Hey! If you have been following the recent post "Need two sword models made...", I've decided to continue that conversation here.

Let's start by giving you access to my DropBox files into which I will be putting these items:

7z version: https://www.dropbox....Weapon-a-day.7z

*As of 4/17/2014 the address for these files has changed again

*Beware, there is a baseitems.2da file in each of those files. If you have a baseitems.2da you are currently working on in your override folder, please make a backup first. The 2da allows you to see the Maul items in the updated module.

*As of 4/11/14, the package also contains a placeables.2da which allows placement of the MaxScript-created trees.

Also, here is an imgur.com photo album which goes along with the growing content.

http://imgur.com/a/UcrpN

As well as one for the tree script

http://imgur.com/a/dqQ6A

So, here's what I'm doing: This started out as a request for a few items, and turned into something else entirely. I have a little time on my hands just about every day, and I figure I can make just about any weapon from a 2d texture in under 2 hours, including packaging time. So I ended up kinda doing just that. I'm even taking a few requests here and there.

Oh, I also did some little "tutorials" of me making a weapon in GMAX. They are nothing special, that is for sure, but I plan on making some more videos as I go along, especially if I get a mic hooked up that works.

https://www.youtube....VlRrM3scUbJHj_k

So far, I've added these to the package:

  1. Overture (Gunblade) from Final Fantasy
  2. Double Deity (double scythe) from Final Fantasy
  3. Gagnrad (double scythe) from Final Fantasy
  4. a bull faced greatsword, based on concept art for Lineage 2
  5. eight throwable stones, replacements for shuriken (I will probably package those separately later)
  6. a giant hammer (maul, for use with Feanor's Medieval Armory), based on concept art for DarkSiders 2
  7. a deep crystal sword (longsword), based on art for the Ragnara, Psychic Warrior character (as well as D&D Miniature)
  8. a broken troll sword (greatsword), based on a similar weapon in Torchlight 2
  9. a dragonbone club (maul, for use with Feanor's Medieval Armory), based on a weapon from Skyrim
  10. a coffin shaped flail head, based on the heretic set in Dark Age of Camelot
  11. eleven orcish weapons based on orcish gear from Skyrim
  12. a broken bottle (dagger)
  13. nine mugs of various liquids (for use with Tom_Banjo's Social Pheno)
  14. eight various bottles and glasses (for use with Tom_Banjo's Social Pheno)
  15. a big wooden club
  16. a split two handed sword of molten metal
  17. a set of forged ice weapons, including a battleaxe, longsword, and rod (new baseitems.2da allows rod to function as mace/club)
  18. a ruby colored maul (for Feanor's Medieval Armory) shaped from demon bone, based on concept art for Darksiders
  19. a tall maple tree created with my WIP Tree Creator script for GMAX
  20. a dark wooden barstool for use as a club (Maul, Feanor's Medieval Armory)
  21. a pair of emerald and amethyst gem-headed mauls (war hammer)
  22. a frost spear

I'm thinking I will try to make a weapon almost every day, even through the summer, unless I get completely bored with this, or misfortune hits me. If you have specific requests, feel free to post pictures we can discuss.

I'll try to update this top post so anybody entering here can see where we are so far. Hopefully this thread will have a good long run!

Enjoy!

And remember, I am not the one making the art for these (in most cases). I'm just making the models based on the art and leaving the art on as a skin. You can feel free to modify the art all you want, and also the models. If you see art here that you really like, go find the original author and donate to their cause or something. But if you like the models, and you feel like making a pot of coffee, then donate here.

That sounds great, MerricksDad. If you are looking for ideas, you could try tackling some of Sean K. Reynold's Blades of Faerûn.

You know what NWN really needs? More morningstar and flail models!

gaw, morningstars and flails are animated...but a little work wouldn't hurt

Edit:

I looked into a lot of other games just now, and a lot of them don't even have animated parts for their flails. What I was thinking of trying was making about 5 different flails, and change the length of the 4 animated parts to see if it makes it look weird in battle. That way I don't have to play with the animation at all, just link to the previously created series.

I found an item from D3 I'd like to test out tomorrow. It isn't much, but I think it may fit the size limitations for the flail chain.

Also this one:

From the looks of it, somebody already made 3d models for all those items. I wonder if they are available to be converted to NWN. Also, and unfortunately, those pictures don't make very good textures from which to create NWN weapons. If you mean more along the lines of putting the items in game for their stats, I just wanted to be clear I'm doing this for the models, not the stats.

To really get going on specific items, I really need good quality art and/or textures.

Mmm....

I have been observing this with a good degree of amazement and 'wow' that had rendered me partially speechless.

I am going to express a hope (in case this hasn't been done already) of some fishing poles (and perhaps even fishing nets) being made. Although I have a vague suspicion that these may require something (hopefully not too complex) being done on the animation side too.

*sits on a small pile of new 2D fish icons looking tentatively hopeful* :)

KC, have you ever played Under Siege on facebook? There is a character that uses a weighted net to slow down approaching enemies.

482208_129199963927068_858022192_n.pngEslysc8.png

An easy vfx could be created that somewhat simulates that net. It would never look correct as people moved through it (or fish) because it doesn't attach to the target creature. More of an AOE slow.

As for fishing poles...not sure how one would make them work. You can get a swing action out of the flail, but how would you make a character sit and wait after that? Maybe you could have an invisible fishing line, and just have a bobber out over the water plane. Just brain storming here. This is out of the scope of anything I currently want to work on. Maybe if the player moves, the bobber vfx just goes away? What I would like is something more along the lines of FATE, where it has an interface for fishing.

Today's item is the Heretic flail head, for both light and heavy flails. I am guessing by the image I posted above, that this item comes from Dark Age of Camelot, but which and where, I have no idea. I've taken the liberty of turning the spikes outward so as to inflict more damage.

NuDMwus.png

About the package:

I've updated the module included with the package. You can now use the module and view all the items I've created so far. Just go open the chest, and there they are. To use the module, you need to use the included baseitems.2da, which allows you to see the maul items, listed under blunts > hammers in the toolset. If you don't use that 2da, the toolset will crash on module open.

Edit:

So hey, if you are new to making models, don't make the mistake I commonly make: Save your work often. Have GMAX increment your file name, etc etc. I had to make this head 3 times, all because I failed to save often.

Re: nets. I've considered this for a project in the past. A recolored Web spell VFX would would be a pretty good approximation of a net, but note that just like the web spell, there are two VFX involved -- the one on the floor (indicating the area of effect) and the one used on any characters in the web (indicating who is stuck). You'd need a script to manage the whole process and to freeze the trapped creatures, of course. But it could be done.

The VFX in question are VFX_DUR_WEB and VFX_DUR_WEB_MASS

http://www.nwnlexico...p?title=Vfx_dur

If memory serves, Oraweb may have also had something along these lines in his U3 The Final Enemy module that was used by the sahuagin soldiers.

KC, Invisig0th, how about an AOE net that plays a quick FNF animation on the area, and then plays another onHit with a single target, enveloping them in a similar net-shaped cone. It could follow them around as if over their head, slowing their speed. You could have one for various sizes of creatures, like tall-medium, tall huge (wouldn't that look like a hair net?), long-medium, small, etc. That way the net could look useful vs any one target. It could also be applied as an aura, granting a slight speed penalty to any other creature within the aura (as if they are stepping on the net around the nearby affected creature.

Another alternative might be to knockdown all creatures in a target area, apply a stay of effect until the net wears off, so they can't just stand up and out of it, and make the net be a hold-stun effect instead of slow. That way you could make the forDuration animation just be a slightly bubbled net applied over the area, not specific to a single target.

Great work MerricksDad!

I have some sort of request,  I think the coolest all times magic weapon is the Phoenix Rod :wizard: from the old (1994) Raven Software Heretic. I lost the Maulotor count it toasted for me in the awld thymes :-) If you could do a Nwn model of that one... <whistles in awe> that would be... the greatest thing since sliced kobold was invented by Gary Gigax, no less. Here is a bad pic of what it looks like: http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Phoenix_Rod

Or third mostly unrelated Indiana Jones stuff

Headpiece_of_the_Staff_of_Ra.jpg

Edit:

So I'm thinking of doing the top one, making it an axe, with a script that lets you switch to crossbow style, same model, different carry position. In the axe mode, you can wield it like any other axe, chopping away gleefully. Maybe the gem will light up when it is swung. In crossbow style, maybe I can make it a new crossbow weapon type and change the projectile to the phoenix shown in image 2. Not sure if anybody would mind burning a baseitem slot for that, but I certainly don't.

I prefer second, them first and third, but it's a tough choice. I would be very happy with the first weapon... Interesting idea to use this as an axe. If my memory serves, the original was only useable as a rod with only 2 magic offensive functions: Phoenix missiles and Super-duper long range narrow flamethrower and no axe or staff usage, but your vision could be great fun too. I think the Fireball launcher crossbow style is the way to go as an advanced magic weapon. If you could do the special phoenix projectiles that would be incredibly sweet :-) but even if the Phoenix rod reincarnates only as a beautiful Fireball standard wand this would be a great win...

I'm going to go ahead and package these orc weapons, as is, with the current version of my weapon pack. But I'm going to hold off on submission to the CCC this month until the seam textures are cleaned up. That might take as long as the initial weapons took to make, but at least you guys will be able to play with these in the meantime.

Just finished the item icons and I have put a second drow-style chest in the module for the orcish weapons. Give a few minutes and I'll update the dropbox files. First, I wanna test the shortbow. It looks a little weird in the toolset and I need to make sure I didn't screw it up.

Edit:

Ok, the files should be ready for viewing. And here is the bigass orcish greatsword used ferociously against some goblins!

Looking great MerricksDad!

I have another suggestion!

Improvised weapons of all sorts. Legs from a chair, broken bottle, a pipe, a small branch/stick, a candelabra.

If we look away from weapons and take a look at just holdable things, then I would like to see some ordinary holdable bottles (for the casual tavern patron). Maybe wine-glass for the fancy ones and a big pint with foaming bear for the gent! :)

Hey CG, I tried my hand at a clone on the original Phoenix Rod, and I will certainly not be releasing that any time soon. It looks like crap. I hunted around trying to find anything similar with a nice face-on texture, and I have been unsuccessful. If you know somebody who can draw, and-or color, a nice rendition of the old one, I will glady make you that version. I'm going to give a few days on that one and see if my brain can come up with a better way of doing it. If I can't, I'll just do the one in the book art.

I was going to make an april fools day item this morning, but it was a bit much (adult), so I cancelled it. But I do plan on having meat shanks, hot pokers, and primitive clubs up sometime soon, such as those from Dungeon Siege 1. I also like the zombie arm club from PS:T. There is an endless supply of things a person can hold, especially as a makeshift variety of a real weapon, and we should definitely take a look at many of those.

Some time this week, I have already planned to make a Giant's Flagon, for use as a hammer weapon, at least by larger characters.

How about big clubs? Most of the existing clubs are small except for that nice tree limb looking club. Some more of that scale would be great.

I don't have a ton of time today, but I dug out an old giant club I used years ago on some custom ogres. I've added this to the files as Maul top 9 color 4. You can find it in the left chest in the module.
