wanna try and do a quick run through before me2 hits, just so i can get a completion save on my pc instead of 360.
some problems though. some minute by annoying still.
1) the config tool crashes with a visual c++ runtime error. doesnt matter if its set to administrator or vista/xp compatibility, it will still crash. so i can set any options for resolution etc.
2) the ingame resolution options dont stick. so setting 1920x1200 in the game requires setting it everytime i start the game.
3) the audio is fubar. conversations are so quiet as to be silent, sound effects are louder in conversations than the actual voices. missing sound effects in battles etc. etc. etc.
4) antialiasing doesnt work. even forcing it using ati tray tools doesnt work.
5) the state of this game makes me quite worried for me2. i hope it doesnt have any of these problems and i guess ill have to wait for an ign review to see if there are any.

Well....for number 2, I think this is true for most cases. I couldn't change the res in game either. It would only let me change in the ratio I was already in. For example, I couldn't go from 16:10 to a 16:9 resolution. Just wouldn't stick although its listed and selectable. It only worked after I set it correctly through the config tool.
As for why the config tool is crashing, it could be due to missing visual c++ library files. You could try reinstalling those via microsoft's site to see if that remedies it.

ive solved a couple problems...
config tool crashing and resolutions not sticking was because all the config files in my documents/bioware/mass effect/.... were set to read-only for some reason.
now i just need to know how to get AA working, the sound problems fixed and know if the same shoddy developers are also doing the me2 pc version?

Don't blame the great developers of the ME saga for your own personal failures. It is a horrible American trait to blame everyone but themselves. This is a problem with your computer most likely, not the game.
Update your audio/video drivers, reinstall the game. It is likely that your card is not supported, but see if re-install works anyway.

1. C++ run-time error - Solution: remove all the C++ RTE's and install the C++ 2005 SP1 released in July of 2009. go to download.microsoft.com
2. Setting Resolution. If all else fails, hard set the resolution in the ME1 .ini files. See the ME1 tweaking guide at www.tweakguides.com
3. Yeah, this game foolishly used Creative's OpenAL. This is not being used for ME2.
4. ATI driver or driver config problem. How is this game related?
5. I have had very few problems on running ME1 on my 2 PCs, Win7x64 and Vistax64 even the 1.00 version ran fairly well. I have had no problems with the 1.02 patch So I would agree with KBGeller that you should be more concerned with the state of your PC rather than the game.
