random crashes

BTW it could also be a graphics driver bug. I posted something on the ATI issues thread, think it's at page 2 at present of this section. I never have crashes nowadays with 3d games after the fix.

I think you have to Alt-tab after you load the game, open the task manager, and switch the DA:O application to use only 1 core. Others will fill you in with the details.

Try my fix as a last resort, perhaps it won't work, and u may have to reinstall drivers after even but it did fix my issue - with was due to AGP and motherboard issues that ATI never bothered to fix.

It's rather interesting bc b4 the game was released, I was one of those folks going "Will my crappy single core processor work?" xD Wonder if you remember me Gorath

Hmmm? Were you upset with me? Did I seem less than encouraging? I tend to err toward the faster of animation speeds; 20 FPS won't cut it with me, and I don't recommend it to anyone else. And I tend to remember those among the answerers who are trying to help, but either disagree with me often, or end up being much more harsh than even Gorath at his grouchiest (my original Black Isle handle back in 1997 or 1998 was "Grumpy", I think).OneBadAssMother wrote...
np, it works for a lot of people and it makes the game flawless for strange reasons.

Is it because my graphics card (ati 3850 256MB) does not have enough frame buffer? I tried using lowest resolution, disabling all eye candy, forcing processor affinity to 1, 2, 3 and 4 cores, lowering my graphics card's speed... to no avail. Here are the details.
1.-----------
Faulting application daorigins.exe, version 1.2.9393.0, faulting module fmod_event.dll, version 0.4.24.1, fault address 0x000300e0.
2--------------------
Faulting application daorigins.exe, version 1.2.9393.0, faulting module daorigins.exe, version 1.2.9393.0, fault address 0x00410341.
3---------------------------
Faulting application daorigins.exe, version 1.2.9393.0, faulting module umbra.dll, version 1.2.1.0, fault address 0x00022003.
What are these failures? Do I need to debug this myself using windbg!!? I paid good money for this yet this appears to not meet the basic stability test.
What hardware configuration was this tested on?

I have an ATI 4650. After installing the latest (9.11) version of CCC I was able to play through from meeting the Lady of the Forest, all the way out of the ruins and back to the dalish village w/o a single lock up (Then I had to leave for a meeting and quite the game)
There's a ton of full motion animation, dialogue, a big battle, and transitions to get from point A to B. Before install 9.11 I was lucky to play 20 minutes before it locked up.
I'm heading in to do a longer test now, will report back!
Intel® Core2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
Memory (RAM) 5.00 GB
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 4650
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro (Runs secondary monitor 'big screen TV' usually playing music videos while in DA:O)
Gaming graphics 2431 MB Total available graphics memory
Primary hard disk 178GB Free (298GB Total)
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Model EP45-UD3P Mother Board
I just played for an hour non-stop, took some screen shots, and alt-tabbed back out to this with no lock ups.
I can't speak to everyone else's problems, but CCC 9.11 seems to have fixed my lock up problems that DID NOT exist before the 1.02 patch!

At the same time, I've have VLC Media player running on the second monitor/video card, alt-tabbed to here several times, and now I've got Picasa open editing a screen shot (of the Lady of the Forest, hubba, hubba)
No crashes and only minor load time increases.

That's great news, I'm happy that it is working for you. I have given in... to my innermost desires and bought myself ATI HD5870 just so that I can spend more time playing the game then debugging it.
I've also got a new WD 1TB HDD to install Win-7 Ultimate-64bit. Will install the game after that and see if there are any improvements.

Anyone got the problem that says "the program has stopped working and needs to close", Im getting this alot, mostly in battles and now a few times in ostagar so annoyingIve tried everything i can think of to fix it with no luck, can anyone help?
I get this problem as well. Sometimes I'll be able to play for a few hours without any issues, and sometimes the game will crash after 20-30 minutes. I'd at first though it was due to me having Firefox open in the background, as everytime it crashed that was the case, and everytime it didn't I'd had Firefox closed. However, it's now crashing without anything else running.
My specs are:
Windows Vista 7 Enterprise 64-bit
Core2Duo E8400 (3ghz)
4gb RAM
Nvidia 8800 GTS
Gigabyte EP35C-DS3R motherboard (P35 chipset)
Those are the only important details I can think to add at the moment. I'm about to update my video drivers, as I'm currently running 191.07 or something, I think. Maybe this will fix things up.
