You need to work out your tactics son, but since your spending your time ****ing on a forum about how the AI is not laying down for you and making your game easy, its kind of hard to learn to play right?
Why not come on the board and ask nicely about some tactics to help you out, instead of ****ing that its too hard?

Do you want some cheese with that whine? I fired this game up and got my ass HANDED to me. In fact, it happened several times and I started to get angry. That is, until I realized that I wasn't playing WoW or Fable, or any other MODERN RPG. This is how RPGs used to be made, KID.
Once I stood back and realized I needed to start thinking and stop zerging, things moved heavily in my favor, and I'm rocking a Rogue. So yeah, I agree with the other posters: L2P noob, or quit crying and go back to WoW.

And replies that are a bunch of MMO style jerks.
The flash game had better combat. At least melee didn't suck.
In this game, by the time you close the distance as melee you are utterly raped, CCed, snared, stunnned, etc. Even with Indomitable going. Its totally BS. And if you run indomitable, threaten, etc. good bye stamina.
Or you can play a mage and just enjoy ez-mode.
There's a serious problem when range is 100 times better than melee.
RPG where damn wizards dominate everyoen else? Hogwash!
Yeah apparantly the ability to wield a sword (probably 10% of population can do that effectively) should pwn the ability to summon freaking earthquakes and fireballs and summon elementals and force fields and such. (0% of this world can do that maybe 1% in the fantasy world?)

I just had to state that as a former "elite/hardcore/whatever ya want to call it" MMO player, I must say that Dragon Age plays nothing like an MMO at all and I am enjoying it the way it is. Thank you Bioware.
I dunno about you but most of my play time on dragon age consisted of going LF1M Healer in lothering. And then Alistair got fed up and just left. So i had no tank left. All dog said was Kekekeke. I think he's korean.

But quite simply put, most of your problems should go away by using those tactics, or if you prefer, put completely idle tactics so you'll have to manage everything by yourself. This requires a lot of pausing and time if you really want to survive though.

1, Preset Tactics tend to override manually-given commands the second you switch to another character (often have had to go into the Tactics page for all 4 party members and disable them outright for the more "special" encounters.) There should be a global switch to toggle all Tactics on and off, a la the "Party AI" button in all the Infinity Engine games.
2, "Scripted" encounters that open with a dialog, make your entire party bunch up in one place before the battle begins, so it's useless to bother trying to separately position individual members, maybe to quickly take out enemy mages or traps etc.

In regards to it "feeling like an MMO": Only in regards to tanks. Becoming the most threatening character on the battlefield through the single use of a "taunt" is an incredibly disappointing thing to see in *any* game.

Such a shame to see the childish 'L2P' and 'noob' comments which infest the WoW forums. If you're going to criticise someone at least do it in a way that doesn't make yourself look like an immature jackass.
This is what crossed my mind as I read through this thread too.

Wow. Bioware has gone MMO. Melee characters suck and there is tons of annoying as hell CC. This feels like a bad modern MMO.
By the time you run to a group of bad guys, they have scattered like cockroaches (ruining any melee AoEs) and have dropped 12 crowd control powers on you (snare, stun, etc.).
WTF?
Ironically enough in WoW people are complaining Melee are too strong.
Different perspective is different.
