics 1280x720 (16:9 for my screen), anti aliasing off, auto save off and cross your fingers. Got hold of a customer service rep and he was rude <_<. I was sweet and was put on hold for 30+ minutes just to be sighed at, and told someone will email me/they know its broken.

So that's where Im at guys, yall have any luck?

I think that I can practically guarantee there will be nothing more in the way of actual patching any more,  DAO has been pensioned off, whether or not a few more copies still get sold.

I havent crashed in 2 days after turning off everything in the online tab as suggested by a previous poster, but i think its just luck. I'm still saving constantly but im just waiting for it to crash again. Your "fix" is probably just a long stream of luck, and even if it does work im not playing 1280x720 on my 1680x1050 monitor ><

And exactly *WHO* do you think is here to read that complaint? Bioware is NOT "here" (outside of selected "collection" threads). This is designed as a self-help forum. Official support is through Electronic Arts, and the only further patching is related as much to the site's bad coding, if not moreso, than to the game itself.

Keep track through Bartel's comments:
http://social.biowar...8/index/7137421

Here's an update on what's currently underway...

First of all, we've started on a patch to address some of the outstanding issues people are still experiencing with authentication, in particular. There's some fairly complicated and tightly interwoven code in there that interacts on a fairly deep level both with the game and with EA systems. We're in the very early investigative stages so please don't expect a new patch to be released anytime soon but I wanted you to know that this work was now underway.

In the meantime, I'm also trying to consolidate the various threads, tips, and pointers that RaenImrahl's been gathering into a clear, central, and official Technical FAQ. A lot of these issues are ones that have only occurred in the wild and we've never been able to reproduce internally. As a result, it can be particularly challenging for us to provide clear and comprehensive solutions or workarounds but we're going to do everything we can.

To be clear, this is an issue that we're taking very seriously and are applying significant resources to. Our senior online programmer is heading up the patch effort, for example. As for myself, I'm a senior producer on the Dragon Age Operations team and have a 13-year background with BioWare, dating back to the original Baldur's Gate and lead design on Neverwinter Nights. Fernando Melo, who you've also seen present on the forums, is the head of the Dragon Age online group.

Lastly, I wanted to turn the question over to all of you. What are some simple and pragmatic things that we can do here at BioWare that will actually be of real assistance to those of you who are experiencing critical problems with our games? What would you like to see me doing to help? Please use this thread to help brainstorm and discuss some constructive solutions that could be applied.

Thanks,
Rob

Such as the above.

I don't crash often, and really feel for those of you that do. However I started crashing non-stop this morning and it was always on the exact same random encounter...and of course I was backed into a corner of the map so couldn't even take a road to try to go around the encounter.

I tried the suggestions mentioned above and turned everything off on the online tab and lowered my settings and finally made it through the encounter without a crash. I don't intend to continue playing with my settings so low and fully agree that the issue needs to be fixed. I do however thank those that posted the suggestions, I'm thrilled that I don't have to revert to a much earlier save.

Best of luck to all of you.

I feel the same way. That post didnt seem to actually say anything, bioware is looking to fix "critical problems" but even they didnt seem to know what that meant, and it made a notion that some time in the not so near future there will probably be a patch implimented... I hope for the best though :D

I was intending to make clear to someone that Bioware's people don't read every single message, and answer almost none at all.  The place is basically a User to User tech discussion area, with very minimal Bioware communication.  The DLC was certain to be screwed up, I thought, when I saw how they wanted to tied it around and around with puppet strings; so I've bought none of it.

When they released the "Ultimate" collection, very clearly the selfsame puppet strings were still in place.  I didn't buy that, so I have no expansions, no DLC.  I didn't want the hassle.

hmm, have been playing UE for well over a fortnight, masses of hours looking at all side quests and haven't had a single crash in game, although it does bomb every time when exiting the main menu. Up until today, and now it seems to be continuing apace. No hardware changes, no driver updates. Nixies. Hence game code seems to be at fault. Possibly due to some global stack issues, as crashes seem to be non-dependent on specific activity, and more related to general activity over time, either during or after high engine use. Although I seem to be much further on from when other people started experiencing these issues, some as early as Lothering !!! Poor show Bioware, but I will continue because it's still a great game...

More fool you. *We* CAN'T "fix" anything. This is a Self-Help tech discussion forum. If all you want to do is rant and rave, you are in the wrong place and you are off topic.

I just recently bought Dragon Age Origins for my PC and even on the first day I bought it, it exited out of the game randomly after maybe an hour or a little longer of playing it.  I'm not sure if it has anything to do with not having enough memory for it, since it is a bit laggy for me.

Take the complaint to your own personal, private post, with all your own pertinent trouble shootng information, just as Raen wrote before he asked to be a Moderator and was rewarded with that onerous duty, and also before Rob Bartel became interested in the DLC authorization problems:

RaenImrahl wrote...

I am all for a little hope... but the
last patch for the game was in July 2010, and the devs have said they've
moved on to DA2.  So while I can sort of appreciate the sentiment and
understand people bumping posts to make a point... I'd hate to see
anyone not at least try to troubleshoot a problem if they really want to
play the game....

If you're really serious about troubleshooting this issue, you have one of two options:

1)
Post a complete description of your problem in a new thread, along with
your hardware information, OS version information, and anything else
that might be helpful (if you're using mods, for example).

... or...

2) Go to support.ea.com, click on "Contact Us", login and file a support ticket with Electronic Arts.

EDIT:
To clarify... if you take a careful look around this specific forum,
you'll notice that no one from Bioware... or even gamers with moderator
status, for that matter, has posted here in a LONG time.  I suppose they
could still read stuff, and I'd like to think they do regularly.  But
there's no evidence of that, since no one from Bioware/EA has weighed in
on a tech issue in several months at least.  Some are on the DA2
forums... which is to be expected with the game having launched less
than a month ago and a true patch yet to be released for DA2....

Not a soul can help you unless you provide the required information. You may be able to solve your problem by checking the solutions roundup thread pinned to the top of this forum. If you cannot find a solution there or need help with something in the thread, read the first post in the "Read first" thread pinned to the top of this forum and create your own thread with the required information and your question. The game's minimum system specs are linked in the solutions thread. If your system is below the specs, it will not run well if at all.

Edited because dropped words add to confusion.

That, too, is something I can be guilty of, verbosity, when a pet theme is up for discussion. But you can always tell when I was typing too fast for my own fingers to know what they were doing, because I'll have typos such as "hte" and "nad" for the / and, or there will be an edit to a brand new comment a minute after it was posted.

This time, I went looking for something similar to what I found from 3 1/2 months ago that I inserted, but while looking, I went ahead and plugged in that link . .

The auto-correct on my phone periodically makes some very...odd corrections along with leading to some special typos that usually stand because the edit function doesn't work from my phone. Yes, I check the forum from my phone. My husband and son are on a zombie movie kick. Distractions are required. =P
