I was actually watching bioware's panel from gaymerx about how they deal with people freaking about gay people in their games or whatever, and Gaider actually made some rational not-dumb sounding points in that one

the new armor and weapon designs are really different and interesting

 

some of it borders on funky but it keeps everything varied

I don't see the nicolas cage  and nosferatu thing.. but that is just a thing people repeat whenever they see a bald person with gaunt features.

I didn't really register his appearance in smaller, busier screenshots, but in that portrait you can definitely see the distinct length in his features. 

 

I also don't get the "he's conventionally unattractive? that's daring," thing

 

his features are pretty regular and normative 

if he had long hair, people would probably think he looks like a typical fantasy elf

people did that with fenris too. They said he looked hunched over and fixated on how  skinny he was.

Instead of it being... oh he's an, he's toned and lean, lke elves always are.. it was interpreted diifferently

It's certain features that lead people to think of infirmity and from there they start using 'uncoventionally attractive'cause they are then battling against an association with sick people, in their minds, and few things are unattractive to people as visible disability

 

like, solas baldness, lack of visible musculature-- those are the things people are latching onto

INstead of him a bald man strong,  sharp cheekbones and features...  the sharp cheekbones, cause of the above mentioned weight and such,  are associated with infirmity instead of handsomeness

i guess not being voiced by freddie prince jr is a factor

I wasn't excited for Solas until his description came out. I've always loved the more serious and collected characters over the constant snark snark snarkity of some of the others
