Look I have been trying to get across the skyways bridge in this ridiculousl vehicle. I have tried zig zagging everthing, even a high dive over the edge, that was quite specky as I landed upright but still died.
And I have lost count of the times of 'critical mission failure'.
I am past the refugees.
I believe that Mako is way under armored. I have even tried hoofing it but just became cannon fodder. This is a real game breaker as I have repeatedly reloaded until I just gave up as virtually impossible. Maybe if you were better at the Mako's controlls etc , but I cannot an willnot spend more hours trying to get passed this point. I do not care if I have to input a console upgrade just would like to know correct cmd. If someone would tell me this I would be grateful and you could email me direct if such thing offends the sites ethics.
There may be other things I should be doing but if ther are I know not what. This is my first time playing this game and the first time I have played a game that requires you to use WASD to move. I am on a PC and I wonder if I can get a controller or joystick to obviate the need to use these keys and play in a more relaxed style.
I do really like the game, its got a lot more than DAO which I have played thru with every char except the dwarf commoner which I tried and got tired of it so I thought I would play ME1 until Ostager and Awakening came out and give me an idea of whether I would like to try ME2 as it has rave revues.
But I am stuck incinerated on Feros in what is no better than a soft top dune buggy and just as touchy to drive. I want armour plate thank you very much.Image IPB

Hells bells, I was trying to get too close to the enemy, discovered the zoom function, though I still think Mako has crappy armour and or shields, but i am really chuffed to have gotten past this point in the game. only taken me 6 hours

Hm, I never really had that much problem with it... it turns like a cow, that's for sure.

Also know that you can push F to repair the mako with 15 omni-gel. Having engineers with you helps, just make sure you are somewhere safe when you do it... you are paralyzed while you fix.

if you are fighting one armature, one strategy is to use the mako to knock them down, back up while they try to get up, and hit them with the cannon. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I believe the problem on Feros is when you're returning to Fai Dan's camp and there are newly spawned Geth on the Skyway. At one point they are lower than you further down the road - that means they can shoot up at you but you can't shoot down on them. It's difficult because they are so far away - armatures and rocket geth. For this I have 1 word for you: Rockets. Use the Mako's thrusters to lift up and over the enemy's arsenal, go left onto higher ground and run down the armature there. Back up and blow it away (will take a few attempts). Leave the other geth behind and continue along the skyway to get some distance, then turn around and attack the others. Don't forget to 'bunny hop' those incoming rockets. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I have been getting used to the very touchy handling and I did discover that talent points in electronics helps with repairs at least. And despite my grumble I have managed to complete the Feros mission though I never saved any colonists!. Hard to tell what is coming at you and them green ickys had biotic power I think that got me sevrral times. Gee you have to save a lot, I have never yelled and cursed so much as playing this game especially when I had or thought I had got that last neural thingy (god I am beginning to vocalize like Alastair) and got jumped. Reaction time is down a tad and I had to replay the plantlife extermination from the start. But it is done, very tough combat but unless you stay at range in the Mako ya is gone, seems like repeated attempts is de rigeur, I am going to go nuts hearing 'critical system failure Hope all them decryption skill not high enough messages were not polt critical,

The tactics I use with the Mako are always at range. It's just not built for maneuverability or close range. With everything I keep an eye on my radar, once they are there I just pop into zoom and use the heavy mac cannon to just attack them from distance whilst jumping over any rockets or Armature attacks and ignoring small arms fire.

Yeah, range is the way. It's pretty easy to dodge the blue balls of death at range too, you can either park sideways so you can roll back and forth for each volley, or you can use the jump jets. In some areas it's pretty easy to hide behind something, or just get out of the mako and take them out on foot.

Yes, thats some tough cookie to eat ^^

One option is: Killing some of the enemys(especially the normal Androids).

And then you hide the Mako, leave it and kill all by yourself. Tali, Wrex and Kaidan are good against Geth-Robots. If you are skilled with Sniper-Rifles or the Shotgun-Talent you can dish out some good damage on mid-high Range.

Always look to position yourself and move, so that the enemys cant attack you at once.

I always ram into enemies with the Mako, especially on Insanity. The bridge is a good place to ram some Geth off over the edge. Just be careful to not fall off yourself.=P Keeping it at range is the way to go for your first run through, but once you get used to it, ramming is just more fun.

Better yet, just park on top of an Armature and then get out and shoot it with your pistol.

I not up to insanity yet but the game is insane oh boy, I have never been wiped out quite so much and its like you Have to save after every little fracas or you'll just have to repeat the whole thing. I am still discovering controlls that I never knew existedlike in the options to to zoom on right click as you do in the mako with L-shift. It is a steep learning curve.

Made it to top of hill on Theros to a cut scene with a big F****** ouch.

enough for today but I made progress

I'm hurt, so very very hurt

"skill too low" should always be non-plot-critical.

Out of curiosity, what order are you doing the planets in? Was Feros first? The reason I asked is that, for me, it took like half the game on my first play through (well past the first planet I did) before I figured out how to actually play the game. (Admission: I'm not very good at video games. :-)) I probably died as many times (many) on my first playthrough at the boss fight on the planet you pick up Liara as my second playthrough, even though I was setting the difficulty to easy the first time and hardcore the second. I don't think I really had any problems with the Mako, but it's possible that something similar is happening to you, and after driving it around a bit more things will just "click" and it'll become way easier.

Yes Ramming geth is fun, but I would be careful to pick your targets that you ram, becouse sometimes, it will not end so well.

I just get into stand off range and pick the targets off and move on. I do agree that the Mako drives like a boat. Also, use the terrain to sheild you when fighting.

I always do the main planets in this order Therum - Feros - Novaria. But I do as many side missions in between as possible, so I can get some levels behind me. Novaria sucks. And Ilos - omg I can NEVER find my way on that planet. It's like a jigsaw of a maze.

Yes Feros was the first planet and now I on the second (Theros), this order was suggested by a walkthru, to get ASarian achievment I think. I did initially go to Novaria but nothing I did would let me in the hotel and so I aborted for a save where I first got Normandy and overwrote my time on Novaria.

I just set levellling up to manual as well. I was surprised when my tech Tali could not decrypt some of the things on Feros so I have taken over the talent choices.

I did try ramming on the sky bridge several times but got mowed down but no one in my party had much in electronics although I think this only helps for quicker repairs,

The graphics are fantastic and I still cannot get over my swan dive off the bridge to land on a road?,pylon below.

when I landed upright and seemingly intact I thought it was ok, but no although I wonder if the jump jets could have saved me. stupid question.

It can't be as bad as the deep roads in DAO can it? At least this map locator is quite good.

Especially since it takes no collision damage. If you run into a wall, it just goes vertical. lol

unless you're doing the planet search quests (i.e. minerals, matriarch's writings, etc): sometimes they will not appear on the world map so you must get close to them to find on your hud radar

OMG the Deep Roads!! lol
I only wish that cave-ins would show up - guess there are so many the map makers can't keep up.

I've never had a problem with the mako, though I wish it could shoot downwards and turn a little sharper

It also would've been nice if it could've gone full speed up the side of a cliff.

Well, it does have to obey some laws of physics (friction vs. Gravity). I always found it funny when I would go off cliffs, somehow one of the front wheels gets damaged (nothing else). One thing I won't miss too much in ME 2 is the constant Mako use...well, I did like some of the planets...you know, the ones that weren't endless mountains and ravines.

I actually liked Mako Combat...the key thing is that you gotta keep moving and line up your cannon shots (the machine gun is useless on anything but fodder geth). You die pretty quickly when you aren't moving...just like in real life.

I'm not good in shooter videogames. Honestly i completely suck in shooter videogame and usually hate them. BUT i love ME becouse i soooo well done. So i know what you are talking about. Mako is really bad done. Usually you get an advantage if you fire your enemy from higher ground, with mako the turret is so bad made yhat you CANNOT aim to enemeies below your level if you have the front of your veicle downhill. This is unconceivable, to fire to targets below you, you must position sideways, and in doing so you offer a much wider target to your enemy.

LOLS, maybe it's becouse i'm good in strategic games i find all the mako stuff really hilarious. In my really unskilled shooter ME experience i do this: i fire to enemies from distance (or run away from them if they are dropped from a spaceship), when i get hit i run away becouse the enemies doesn't seem to follow you, i repair and wait shields to regen, rinse and repeat.

In a real combat everythig about mako would be a total failure, but by fortune you eventually drop from it!!!!

I never had a problem with mako, it was just annoying to use but once i found scope it was ****** easy. But then i figured out you get more xp by getting out of mako and fighting so i just do that. Fights are awesome when your dodging like 5 missiles from geth when you know one can kill you in one shot.
