I've got the same problem, but not sure if it's due to patch or Win 7 64 bit updates (BSOD APC_INDEX_MISMATCH when running other applications). Help! Already ran memtest86+ >7 times .... no hardware issues, and all drivers updated.

still having problems with this game. That's even after upgrading to ATI HD5870. Crashed in Windows 7-64-bit and Windows XP-32. I've been having other problems though relating to 3D games in general.

Thus far:

WinXP32

1. Sims 3 crashes. BSOD message points to atikmag.sys

2. DAO crashes.

3. Devil May cry 4 - no issues set to full.

4. Spore - no issues - set to full

5. Fifa 09 - no issues.

the game was crashing really badly for me, and other games as well, until I downgraded my nvidia driver to 190.xx. Now i can play hours of modern warfare no problem, and dragon age is running much better, but i still get a crash about every 45 mins in dragon age (as opposed to 5 mins running 195.xx). the cpu's are still maxed out, just like before, temps are fine

just hoping this info might help

Game seemed to crash at random times and would usually evolve first with a black screen but audio still working for 3-5 seconds, then complete system freeze. I happened to be housecleaning and uninstalled some old nvidia drivers no longer needed due to card change. When I started DAO the next time it said I needed to reinstall Physxcontrol which apparently I had gotten rid of along with old drivers. I reinstalled physx and it has worked fine since.

I also have an AMD dual core processor (Athlon 64 X2 6400+) and had these random crashes.

I have found forcing the program to run only on CPU 1 (and not on CPU 0) to correct the issue.

If you want to try this do the following:

Start the game and get to the main menu

Alt-Tab out to the desktop

Open the task manager (typically by right-clicking on the task bar and clicking "Start Task Manager"

Click on the "Processes" tab of the task manager

Find the process named "daorigins" and right-click it

Choose "Set Affinity" on the resulting menu

Uncheck Core 0 on the resulting dialog box

Click Ok

Close the Task Manager

Alt-Tab back into the game and play as normal

This is not a persistant setting and has to be done each time you launch the game.

I'm also having occasional crashing problems, both CTD and reboots (it's a blue screen but usually happens very quickly and immediately reboots).

This actually reminds me of when I was playing KOTOR2, and had a lot of crashes. I tried many things to resolve the crashing there, and none of them ever worked. In the end, I just played the game on my laptop, which never crashed (though of course was slower than my desktop). Even though KOTOR2 was developed by another company, it was based on the same engine that KOTOR used - which is a Bioware engine. They developed a new engine for this game, but I wouldn't be surprised if the new engine is a derivative of the old engine. It's unfortunate but I don't have a lot of confidence they will be able to fix this. But it does seem very specific to the setup you are running. Some people are able to play for long periods without any errors. It's not really a great solution, but you might try running the game with alternative hardware (eg video card) that you have lying around, if that is an option for you, or a different computer/etc.

* I also kind of regret not buying the console version of the game, reviews said the PC version was better - but not when it crashes regularly!

Mine will sometimes run for 20 minutes, never longer than 40.

Athlon 64 3700+ (2.2GHz) - single-core
3 GB RAM
GeForce 9500 GT
XP SP3, fully updated

All drivers updated, no other programs running, everything dialed down to minimum (I'm after story, not pretty.)

I don't even get a CTD; the screen goes black and my monitor goes to sleep as though I'd turned off the PC. Audio will persist for 1-5 seconds and the only thing I can do is hard-reset the system.

I'm going to try disabling the screenshots and hope that works, but this is very disheartening.

This is the same for me, it started just lastnight. I hadn't downloaded any of the updates, and the game has been running since before xmas absoloutely fine for me. Nothing changed with the computer, nor any settings in the game.  It's not even crashing in any of the places I've seen others mention, I've crashed in several areas of the Deep Roads, and can't seem to get through the fight with the forge master.doh!  :(

Yeah, I get crashes too, for some reason, if I look up, after about 20-25 seconds I crash, but when I'm looking down ontop of myself, it doesn't crash, but I'd rather NOT look down on myself all the time.

Windows 7 64-bit

RAM: 4GB

Quad core @ 2.40

NVidia 8800GTS

Here's what EA told me:

Hi,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts.

As a basic troubleshooting step first, ensure that all of the game's minimum requirements are met.

The minimum system requirements can be found on the bottom of the packaging for the game. You may also search our Technical Support database to find the system requirements.

Second, be sure you have the latest drivers available for your video and sound card.

- How to update drivers

http://help.spore.co...p?p_faqid=10711

Next, make sure any unnecessary background tasks are terminated. These tasks could interfere with the running of

the game.

- How to end your background tasks

http://help.spore.co...p?p_faqid=10700

- Adjust your desktop resolution to 1024x768 for the broadest game compatibility.

How to change your desktop resolution

http://support.ea.co...=&p_faqid=10710

- You will also need to lower a Hardware Sound Acceleration setting on your computer to "basic". To do this, follow these steps:

· Click the Start button in the bottom left hand corner of your Desktop.

· Click on "Run".

· Erase any text already in the run prompt.

· Type in: dxdiag

· Click the OK button.

· Select the sound tab at the top of the tool.

· Set the Hardware Sound Acceleration Slider to "Basic".

· Click "Exit" in the bottom right hand corner.

Thank You

-Greg

Heh, EA support might as well start off with, "Please make sure your computer is plugged in and turned on" because that's about as helpful as the rest of their generic "We can't help you but we are instructed by those with a higher pay grade to never admit that" responses. Can't blame them, I guess. If they ever admitted there was actually some fault within the game code some greedy lawyer would be after them with a class action suit. It's a crappy world we live in and people generally suck.

It's pretty clear the crashing problem originates with the 1.03 patch. Until then, all we can do is wait until hopefully the problem is addressed in the next patch. I just feel fortunate my crashing problem is nowhere near as severe as others have reported. I can generally play for hours before getting a CTD.

I have a very high-end system and I have no issues with crashes until after several hours of play.

My game started crashing when I introduced mods (simple ones, actually, as changing some morphs). Otherwise the game is quite stable. Have also problems with the meshes of the golem and spirit shapes in the fade, which gets fixed when working without the head replacement.

Ugh, game is crashing all the damn time. Right now I'm stuck in the Dead Trenches unable to progress further because it's decided to crash when my char levels. Ridiculous. If I can get past this, it'll only crash 5 minutes later. It's basically unplayable in its current state. My computer meets all the requirements, I have an updated driver and I've tried a crash fix for my type of driver. Got the game after the patch, so have nothing to compare it to.

And the crashes not withstanding - there's the numerous animation glitches. Lovely square patches of flickering blood; bodiless heads; armour patterns flickering in and out; enter into a small area like the Royal Palace in Orzammar and the entire floor has gone; a negative effect on chars - white hair, black face; the list goes on and on.

Either way, I'm severely annoyed and not sure why I'm even bothering to still play this crap.

I'm still crashing constantly - a completely broken an unplayable game for me. I have tried all the solutions suggested here on the forum and spent more hours trying to fix Awakening than actually playing it. lost all my gear in Silverite Mine too.

I've tried the dx tip

I've tried the triple core fix.

I've tried all the different resolutions and graphic settings.

All compatibility modes.

Deleting temp folders and other crazy ideas.

Updated drivers etc etc.

Nothing works and I know nothing official from Bioware ... nothing!

I'm very patient when it comes to bugs, patches, server problems, delays etc. as long as I'm aware that developers know that I have these problems ... it's quite simple. But I just sit here with a game that doesn't work and I know nothing, nothing at all.

Well, if you're an ATI card user, and you're having this problem, the apparant fix is to downgrade your catalyst driver install to 9.7. Dragonage borks on 9.8+ until further notice.

Thank goodness I am not the only one with this problem and hopefully BioWare will fix this or at least acknowledge this problem. I get crashes every 30 minutes to 2 hours.  This is getting to the point that I want my money back.  I love BioWare but this is just maddening.

I have a DxDiag report of my computer.  Not sure if I should post it on the internet though. Not a computer guy but I am suspicious of hackers. It is about 11 days old though but I don't think it would matter.

It may also appear that you have no idea what is inside of that machine for software.

Basic Hardware Specification Chart (Empty so far)

Processor Manufacturer: AMD / Intel
Processor Name / Type: Athlon 64 / Pentium / C2D / dual core / quad, etc.
Processor Speed:  ?.? Ghz (or AMD Performance Number)

Operating System / Service Pack: WindowsXP64 with SP #?, Win7, Vista ? (Oh, no!)
System RAM: ? ? GBs (MBs, if less than 1024 ? )
Video (GPU) Manufacturer: ATI / Nvidia (only those two are supported, PERIOD, so answer which of them you have)
Video Card Model: (examples) Radeon HD 5670 / Geforce GT 240

Video Card Driver Version: Catalyst ?.? / Nforce ??.??
. . (use the numbers, not the word "latest")

Video Card onboard RAM: ? ? ? MBs
Sound Card Manufacturer:
Sound Card Model:

(And this is only for the raw hardware & driver variations.  Potential software conflicts are far more likely to be game play problems, and developers cannot test for all possible program loads.)

No, I don't KNOW that those omitted items are where your trouble may be found.  Are you certain you know it is not?

To try to eliminate many software conflict issues, use msconfig to 1)deselect all startup items 2)deselect all non-microsoft services. Restart your machine.. and try the game again.

I'm sure this has been suggested before ..somewhere... as it is pc troubleshooting 101...
