Uh, what?

Solid Snake's hair in MGS was just a brown rectangular prism that sat on top of his head. Don't be obtuse. It might also help to stop being an idiot.

lol, at this point this game isn't about customization really. They've kind of ditched that and are just concentrating on cinematic feel and character development, which I like. More options is always good, but really I've been waiting so long for ME2 now I'd rather just deal with the bland customization in lieu of great gameplay and plot.

The dev team has been bragging for years about how much they were listening to fan feedback in the development of this game.

Apparently a large bulk of the feedback they got was "We demand less customization, and more micromanaging ammo and fuel and crap like that!"

Most games that have amazing flowing hair for their characters are games that you can't customise your own appearance, the hairs are on fixed models and are really only moveable because it's fitted for THAT HEAD MODEL. If Bioware focused on making detailed, flowing hair, you would not be seeing Mass Effect 2 this early. They'd have to manipulate each hair to fit hundreds of different head shapes and try to reduce as much clipping to that, and then you'd probably be complaining about the horrible bone assignments and clipping issues of the hair.

Except you don't need to "fit it" to hundreds of head models, the hair is staticly placed on the model now, theres no moving or resizing at all, the body-head model never changes, only the face changes shapes with customization(talking ME1&2 here)

Like I said, I don't even care about flowing hair like Ivy had above, I just wish they'd texture it better. *shrugs* I'm still so pumped about the game that really nothing at this point minus a MAJOR plot letdown is going to diminish my high.

Oh, I know, that was just an over-exagerration on my part! xD It's not so much as...'fitting', but making sure the moveable hair doesn't look too retarded, as, for example, they had a long hairstyle that had a strand of hair over the face, slide that face just a bit and that hair will stab the character in the eye (and we all know someone will hardcore rage over it). At least with their current static hairstyles, the clipping isn't too terrible.

I do agree that a better texture would be nice as I actually liked a lot of the hairstyles in ME, just wish they had better textures, but I hardly pay attention anymore. xD Maybe for the pc it'll be somewhat modable, though doubtful, but already seeing different hairs for DA:O, so maybe. (Not like it really matters for me, getting the console version)

LOL I know right!? Because having a nice looking player character totally detracts from the cinematic experience. :P

Jeeze I wanna know who these boneheads are making these complaints and go kneecap them.

That said, I don't think it was that hard to make a decent looking character in the first one, but one of these days Bioware really needs to invest some serious time into their character creator. *Nods*

I'm not asking for much, and I probably went a bit overboard with the hyperbole in my OP.

However the hairstyles, as well as all the facial hair, seriously look they were painted on at the last minute. This was a major problem in the original Mass Effect. Somehow, the developers believed that Shepherd didn't look at all awkward or outright dumb (which he does), and decided not to change anything at all! I believe that almost certainly demonstrates the obvious laziness in the shoddy developing team's work ethic.

At the very least, I don't think it'd be appropriate to let BioWare slide for such a glaring flaw. Plus, consider how the default Shepherd's hairstyle trumps the customized Shepherd's buzz-cut. How does that make any sense whatsoever?

I meant that in terms of consistency.

Solid Snake's hair matched the graphics of the game.

Every single one of Commander Shepherd's hairstyle choices looks like it was developed for a Lego Star Wars game. That is, they don't match-up with how realistic everything else looks by comparison.

Less customization? You mean like how now you can pick and choose the physical components of your armor, adjust its color, the materials its made of, and apply decals and camo?

As for micromanaging, well, I know I asked for more of that, yes.

No no it's okay Asari, Krogan, Salarians, and Hanar are SUPPOSED to look like that.

Also my main Shepard is bald. With a goatee.

It's really just kind of embarrassing when the best hairstyle option in the game is "Screw it, I'll just make him bald."

or.... OR open the freaking code up just a smidgen so I can make hairstyles for the game myself and texture them properly. ME1's code was locked up tighter than Dick Cheney during a Feminist rally...

I actually like the combed back male hairstyle, myself. I just wish it were a bit longer, so it'd look more like my own.

You can't do any of that for your squad. They have 1 outfit and 1 recolor of the same outfit.

HOLD ON! We are missing the point.

Silent friend said the character creator is the exact same as ME1 with no new options. Where are you getting this information, because I heard on other forums the the creator is improved.

They're might be some additional facial slider options (I doubt it) But no new hairstyles, the pic above shows you that.

We're getting different reports. A few people have said the hair textures, and just textures in general are done much better. I think really this was all kind've an exageration, because they're not 100% better, you know?

This just made my crappy night insanely awesome.

I would have bought ME for the pc, but noticed a lack of mods so I just meh'd it. If they open up the code abit and you make some rad as hell textures, I'm getting it for pc...for sure.

Damn, someone already made the point I was going to. Your a military officer who needs to put a helmet on. So you can't have big hairstyles. Well you could...but your hair would be all smooshed...and instead of seeing red veins when your near death you'd have hair in your eyes the whole game. Not fun.

But I feel ya, I wish there were more cuts. The most hair they give you is either Kaidan's "Fonz" haircut or the Cesar one. I want a mullet dammit!

And? Those guys already look cool. I mean, I wish I could customize them, sure, but it's just not in the cards. My main problem with ME1 was that it wasn't all that easy to make Shepard look good. Everybody else looked great in almost any high-end armor, but Colossus heavy armor gives DudeSoldierShep a bright red baboon ass, for instance. The game never wants to give me my favorite armor, Mercenary Heavy VII-X, either.

Those are all the Hair and Facial Structure models that I saw in the 30 min clip on youtube.

There seemed to be more skin tones (he goes through them too fast to get screenshots), but there were only 3 complexions again (but I didn't think anyone picked anything beyond the first one so I didn't include them).  Beyond that the poster didn't explore the character creator.

Hehe, I'm still holding out hope after DA:O's toolset came out, I never got into it enough to mod anything as I found the game a bit dull, but if they even open ME2's coding up just a little, I'll be all over modding this game like... well... well  like crackheads on crack...

Probably the same reason there is no voice actor for your character in DAO, it would take too much programming time.

The problem is mainly with longer hairstyles, which are often very difficult to animate. They could probably do a lot with short hair, though, but then all the femsheps would scream even louder about being he redhead step shep.
