Why does BioWare continually neglect hairstyles?

I dont know why but all the RPG games that have character customization have had horrible hair lately, worse for female then male character's but neither have been good.
It always gets blamed on clipping issues and not being able to make the hair move or bounce, but I hardly think that is an excuse for hair that simply looks horrible, there are short hair styles that do not make people vomit at the thought of having to wear it. The hair movement is also over rated, they will be forgiven if it does not move, excessive clipping would be the only real complaint's and many would still be happy to have it clip.

"Last time I checked this game was an RPG not Barbie Fashion Model."
"our character is a Military Officer not a Fashion Model."
Such clever, witty responses! Go tell your mothers.

This... is disheartening news for me, if it's the same for femshep - it will look completely stupid if my femshep has to wear the same stupid plastichair standing next to Miranda :/
*sigh* almost seems like the character generator is made as an afterthought...
Is it just me that really values character creators in RPGS? I mean, I can spend hours and hours just making characters if the character creator is good.
If what the OP posted is true - I'll be sorely disappointed, and what is the reason of making you able to change your Shep from the first game, if there's nothing new?
I'm with you, I can spend literally hours tweeking stuff in a char creator, City of Heros, Aion (For all 10 days I played it) etc, and ya I was really hoping it was improved, but I can't complain as APB is coming out soon and, well, there has never been nor will there ever be a character creator as robust and just pure WIN as its'
Here's a clip to what is the ultimate character creator ever made *Warning* - May cause depression concerning ME's Char creator... Also may cause certain individuals to pass out from sheer amazement www.youtube.com/watch

Yes, any excuse we can find to brown nose it I see. <_<
This does tend to be one area BW skimps in. DA:O was the same actually, the default hairstyles were, acceptable, but some of the user made stuff I've seen is leagues better. Unfortunately without any mod'ing tools for ME we are kinda stuck with what they give us.

I was actually really hoping I could do more with how Shepard look like in this sequel....
Hearing that nothing much has changed is really depressing.... (this was after APB

And if you just take maybe, say, five minutes to play with the character creator, you can create an absolutely gorgeous shepard. Besides, the hair really isn't that bad.

Its obvious that the sliders in the first 6 portraits are modifying facial details such as eye height, and not hair styles. So as a sampler, its entirely possible and likely there are more options.lokiarchetype wrote...

Here's a bigger version. I included the bar underneath to confirm that they're different.

This is perhaps the most impressive video game display I have ever seen. Amazing.

Im guessing no one here had been in the military before. They only allow you to have certain hairstyles that fit within regulation and Im guessing shephard is abiding from those same rules.
Re-read the forum its not so much style its how its modelled - sub par compared to the rest of the game, its PLASTIC HAIR.... the only reason for concern is because the rest of the game is nearly perfect so it stands out so much more my shep is black and short hair rocks on him even though id like to give him cornrows but the female hair suxs the most, for all the changes though hair would have been on the bottom of the to do list for improvements on ME1

Omg, it's full of run-ons.

Yeah the hair is a bit meh, but there's so much good in this game.
I thought that they should have had the Basic Shep features available to the customs. Theyre not! I would have loved to have just adjusted a few thing on base Shep and run with it but it wasnt possible.
Base Sheps hair was cool, but if you wanted a custom Shep to have his hair then the closest option was the short, african hairdo.

Which is funny, since male Shepard's default face is that of a fashion model.

- Each hairstyle still looks like a plastic toupee that was glued on with Elmer's.
The BioWare developers are downright pitiful - their lack of good hairstyle
variety and texture for Shepherd is laughable when one considers that a fighting game like UFC Undisputed 2009 has a vast variety of hairstyles choices to select from
(39 - ALL short hair, too, that would completely fit with the character
of Shepherd!), along with [relatively] realistic textures that look FANTASTIC!
The hairstyles in Mass Effect are actually A STEP BACK FROM PS1 GAMES! Solid Snake had a better hair-do than Commander Shepherd, FFS! Maybe if the developers would put the Cheeto's down once in awhile, and
start giving a damn about hairstyles (arguably a make-or-break feature), rather than out of nothing more than sheer laziness, provide the same old crap, I wouldn't have to waste my time mentioning it on the forums. Not to mention, the hairstyles (or lack thereof) detract from the
visual appeal of in-game cinematics when your character is sporting Astro-Turf
textured hair that appears as if it were styled using super-glue.
- The character creator is the same, exact thing from ME1! New options? No.
More of the same old crap? Yes!!!
By comparison to UFC Undisputed 2009, who's creators absolutely blew Bioware's ******-poor, lazy hoss of a developing team away, Mass Effect 2 character customization looks fitting for an Xbox Original game.
Why the heck are you so worked about your hair-do? I have my helmet on in-game 99.99% of the time anyways. While it would be nice, I dont think its that necessary. Maybe it could be added in some future DLC, but nothing as grand as being its own update.
