Biotic squadmates in ME2

Although I have limited info so far, it seems most of your squadmates tend to be Biotics or Techs. Only Grunt seems to be "pure combat", at least, what what I know of Krogan battlestyles, I would expect him to be like Wrex.
Miranda, biotic.
Jacob, biotic.
Tali, tech.
Garrus, tech.
Thane, biotic.
Grunt, biotic soldier.
Subject Zero, biotic.
Mordin, tech.
Samara, biotic.
Zaeed, soldier.
Why are there so many support class squadmates and so few soldiers?
And why are most of them biotics?

Thane - Biotic/Combat, Infiltrator/Vanguard fusion.
Grunt - Combat, Krogan Battlemaster.
Subject Zero - Biotic/Combat, Vanguard
Mordin - Tech, Engineer.
Samara - Biotic, Adept.
Zaeed - Combat, Soldier.
I fixed your list for you. And, really, it's not all that unbalanced. If I see another thread like this, I think I'll gouge my eyes out.
I hate the whining.

SuZe is most likely not for support, but more likely for CQC like a Vanguard, Miranda is somewhat tech/biotic, from what was seen in the playthrough, Jacob is biotic/soldier, grunt i think is full soldier, maybe a bit tech.

And, Legion is an Infiltrator or Engineer (Not sure which), or some unique Geth class.

And yes, I am aware that Garrus can double as a Soldier if needs be.
However, in my experience during ME1, Biotics don't have enough endurance as a Soldier class.
With Ashley and Wrex, we could charge into a mob, blast away for about 10 seconds and not really feel damage, because we were all using Heavy Armor and had high regen.
From my perspective, it's like I've been handed a bunch of lightly armored soldiers.
Is Legion recruitable? I was hoping he was, but he wasn't on the list I checked and I thought his status as an enemy ruled out that possibility.

Well, I define a pure soldier as one who can wear Heavy Armor.

Grunt is not Biotic. Most alien squadmates will have unique classes to them. Samara will likely be an Asari Commando (meaning she will have an assault rifle). Garrus is a Turian Agent so he is effectively an infiltrator (but with an assault rifle instead of a pistol). Tali is a Quarian Mechanic (or something) so she is an engineer with a shot gun. Get the picture?

That was how it often played out in ME1.
Whenever I used someone with light armor, they ended up dead and I had to take the heat until I could revive them.
Which meant, as a result of this happening too much, I decided for absolute critical missions, I'd use Ashley and Wrex, who had few special powers, but had survivability. I didn't have to watch out for them as much as I did with biotics or techs.
But yes, Grunt is a definite.
I'm not sure who else to use after that.
Besides, this is the one lesson I learned from ME1:
"With heavy armor and big guns, who needs Biotics?"
And that rule would apply even more so in ME2, with the Heavy Cannons now available.

However, with Tali deploying things like combat drones and Thane taking out enemies by sniping, that's what I would define as support.
I think Samara has a healing power, but I'm not sure if it applies to the squad or just her.
To reiterate the ratios, ME1 has a combat class ratio of 40%, ME2 has a combat class ratio of 10%. Quite a difference there.
And I checked the stats. The only real soldier is Grunt, because he has both high health (600) and armor (300) and has Heavy Fortification.
Nobody else is even that close. Garrus has about 280 health, 250 armor.
I've been using Legion to team with Grunt, since he's very similar (250 Health, 350 Shields, Heavy Geth Shielding).
To be honest, I wouldn't really care if they had added one more core soldier (like Ashley in ME1 with her high health, immunity and shield boost). That would enable me to have my desired core team and I wouldn't have to bother with the others unless I really wanted to.
And before you say it, Zaeed doesn't count (no shielding power).
And yes, I'm hoping the alliances I'm making in ME1-2 will give me massive military backup in ME3.
I've got the Krogan Genophage cure data which I hope I can use to get them on my side, the Rachni have already agreed to help and I hope to convince the Quarians and the Geth to fight together.
