How many licks does it take to get to the center of a lollipop?
Probably not as many bumps as it takes for bioware to stop ignoring its customers.

To top it all I tried to play today in the morning and now all my Download content says Im unauthorized to play it and the rest shows that I need to buy it again?!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAA!! how can this be!
This has happened to me a few times as well. I logged in and out of my account a few times and nothing happened, after 2 or 3 restarts of the game it began working again, and I believe that it showed me as logged out the time i was able to play my character. Play around and see if you can get it working with either or those solutions. ><

I think that I can practically guarantee there will be nothing more in the way of actual patching any more, DAO has been pensioned off, whether or not a few more copies still get sold.woloif wrote...

Found a temp (and very crappy) fix - turn everything to medium, make the graphics 1280x720 (16:9 for my screen), anti aliasing off, auto save off and cross your fingers. Got hold of a customer service rep and he was rude. I was sweet and was put on hold for 30+ minutes just to be sighed at, and told someone will email me/they know its broken.

I havent crashed in 2 days after turning off everything in the online tab as suggested by a previous poster, but i think its just luck. I'm still saving constantly but im just waiting for it to crash again. Your "fix" is probably just a long stream of luck, and even if it does work im not playing 1280x720 on my 1680x1050 monitor ><

Keep track through Bartel's comments:

Here's an update on what's currently underway...
First of all, we've started on a patch to address some of the outstanding issues people are still experiencing with authentication, in particular. There's some fairly complicated and tightly interwoven code in there that interacts on a fairly deep level both with the game and with EA systems. We're in the very early investigative stages so please don't expect a new patch to be released anytime soon but I wanted you to know that this work was now underway.
In the meantime, I'm also trying to consolidate the various threads, tips, and pointers that RaenImrahl's been gathering into a clear, central, and official Technical FAQ. A lot of these issues are ones that have only occurred in the wild and we've never been able to reproduce internally. As a result, it can be particularly challenging for us to provide clear and comprehensive solutions or workarounds but we're going to do everything we can.
To be clear, this is an issue that we're taking very seriously and are applying significant resources to. Our senior online programmer is heading up the patch effort, for example. As for myself, I'm a senior producer on the Dragon Age Operations team and have a 13-year background with BioWare, dating back to the original Baldur's Gate and lead design on Neverwinter Nights. Fernando Melo, who you've also seen present on the forums, is the head of the Dragon Age online group.
Lastly, I wanted to turn the question over to all of you. What are some simple and pragmatic things that we can do here at BioWare that will actually be of real assistance to those of you who are experiencing critical problems with our games? What would you like to see me doing to help? Please use this thread to help brainstorm and discuss some constructive solutions that could be applied.
Thanks,
Rob
Such as the above.

I tried the suggestions mentioned above and turned everything off on the online tab and lowered my settings and finally made it through the encounter without a crash. I don't intend to continue playing with my settings so low and fully agree that the issue needs to be fixed. I do however thank those that posted the suggestions, I'm thrilled that I don't have to revert to a much earlier save.
Best of luck to all of you.

I feel the same way. That post didnt seem to actually say anything, bioware is looking to fix "critical problems" but even they didnt seem to know what that meant, and it made a notion that some time in the not so near future there will probably be a patch implimented... I hope for the best though

I was intending to make clear to someone that Bioware's people don't read every single message, and answer almost none at all. The place is basically a User to User tech discussion area, with very minimal Bioware communication. The DLC was certain to be screwed up, I thought, when I saw how they wanted to tied it around and around with puppet strings; so I've bought none of it.woloif wrote...

When they released the "Ultimate" collection, very clearly the selfsame puppet strings were still in place. I didn't buy that, so I have no expansions, no DLC. I didn't want the hassle.

I am all for a little hope... but the
last patch for the game was in July 2010, and the devs have said they've
moved on to DA2. So while I can sort of appreciate the sentiment and
understand people bumping posts to make a point... I'd hate to see
anyone not at least try to troubleshoot a problem if they really want to
play the game....
If you're really serious about troubleshooting this issue, you have one of two options:
1)
Post a complete description of your problem in a new thread, along with
your hardware information, OS version information, and anything else
that might be helpful (if you're using mods, for example).
... or...
2) Go to support.ea.com, click on "Contact Us", login and file a support ticket with Electronic Arts.
EDIT:
To clarify... if you take a careful look around this specific forum,
you'll notice that no one from Bioware... or even gamers with moderator
status, for that matter, has posted here in a LONG time. I suppose they
could still read stuff, and I'd like to think they do regularly. But
there's no evidence of that, since no one from Bioware/EA has weighed in
on a tech issue in several months at least. Some are on the DA2
forums... which is to be expected with the game having launched less
than a month ago and a true patch yet to be released for DA2....
