SEX IS POISONING OUR YOUTH.

I bought my 11 year old son mass effect for his birthday, and then bam, he's bangin' blue aliens! They 'ought to rename the game "Blue Alien Breasts"! I am very disappointed and disgusted with this... Bioware company and their sick perversions!

What do you mean, ESRB?!

Hehe, that was good.

Personally I have no issues with it when done tastefully.  I thought ME1 handled it well.  DAO the romances were good but the "sex scenes" themselves were rather, well odd.

So long as the game takes it seriously and doesn't make it feel out of place or tawdry I'm fine with it.  In fact, pushing the edge here so to speak would be a good thing since I trust BW to do it in a good way.  People as a whole have very, weird, misgivings about sex in media.  When done right pushing that comfort zone is a good thing.

well there's the video games and then there's mass effect. when a lot of people think "video games" they think pac man or sonic the hedgehog or mario brothers with yoshi. the idea of you screwing a blue alien on the tv in one of those games is pretty sick.

mass effect though - entirely different set of rules

another anology would be... i'm taking my little girl to the amusement park for the first time. she's four. am i going to take her into the pirate's cove and let her run around in the sprinklers? or am i going to lock her into the seven circles of hell roller coaster ride that pulls more G's than an f22?

who is to blame here? dumb people of course

I have to quote this. Don't you just love it how people put the blame on everything other than themselves?

haha right? why would she buy mass effect for her son knowing he is 11 and the game is M for mature? thats just stupid, if i bought the game for my kid i need to know the consequences for doing so, even if i bought it for him just so he can enjoy the cutscenes or w/e, its still my problem, but sex is sex and if he doesnt see it in the game he will see it at school with friends or at a movie one day I am not present, this is a  new generation, some people need to understand that and move on, when actually i would sit beside him ( i dont have a son yet but if i did i would play together or watch the game together, yes i will be a lovely caring dad lol)

What blasphemy do you speak of?! Children do not go out and seek sex! SEX FINDS THEM.

As porn, gratuitous, flashy, no. As part of story or character development (which is a delicate thing to write) fine with me. Just like violence for me, for its own sake no thank you, as a part of a whole, fine with me. Either way, for me, hints and allusions are all that is needed.

No issue at all. It was incorporated into the game as optional. The story and character development are augmented by it. If you don't pursue a LI, the story doesn't suffer...well...other than an empty moment when you think Joker is spying on you. But then again that works too. Shepard alone, against the universe.

I always welcome the sex if it's done right. If it's just thrown in there for the hell of it and doesn't fit, then no.

Video games are a medium for entertainment.  Some entertainment is adult oriented.  Mass Effect fits into this and it's appropriate and even appreciated.  Some people have this misguided view that all games should be as tame as Tetris or something.  That's unrealistic and is borderline insulting for us adults in our 30somethings who enjoy this medium and want adult content be it "R" rated or whatever.

No YOU gave your kid sex. If you were gonna buy your son an M rated game at least find out why it is rated so. It says sexual themes and partial nudity. You cant blame people for putting mature content out there. adu;ts dp exist and they cant have everything be rainbows and ponies beacause some people dont pay enough attention to what they give their children.

I have said it many times before, but I always will say it at times like this.

My Avatar in most of these games is super tough usually pretty good looking and saving the world, why in the hell would he not get laid? I find it easier to get laid then any video game character to date in real life (okay probably not easier the Geralt of Rivia), and I almost never go around saving the world with chiselled abs.

I like the fact that my character can have relationships, it makes sense. I also like the visiual "pay off" as video game production values/graphical presentations have improved I think it becomes an increasingly entertaining part of the game.

I think the real question is what do we think about Video games in sex. You might get away with something kinky like Pong, or simple like Pac-man, but if you try to get your girlfriend to go along with a full on Super Mario moment with mushrooms, fire throwing, racoon tails, and spiked turtle shells...well you should marry that girl.

That, dear. Is called a night in Amsterdam.

I am suddenly interested. I happen to live in Amsterdam. Hmmm. Super Mario, hey? ;)

What do you mean?  The game companies won't do my parenting for me? And the store won't either?!?

That's almost as bad as McDonald's making my coffee hot.

I mean really; parents actually parenting?  That's some crazy talk there, that's what that is. :o

(Yes, I'm joking, lest someone actually take me seriously.  I know exactly what my 13 year old plays, reads and does on the internet.)

Aye. I reserve my less flambouyant satire for the more conservative, humorless forums.

Satire is at its sweetest whenever the person you're poking fun at hastily agrees with you without realizing what you've written. Posted Image
