I GOT IT!
FemShep's elegant as a SWAN! Everybody knows swans are elegant! I mean, there's that movie, the swan princess, and she's really elegant. Furthermore, swans also have long necks. MYSTERY SOLVED.
More like she's an ugly duckling and you've gotta try REALLY REALLY hard to make her into a swan.

But so nobody thinks her breasts were fine before? I just don't think an "upgrade" war really necessary.

Edit: It's also probably because they wanted fem-shep to atleast have a little curve under all the gear. We look a little more bulky this time around, it seems.

I wonder how much the bad lighting in ME1 affected the weirdness of a female shep's looks.

If so, perhaps in ME3 she'll have a delightful duet with -add current LI here- End the game with a bang, with awesome Shepagance!
She'll need to grow a beak at some point.

Even if armour needs some room to accommodate breasts, why it's shaped so as to show them off? I could understand it in ME1, light armour was mostly a dense suit. But in ME2 it's full-on hardsuit. Why the round cups?
As I said, so that fem-shep can retain some shape in her suit. As much of a breath fresh of air that it was that the DA:O heavy armors weren't skimpy iron bikinis, I personally didn't enjoy being a big trashcan either, so even as a warrior I chose to go through the game in chainmail, or something similar.
I personally wouldn't want a repeat performance in ME2

Giraffe neck is a go.
Oh and there's a stream with FemShep playing right now. You can catch a glimpse of how she looks in armor and such if you're curious enough.
/sigh This is honestly just lazy. Someone at BW has to be able to design a decent rigging for a female model.

I'm hoping that a female equialent of that slick cerberus suit Vandershep was wearing in some of the trailers will have a high-collared neckline, too.

What about the backside? Did that change the butt too along with the chest, or what? I figured they might if they went out of their way to do that.
Yeah, FemShep definitely needed more junk in her trunk..
A few + a dozen double bacon cheeseburghers should fix her up nicely. Then it would jiggle like Miranda's
 I am sure the poster was being sarcastic (or at least I hope so). The only thing that needed fixing was the "swan neck" issue; unfortunate that they chose to "rectify" the one area that was perfectly normal.

i wish they would just remove customization. it seems half-assed and it just undermines the game more than it adds. in dragon age it's great, i love it. but in ME its neglected and i get tired of other characters always referring to me as shepard or commander every single time, it's like you don't have a first name.
and the trade-off doesn't seem worth it to me like it does in dragon age.
I'd much prefer your character constantly being referred to by their last name and have your character talk. I don't like how in DA:O you're character never speaks. It's impossible to get any character to say your characters first name without sounding like Microsoft Sam.
Anyway. It does appear they stuck with the same model, long neck and all. Bummer.

This is a dealbreaker, absolutely.
I wouldn't go as far as to never play as a female Shepard, but it's definitely annoying and can even be distracting during conservation with NPC's.
