slightly different situation...

1st character played for 45hours w/o any problem...

started 2nd character, now stuck at ostigar, can't pass joining ritual cut scene. always ctd

tried reinstall, patch 1.01a, patch 1.01b, and nothing. always ctd at the same spot.

gonna try playing in a window and reduced res and as administrator to see if it improves...

another possibility was nvidia driver, upgrade to latest nvidia beta driver for flash 10.1 beta either before applying patch 1.01b or after

dell xps 420 w/ q6600@3g gtx260 vista 32

========================================================================================
edit: my issue was the nvidia beta driver, the event log showed that daorigins.exe crashed due to nvd3dxx.dll, rolling back the driver fixed the issue.

Same general problem. Game crashes at certain points when I leave ostagar to get the stuff for the joining ritual. When I first got it a couple of days ago, it was crashing during the character origins act. After running some extensive computer maintenance, it runs perfectly throughout the origin story, up through leaving ostagar, then in the forest it starts going crazy either freezing up my whole computer with the sound looping or causing it to restart...

I'm holding out hope that when a new patch comes soon that I'll actually be able to play this game.

I'm having the same issue where the game crashes when loading in Lothering. The game was running fun up until that point. All drivers are up to date. i7, X58, 6GB RAM, GTX275, WIN 7 64 bit

This is the error that comes up in the Event Viewer:

I hope this gets ironed out soon, because the game has been very good so far.

I have been playing for a while now with no issues whatsoever, however, now that I finished orzemmar my game crashes when I try to "resume" or load the most resent save. There are no errors it just crashes to desktop and I have to restart the game. I have found that if I load one of the autosaves first, I can than load the most resent save and all is well. It doesnt matter whether the most recent save is a quick save or a normal one, they both crash. All drivers up to date. I haven't changed anything on my computer between the not crashing and the crashing.

First let me say I love the game and it's awesome !  I've have a blast playing and always look forward to playing.

I've had no problems since the game launched until today (except some crash to desktop when exiting)... I play on high settings I think, it's what the game defaulted to and that hasn't been an issue.

Just about 30-45 minutes ago it crashed to the desktop in the forest outside of the werewolf ruins entrance.... I figured maybe my gpu got too hot (though that rarely happens if ever).... but then just a few minutes ago it crashed again, this time inside the werewolve ruins.

I'm going to reboot and try again in a little bit.
Thanks,
Mike

Ive played for about 10 hour and had two reandom crashes to desktop with a dragonage.exe error.

Played today for a few more hours and no crashes to dekstop, but when i went to EXIT the game, it game me a dragonage.exe error haha. Not realy bothering me as now it seems to only give me a error CTD right when i hit the EXIT button on teh main menu, after im done playing.

last night though the CTD I had was in Lothering, just like "jsmile39" mentioned above.

So in the end, THe first 7 hours where fine, the next 2 hours after taht I had two CTD's (both in Lothering) and then two hours polaying today and no CTD's, except I get an error twice now when I go to EXIT the main menu.

Awesome game that runs very smooth and well, but these few errors are kinda annoying, hope Bioware fixes em!

- Intel Quad Core
- ASUS P5Q
- Nvidia Geforce EVGA 8800 GTS 512
- 3 GB of ram
- WIndows XP
- 2nd latest Nvidia graphics drivers
- Auzen sound card

I have over 50 games and none give me this error or others in the 2 years ive had this computer
Out of the latest games ive played
- Risen ive played for 70 hours and only had one random error
- Team Fortress2 has not given me an error in 2 years
- Crysis has never given me an error in 2 years
- Left4Dead has never given me an error
- Fallout3 has never given me an error
- Killing Floor has never given me an error
- Dawn Of Discovery has never given me an error
- EMpire Toatl War has never given me an error.

As you can see no other games give me this issue, so I hope Bioware comes up with an update soon!

I cant get enough of this game! Its extremely fun and runs very well for me, but the odd CTD is kidna annoying.

the game is kinda large and you cannot expect them to find every bug for every OS/GPU etc? however imagine the launch of SWTOR an MMORPG provided they have the same issue? there will be countless more with a similar problem and more pissed off about it too.

I had the same problem until I've disabled the option for to autotake and upload screenshots.

Lothering is giving me a lot of problems. I can't go inside a building (the Chantry and the tavern), for, when I attempt to exit, the game C2Ds. Either that or it just doesn't load properly (no textures, etc.). And I can't load any of my saved games in Lothering either, as I will C2D.

My game worked fine and never crashed with 32-bit Vista. On 64-bit vista, the game crashes ALL the time. I can never seem to go for more than a few minutes without crashing. I'm stuck at a small battle where if Morrigan uses Winter's Grasp, the game will instantly crash to desktop. I've tried multiple graphics drivers old and new, and all of them had the exact same problem. I tried turning off full screen effects, but that didn't help either. I really hope there is a patch soon, otherwise, I can't really play on my new OS install, which is very disappointing.

I've been playing for about the last week 'na half with no problems (WhoHoo!) but today the game crashes every 30 mins. Is the some config. I'm missing? But don't know why this wasn't an issue before...

Every 30 mins.....takes 7 hours of playing to notice that :) but then notice its happening exactly every 30 mins.

Is anyone else getting random crashes? it just started today for me. I was playing the game last night for a good 6 hours without any problems but today i can only play for about 5-20 mins before it crashes. I know that there is a memory leak in the game but i find it hard to believe that is the problem because I had no problems last night and I changed nothing on my computer from last night. If anyone has any ideas the may help that would be most helpful.

my spec
AMD dual core 6000+ 3Ghz
4gb of ram
Geforce gtx 285
windows xp sp 3

Chances are fairly good that the author has (had ~~ I'm reviewing this a year and some later, probably a year and a half) been allowing Microsoft free reign to change whatever, whenever, through automatic updates, instead of taking full control of the system, and Microsoft changed something that shouldn't have been changed.

A few comments of similar nature, possibly because of the same misplaced trust in Microsoft, follow, and then a random "Me, too" of no usefulness to anyone, from the member Grunkzzz.

Same thing immediately following, from Chuckaltair.  Followed by LordDrow420.

A next member reported very similar circumstances to the OP, about which I've made my best WAG already.

KorrickAsh made another of the useless "Me, too" additions.

However, when Devanshyr added a comment, it was about an entirely different problem instead of what the thread is about.

wizardbain claimed to be using a nonexistent CPU he referred to as a "Pentium Quad", so we have no idea whether his problem was hardware or the game.

eSaracen was off-topic with a different problem.  We don't know from the incomplete data whether Pezninja06 had the same problem or not.  amrose2 added another of the "Me,too" variety of comment.  fozfoster did the same thing.

Why all the Me, too! people even bother writing is beyond me.  They offer no help, they have no question that anyone can answer, since they offer nothing as diagnostic data.

I've seen some random crashes, about once per 3 hrs of gametime. Always with the windows message (inaccurately translated from swedish) "DAO.EXE has f*cked itself over and has to shut down"

Some days I've had 3 of these crashes in an hour, other days no problem at all.

Hello,

I got a nvidia 8800 gts, vista 32 french. I'v just upgraded the nvidia drivers to "195.62_desktop_win7_winvista_32bit_international_whql". Now I can't play more than 3 minutes without a return to desktop. The game used to work fine before the upgrade.

I wonder if this game is really optimised for dual-core, it's always the dual-core/quad-core folk who have issues! With a single-core my game never crashed once.

So, roll back to what you had before.  What's your excuse for not doing that yet?

It is never the fault of SOFTWARE when any computer cannot maintain its temperature in the correct range.  It is always the bad cooling solution situation on the hardware.  Vents are blocked, or plugged with lint, heat sink fins are clogged with dust, fans have stopped spinning, etc etc
