Hey everyone - I've been using mainly one guide for this - but I wanted to get opinons right from the source.

If I wanted to get a character ready for ME2 - at full lvl cap, specialization (Commando / Shock Trooper) - and bonus specialization (e.g. Electronics) - how many playthroughs do I need to do?

I'm not worried about achievements - but my current tactic was this:

- First level
- Citadel (skip all assignments)
- Liara
- Citadel (all assignments)
- All main story planets, until just before citadel redux
- All remaining assignments (unlock specialization)
- Remaining story (unlock level cap)

--> and I was going to do this at least twice, if not three times.

Am I on the right track?

Someone posted somewhere you could reach max level cap (60) in one playthrough. Of course there's the obligatory first playthrough to unlock level 60, but you could start a new level 1 after that, and by doing literally everything you would still be able to reach level 60.

Just don't forget that killing enemies outside of the mako gives you a lot of extra xp. Damage them to near death, get out of mako, finish them off in person.

If you already have the level limit unlocked then it's possible to reach lvl 60 with one playthrough... not easy but possible. If not it shouldn't take more then two playthroughs. I would do Eden Prime, then Citidel all mission, Go after Liara, return to citidel (do missions), then do about five UNC assignments, go to Feros and do everything, return to Citidel do what you can, then go Bring Down the Sky, more UNC assignments, Noveria, Citidel, UNC, Virmire, Citidel, finish up UNC, and finally Ilos

Yeah, that's a lie. There is no way you can close the gap between 58 and 60 without a very large infinite spawn and I don't believe there is one in ME, otherwise everybody would be exploiting it.

So we're actually talking between 2-3 playthroughs.

1 to unlock the level cap

1 to reach the level cap

1 if I don't reach the level cap on the second run.

If you reach lvl 50 on your fist playthrough (or really close) then you should get to lvl 60 on your second playthrough easily unless you start a new character... then yes it may take three playthroughs.

do you get something for being 60 when you import it?

You get an extra bonus to use on skills when you start your game.  I'm not entirely sure what that entails but it probably means you'll start the game at a higher level then 1

Starting a new game + at lvl 50 and doing everything there is will bring you to 59. You might be able to close the gap to 60 by killing everything there is to kill with your gun (no vehicle kills).

Some people are mentioning - starting a whole new character once you unlock the level cap.

Are there benefits in doing so - instead of using your old character?

I thought when transfering the savegames to ME2 - only the last playthrough counts (story choices, etc.)

You can reach lvl 60 with one playthrough but you have to go completely renegade by choosing the options that let you kill the most... like all the people in Feros and all the people at Father Kyle's camp and killing the biotics on the ship, and so forth.  It probably is impossible to reach lvl 60 if your paragon however.

No you can import any saved character... some ppl have like six or more characters ready to import... It isn't just your last character and the character you transfer over won't be a character your stuck with.  The quickest route to lvl sixty though is to stick with one and max him/her out first and then decide whether or not to make another.  Me personally i have four characters waiting.

Jep, as a paragon it's not possible to go to level 60 in one Playthrough.

but why so many characters?

I don't get it. ME2 will be played through one commander shepard - and one save game.
Yes you can load any savegame you like - but not all at the same time.

In the end it will still only matter what you did with the character (story choices you made in ME1) - with ONE character (the one you're playing).

It's true you can only play one character at a time.  It is probably also true you'll have one character you favor over the rest.  However, I am sure you would want to replay ME2 and that is where the other characters come in.  Do you really want to replay the game the same way each time with one character and class?  I believe at the very least you need two characters:  one who is renegade and one who is paragon, so that you can see all the nuances and consequances of the game.  The replays are where the other characters come in so that game still has a level of freshness to it.

ok that makes sense :-) hehe.

Alright - so to sum up - I'm on the right track - I'm doing all the assignments, all the surveys of planets, all the missions....so at the end I'll have 60 unlocked - so I'll have to try and get there on my next playthroughs.

Thanks guys!

One last question - unlocking an extra skill for your character (like electronics) - you have to use 75 times overcharge or something....I can't remember.

What's your strategy on that? Always have a biotic in your team and manually use the skill on every enemy encounter?

If your talking about unlocking a skill so you can add it to a character later then the best thing to do is isolate that skill or two and use them as much as possible there are more then enough fights so you probably don't have to use it everytime but hey it couldn't hurt

I'm pretty sure it only counts if the player uses the power... So you would have to be a biotic to unlock the Lift power, for example.

I'm not even sure if that stuff carries over though.

that's what I was thinking too - but I have a guide here that says you can unlock electronics with a soldier class (the class im playing).

Don't think that is possible since the soldier has no electronics/decryption skill unless you've already unlocked it and gave it to him. The soldier can unlock Assault rifles, shotguns, and sniper rifles if you get enough kills with each gun to qualify. It can also unlock First Aid. I think that's all it can unlock it's been a while since i played my soldier character.

On the ME Wiki it says - you can learn Overload as a bonus talent (Overload is required to unlock electronics)
