Yep, no personality. Not one iota of it. I must have imagined all that dialogue, and her interjections in the plot, and her plucky enthusiasm, and her seething hatred of geth despite her generally positive outlook. No personality here.

The only sympathy I feel for the geth is that they did not ask to exist, and did not have to be created. But, just because you're a sentient toaster doesn't mean you're not a toaster. A tool that no longer serves its purpose should be discarded.

Replace toaster with any race and that sounds a lot like full blown racism lol.  Kill them for what they are, NOT for  what they've done eh?

From Mass Effect 1, I was given no reason to believe that the Geth shouldn't be wiped out. They are sentient, sure, but as far as they are portrayed in Mass Effect 1 (by the whole game, not just Tali's dialogue), they seem to be enemies of all organic life. Now, maybe Legion will change my mind about this, and if it does, good, it deepens the fiction. But to say Tali is racist because she wants to wipe out the Geth seems naive. Based on what the Geth have done to her people and the rest of the galaxy, that seems to be what they deserve. If the Geth do not want to be wiped out, I say the burden is on them to prove that they can coexist with the rest of the galaxy. They don't necessarily have to be lovy-dovy with organic races, they just shouldn't do things like send back ships that cross into the veil filled with the husks of the former crew members. Or the use of husks in general. It's one thing to kill your enemies in war. But to reanimate their dead is just wrong.

No other species asked to exist either. The main purpose of an animal could be said to be to survive and reproduce. then sentience comes along and we start doing other things. Should we be discarded too then?

No matter how many members of Group A wrong you or your people, if you judge a member who wasn't involved for the act simply because they are from Group A and hold them responsible, it's racism.



I completely disagree.



Take for example the Arachnids from Starship Troopers. A giant hive mind entity that has one thought. Survival. They survive by eliminating all other competing races. They are always hostile. You cannot talk to them because this hostility is shared between them all. Hating them would not be racist. It would be smart.

Is no different than Geth thinking it's justified to attack Organics after Organics (the Quarians) tried to kill them all, which happened first.

True, true species (the geth are not a species, they don't reproduce), didn't ask to exist, either. But, the difference there is that the geth WERE undeniably created willfully, and with a specific purpose in mind. They didn't have to exist.

Humans, for example, can't be proven to have been "created" by anything or anyone. Therefore, we don't have a pre-defined purpose. We don't need one, either. We're not tools.

many people seem to enjoy condemning Ash as a racist because she is, at least initially before you "paragonize" her, mistrustful of aliens. Of course, mistrust is not the same as racism, and given her family's past Ash (at least in my opinion) has every reason to have those feelings.

Tali, when you think about it, is quite similar. She hates the geth. REALLY hates them, well beyond the simple mistrust Ash feels. Heck, she might be borderline genocidal, if my sense of her is correct, as evidenced by the fact that In the trailer we see her drawing down on what appears to be a completely unarmed Legion. (Of course, the actual situation is unknown, but the vibe is clearly that Tali had initiated that little encounter.) And obviously its not JUST her that is this way, but the entire quarian race. And since the geth are clearly at least somewhat if not entirely sentient, I consider them to be their own race as well. Now, Tali, like Ash, obviously also has ample reason for her feelings, seeing as what the geth have done to her people. 

So what's the difference between the two of them exactly? Why do so many people love Tali but dismiss Ash? Are they both bigots (which I disagree with), or do their characters go deeper than that?
 

The geth are not a race, they are technically Quarian property.  Would you not be enraged if your cell phone grew lasers and kicked you out of your house.

Actually I do, I minored in anthropology. Race is a social construct developed from the inherent Us vs Them quality of human thinking. Race doesn't exist biologically as the difference you associate with race exist on a cline, there is no distinct boundary between one and other.

While the majority of geth work using a neural network which is comparable to a hive mind, other Geth like Legion have evolved beyond that point.

And in Starship Troopers, humans were the aggressors, the Arachnids were just defending themselves. It's a satire, the soldiers aren't being heroic, they're the invaders.

SkyNet was a defense system, an AI that gained self awareness.  Terminators are programmed machines developed by SkyNet to destroy humans.

Well sir your college lied to you. Race is a very real thing. By that I dont mean lets say. That white people and black people are any different. Im speaking of actual RACE. As in THE HUMAN RACE. Im speaking within confines of the actual GAME. The Krogan and Humanity are seperate RACES are they not? The Quarians and the Geth are seperate RACES if you consider the Geth a race. I do not.


Race is not a social construct developed from the US VS THEM mentality. Race does exist biologically. If say a underground area was discovered with a people in it. They have lived in a cave system with no light for thousands of years. These people would be a entirely different race then the human one even if they looked similiar
