Question 1: When can I do romances?
Question 2: Why is it so hard to find things on a map, I'm at the place where ship just docked after arriving at that planet
Does storyline get any more interesting because compared to ME 2 trailor the graphics on this look bad. I'm told if you don't export your data over, you are spoken to in start of the game and they ask you what you remember and your responses shape what happended in ME 1
So I'm playing Mass Effect 1

1. Regularly converse with the desired LI; usually after each main mission. (try to get Liara's mission done first if you plan to start a relationship with her)
2. Not sure I can help you there, as I've found the map to be fairly easy to understand. If you mean the Citadel though, there are "stations" that can fast-travel to locations you have already been.
3. Mass Effect 2 uses a different engine than Mass Effect 1, so the graphics will naturally look different. And as for the story? It picks up towards the end really, but it truly is one of the most satisfying endings to a game I have played in recent years; totally worth playing the game through to see.

If you bring up the big map (pressM) you can right click on it and a little flag will appear that will show up on the little one so you can get an idea of where yo want to go.
I can't help with the romance as I left Citadel early on and left most of the side quests to do at another time because if you want to get some achievement a walkthru on another site suggests this action.

Josh: JSYK, you will have to be patient if you want to "consummate" the relationship.
The end-game is where the game really shines. I think you will be glad you played if you did.
here is some advice when it comes to side quests in ME, which I think should help you out a lot.
-Keep in mind that every solar system but one has 1 visitable place. All the rest of the planets are there to be searched for goodies.
-Asteroid belts often have goodies, too. Just run your cursor in a ring along the rocks. Occasionally you will find something.
-Some nebulas like to hide a solar system in them. Make sure you explore each nebula.
-9 times out of 10 if you arrive in a system you will get a message from the admiral giving you a quest. This is almost always for the system you are in. Just go in and explore.
On the planet
-I recommend focusing on visiting any anomalies and any other sites of interest.
-Debris can usually be ignored. In my opinion, they aren't worth it. As you progress through the game you will have more money and equipment than you will know what to do with, and a lot of it is junk.
-The collecting minerals quest can be a real pain. I don't think it is necessarily in your best interests to visit every mineral spot you can. Some minerals will end up being redundant. Pick up the minerals you see along the way, and once you have cleared all the objectives for the planet, just leave.
-When you are approaching the end game, and you are "cleaning house" in your quest journal, you can decide whether you really care to get all of the minerals. A lot of people don't bother. If you do want to finish it, figure out what minerals you need, and hit up the mass effect wiki, and use the information there to find the most efficient places to check, rather than going through the entire blasted galaxy, mining minerals you don't need. If it makes a difference, finding all the minerals probably does not make a difference to your ME2 playthrough.
