Maybe the devs just don't care abt hair themselves. They just go get a completely bland run of the mill haircut every month.

Nah. Dr. Greg has long hair. He wouldn't allow such barbaric rituals in his company.

You are wrong... others were saying it in more obtuse fashion;  And, so I figured I might help in clearing any confusion up.

I hear you OP. Bad hairstyles.

Facial customization is also poor. I mean soem of the options they give you would make shephard look like a freakish charicature.

Fortunately, the default for both sexes isn't bad. I personally don't stray far from that.

I gave up in ME 1 trying to make a MaleShepard who didn't look like imbred roadkill, and I'm usually pretty patient with customization. I ended up using the default male face and using a custom female face. Luckily most of the female characters don't look as bizarre and some can look pretty good.

My femshep is pretty adorable, unfortunately the face doesn't match the voice. But yea, if after they finish the Mass Effect series and have some kind of open world game in the universe (assuming it's still there :P) they'll quit 'holding themselves back' on some decent character design choices.

It may not be a big deal to some people, but when I decide on a face and have to watch all the cutscenes with her talking I start getting annoyed by the little things: like the lazy eye my femshep had in Mass Effect 1, or the fact the few non bushy eyebrows were so hardly there you couldn't tell she had eyebrows at all.

I hope so, if we aren't getting any more character options during this series I hope down the road any spinoff would greatly improve on this aspect.

The lack of new hairstyles was a letdown, especially after having seen Kelly's, Nef's, etc... on my first playthrough with my Vanderloo Shepard.

Silly me, I'd assumed Bioware wouldn't have created new hairstyles for NPC-only use. Image IPB

I really hope we get something down the road via DLC, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm not sure how such DLC would work, as I can't imagine it being an add-on to the Character Creator. Will Shepard have to visit a hairstylist/barbershop?

The Kasumi DLC has been touted as one that will make FemSheps happy. I would love it if this meant hairstyles, but I'm sure it will mean a new dress. That's okay, but Shepard spends a lot more time in armor than in casual attire.

I'm surprised so many people have mocked the idea that this is a valid complaint. In the eyes of many gamers, myself included, RPGs are all about customization. Having just a few more options, such as Kelly's and Nef's hairstyles, would improve the game for some. Does the crappy hair ruin the game? Of course not. Yet, it's telling that the majority of the most popular custom Shepards on the web use the NPC hairstyles unlocked via mods. Bioware missed the boat when they failed to make these standard options.

Longer hair can be a problem because of engine. Still there's a lot of other possibilities.

Damn. I don't want some kind of weird hairdos from outer space. I just hardly see a difference between most of ME haircuts.
If my Shep can spend TONS of platinum to fix his pretty face, I bet he can also afford a good hairdresser and a shampoo.
(Ponytail for male Shep FTW!)

Why does BioWare continually neglect hairstyles? Because the games are being developed for the XBOX which is 5 year old technology. We won't see anything for the new Fermi Tesselation feature any time in the near future. The XBOX is ruining computer gaming!

Piracy is ruining the computer gaming industry sir, not the xbox.

Plus, theres the elitisim some pc gamers tend to have. Makes me avoid pc gaming more often then not.

Good Lord! I suppose reading is not essential these days. I weep for our future if this is a representation of our collective intellect. Do you even know what GPU is in your XBOX? The question of the OP was centered upon the lack of texture quality in the Hairstyles of the games. Answer: The XBOX is OLD Tech. Use the Google please and find yourself one of the hundreds of videos out now covering the new Tessellation feature of the new Nvidia Fermi chips. The manner of handling hair is one of the Demos Nvidia has been showing off at PAX. It shows incredible ignorance on your part, sir, to sling an Elitism slur when I was simply pointing out a technology fact.

While it isn't as big of a deal as the OP makes it out to be it, it would be nice to have hair (especially on females) that didn't look like you were wearing a plastic wig on your head.

For males, only the default male shepard hairstyle looks good since it's just a closely shaved haircut.

For females, there's onyl 1 hairstyle I like and it isn't selectable at character creation .. have to use a save game editor to activate it (this hairstyle is only used by a VI in the game... female human characters don't seem to have it anywhere in game).

Here's 2 pics of my Shepard with the only decent hair style I like:

I hope there is way more options to customize your characters appearance in ME3, better hair styles with detail like Jacob's faded cut, miranda's locks etc, beard styles, sideburns, tattoos skin tones and complexions. how hard would it be to put a color tab to make your own custom iris, hair, makeup color etc.

Necro'd thread?

I don't mind the short spiky shepard hair for a male shepard, but the rest don't look great. Femshep has some better hair styles, but most are still not great, and I agree the npc-exclusive hairstyles suck, especially for a 360 gamer like me, where modding is significantly harder.

- Each hairstyle still looks like a plastic toupee that was glued on with Elmer's.

The BioWare developers are downright pitiful - their lack of good hairstyle
variety and texture for Shepherd is laughable when one considers that a fighting game like UFC Undisputed 2009 has a vast variety of hairstyles choices to select from
(39 - ALL short hair, too, that would completely fit with the character
of Shepherd!), along with [relatively] realistic textures that look FANTASTIC!

The hairstyles in Mass Effect are actually A STEP BACK FROM PS1 GAMES! Solid Snake had a better hair-do than Commander Shepherd, FFS! Maybe if the developers would put the Cheeto's down once in awhile, and
start giving a damn about hairstyles
(arguably a make-or-break feature), rather than out of nothing more than sheer laziness, provide the same old crap, I wouldn't have to waste my time mentioning it on the forums. Not to mention, the hairstyles (or lack thereof) detract from the
visual appeal of in-game cinematics when your character is sporting Astro-Turf
textured hair that appears as if it were styled using super-glue.

- The character creator is the same, exact thing from ME1! New options? No.

More of the same old crap? Yes!!!

By comparison to UFC Undisputed 2009, who's creators absolutely blew Bioware's ******-poor, lazy hoss of a developing team away, Mass Effect 2 character customization looks fitting for an Xbox Original game.

The characters are militars not some anime cheap freako.

I would like my characters to have... like... swishy hair that blows in the wind but then I realise it's not a big deal... although the hair does look like its glued together which is kinda ikky ^^.
