OK ALL, I need some sound gaming advice!  I have not ye played ME and was wondering if I should even bother at this point and just dive into ME2?  I had planned on playing ME and than transferring my player to ME2.  But things got screwed up as do the best laid plans and that didn't happen.  So I'm faced with a dilema.  So I need some suggestions.

Here are my options:
1.  Play and complete ME and transfer to ME2.
2.  Play ME as much as possible until the 26th ad than just start ME2.
OR
3.  At this point don't bother with ME, just start ME2 on the 26th and maybe after completing, play and finish ME and than transfer to ME2 for the 2nd run through.

So, what say you.....................

PS:  I'm leaning on 3 at this point....

I say play it. You get the carry overs and if the game play is really all that better it will be hard to go back and play ME1 if you are used to the new game play.

Play ME1.

It takes 3 - 4 hours to do the main quest.

Around 7 - 9 if you do EVERYTHING of them.

Maybe a little longer if you want level 60.

You can finish the entire game including side-quests in around 20 hours. There's still a few days left, play a few hours every day.

Probably be fine with any of those 3 options.

The first one was a fun experience IMO and worth playing. Most people seemed to finish it in ~30 hours if they weren't on a speed run and didn't really care about the completionist achievement/doing every side quest they could find.

First time through I would just skip it if you're going to play it at a pace to complete it in <20 hrs. I put 67 hours in ( w/ bio breaks) on my first playthrough doing all the side quests/reading all the codex entries/exploring all dialog options.

Heh, a little? You think? :P

Difficulty matters to time, too, but OP you don't need to get to a high level to have all your decisions transfer over sooo...

I say get ME1.

I don't know, first you have to consider how bad the first game looks compared to the second. Nothing against the first game but the second game new storyline, graphics and intense combat looks really good on other hand

You can play ME1 and get more used to and familar with things. It both have good and bad things about it. You certaintly don't want to rush through the content on the first one, half the fun is watching the PC talk. Though it's all up to you

Play and complete the first game. Do whatever it takes to have a save ready to import. The experience will be all the richer.

If you can go out and get a game tomorrow and have a lot of free time this weekend to play, go for it. I couldn't figure out how to decrypt doors and lockers on my first playthrough so I skipped a lot of non-essential quests and completed the main story in 20 hours total. When a friend explained to me how the decrypting worked (major doh moment -- I thought it was based on the talents /facepalm), my second playthrough was completed in 32 hours with every possible quest done that I could find.

If you just want to know the story and what you're getting into with ME2, then go ahead and pick up the game. Your journal will tell you what the major missions are and what the side missions are so you can decide how much time you want to invest before moving on to the sequel.

Edit: I just realized my total hours played might seem a little high. I did go AFK a lot to take care of the kid and left the game running in the background.

At least get ME1 and playthrough for a transfer once. That way you can compare the default ME2 story with your transfered story and appreciate the game's multiple effects. A decent run through the majority of the game is about 15hrs for ME1. (Assuming you arent skipping all the dialog and exploring a little.)

Like I said play the first game now befire ME2. If the gameplay is uber better it makes playing the first again hard more so if you don't have going back to an old fav feel that lets you play thorogh old games.

Difficulty doesn't affect the bonuses you get in ME2 at all. So he could play on easy (Casual?) the times I posted were when I play on Insanity, so it's probably even shorter.

Running Vet, and starting Anew it only took me 8 hours to get to 45. So you can still get a pretty bonus if you play ME1 and transfer, you can also make your own decisions as to what happens in the galaxy.

Not to mention, it's not like you can't play ME1 when ME2 comes out. Don't worry about this "there's a few days left". No, there's however long you want left. It's not like there's a law somewhere that says you HAVE to finish it by Tuesday lol.

Take your time.

He probably wants to get playing ME2 as soon as possible, ie. Tuesday.

Pretty much the same as EVERYONE else here.

I'd definitely play ME1 even if I didn't care about importing a save file.  Its a great game on its own merits (and cheap at this point).   The story and characters in ME1 are spectacular and the combat is still fun, even if its not as refined as ME2's system.

If I were you I'd play through ME1 before I started up ME2 so that you can experience the story without having ME2 spoil too much for you.  But; even if you do decide to play ME2 first I'd still go back and play ME1 at some point.

I just don't see how one could really experience the cool stuff (ie: the story, characters, depth of setting) in the first game if they blow through it on their only playthrough in <20 hours.  Almost makes it not worth it to me, but hey whatever floats your boat.

I agree. Going from ME1 to ME2 and then trying to replay the first will be very hard to do.  Posted Image

You're out of your mind.  I doubt you could clear the main quest in under 12 hours even on an extreme speed playthrough.  If you want to hit level 60 it takes at least 2 full play throughs and if you're not doing a lot of sidequests it might take 3 full completions.  I've finished the game several times and completing everything on a play through took me a minimum of 40+ hours although I do sit back and enjoy the dialogue and I probably spend too much time going all OCD on my equipment and leveling.

No I'm not.

The main quest takes roughly 4 hours.

However, the 'perfect' playthrough I'm importing did take around 38 hours, to get all the achievements I wanted and level 60 and best gear. Took me 38 hours to play through the game "COMPLETELY" (completionist) twice and one rush. So 3 (maybe 4) in total. All I know is I rushed through the first, took me 4 hours to unlock level 60, and played through at least twice more to get to level 60.

If you like DAO, you'll really like ME1.  If you were coming at it without as much appreciation for RPGs then you might not appreciate ME1; but if you can appreciate a hardcore RPG like DAO, you'll love ME1.

Did watch any of the cutscenes or talk to/listen to any NPCs or read any codex entries?

Those things aren't important to everyone, but if you're looking to playthrough once in order to get a feeling for the back story and setting for ME2 it's probably necessary to some extent.
