Also, I would never put long/ponytail hair on commander shepard b/c IMO it looks retarded on a Male in game and IRL. But, nevertheless, it should be an option for those who want it.
Why does BioWare continually neglect hairstyles?

Wear a helmet. Thats how I solve that problem
Or make your shep bald.
You can't truly give Shephard a shaved head though. You either have to match the hair to his skin tone or give him razor stuble. Yet you see other characters in ME1 and ME2 with completely shaved heads. You also see different beard styles, ie Joker's, that you can't use.
I agree with the OP 100%. I was expecting a much better face maker with this game. There isn't anything new added to it. They really should've looked at the face creator for Fallout 3. That gave you way, WAY more options and freedom when making your character.

Make-or-Break is definatly an exageration as none of it detracts from the experience its more things that would be nice to have

Not so.... I've started over multiple times b/c the hairstyle ends up bugging the hell out of me when shepard moves a certain way or w/e. If I had a hairstyle I wanted, it wouldn't take me forever just to START the game.

Not to mention the 8 billion hours of unskippable cinematics as well as a 50% chance for the customization screen to freeze (for me).

While you can get some cool looking characters every once in awhile, I see five hundred good looking DA:O characters for every original and decent ME character.

Why we didn't get the choice of all NPC hair is beyond me. I mean, It's ALREADY IN THE GAME! (aka kelly's hairstyle and that one with the hair falling in the female's face) Why not let us use it?....b/c FemShep definitely needs some other choices.
I agree, Wtf?
Are they there just to taunt us? Did the programes belive we didnt want them or what?

- Each hairstyle still looks like a plastic toupee that was glued on with Elmer's.
The BioWare developers are downright pitiful - their lack of good hairstyle
variety and texture for Shepherd is laughable when one considers that a fighting game like UFC Undisputed 2009 has a vast variety of hairstyles choices to select from
(39 - ALL short hair, too, that would completely fit with the character
of Shepherd!), along with [relatively] realistic textures that look FANTASTIC!
The hairstyles in Mass Effect are actually A STEP BACK FROM PS1 GAMES! Solid Snake had a better hair-do than Commander Shepherd, FFS! Maybe if the developers would put the Cheeto's down once in awhile, and
start giving a damn about hairstyles (arguably a make-or-break feature), rather than out of nothing more than sheer laziness, provide the same old crap, I wouldn't have to waste my time mentioning it on the forums. Not to mention, the hairstyles (or lack thereof) detract from the
visual appeal of in-game cinematics when your character is sporting Astro-Turf
textured hair that appears as if it were styled using super-glue.
- The character creator is the same, exact thing from ME1! New options? No.
More of the same old crap? Yes!!!
By comparison to UFC Undisputed 2009, who's creators absolutely blew Bioware's ******-poor, lazy hoss of a developing team away, Mass Effect 2 character customization looks fitting for an Xbox Original game.
DON'T YOU DARE MOCK THE MULLET!!

Not letting you choose Kelly's hair is ridiculous, and also you can't choose a scar in the 2nd game unless you import a ME1 char with an existing scar? I know it goes away cuz of surgery but once you buy the MedBay upgrade I wanted a sweet scar. Anyways Mark Vanderloo will do.

gaulish, no kidding! exotic!
and, about the hair thing: in all seriousness, I play only games that allow me to customize my guy, i don't like to be told who my hero is and what he/she's like. so, even in ME2 my favorite part of the entire game is making the face. having said that, it can be an enormously frustrating experience, because you can choose only the sort of gross characteristics (here's your nose, here are your eyes), while tweaking options (eye size, nose width) are close to absent. Guitar Hero and Dragon Age easily make the ME2 generator seem ..well, old. outdated. the few hair options do much to reinforce that notion!
if the generator somehow had to be kept the same to allow importing of theME1 shepard, then i would love dev confirmation of that fact. and maybe some encouragin words about more work being done on the generator. i would hate ME3 to suffer from the same deficiency!
... and how about a size and height slider???

You know... Strike the fear into mass effect cores of the Reapers with your mighty BEARD! Feel the great biotic wind in your hair!
I don't care if it will look 'plastic' or not. Technical issues are hard to overcome, but new hairstyles are rather easy to make.
