Return to Ostagar weapons in Awakening?

I've read that DLC stuff doesn't carry into awakening. I noticed this with the gifts. I've yet to do awakening in a game where I did the Return to Ostagar. I'm wondering if it's worth doing if I won't have the weapons in Awakening. Will I still carry Duncan or Maric's sword? Or are they lost once I get to awakening?

Also, what are the best longswords in the game and where do I get them - by best I mean enchantable. I used to find them here or there but haven't lately and have forgotten where I got them. I figure I might as well get one in Origin to take into awakening if I can't use Duncan's. Thoughts? Thanks!

I started Awakening wearing Cailan's shiny armour, so it transfers.  :)

It even had three slots for armour runes. Maric's blade and Cailan's shield also transfer.

But the armour and weaponry in Awakening are very much better than the Origin stuff, even the DLC. All you really need is something good enough to get you through the initial combat.

When i did awakening the stuff from return to Ostagar did transfer. Sadly, Starfang didn't. The best I can tell is the equipment from the Keep and Shale's DLC won't transfer. Starfang is an excellent longsword but didn't show up for me. Marc's blade has some nice features and it does transfer. I just added winterforge to my game because I wanted the Warden sword and armor Nexus Mod but i didn't like the stats. Cailan armor has a set bonus: -25% fatigue +5 health regeneration in combat but it might be bugged according to Wiki. Cailan's Arms which is Marc's blade and Cailan Shield also has a great set bonus: Set: +5 damage Set: +5 stamina regeneration in combat.

It is a really nice package for a sword/board player. I found this in Wiki:

"The helmet appearance has been changed in Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening to the whitish plume and silver visor variation of Helm of Hirol's Defense.

The set might not import into Awakening. A Warden wearing the set at the end of Origins may begin Awakening without any armor at all. However, an unofficial mod (found here) will allow transfer of all DLC gear. Make sure the items are in inventory or equipped by the Warden at the time of transfer.
The item set bonus may be lost when imported into Awakening. The bonus can be retained if the armor is summoned using the additem mod; however, selling and buying back the set from a merchant causes the two rune slots on the breastplate to disappear (only seems to happen when selling to Yuriah and Ambassador Cera). This does not happen to Cailan's Arms.

There are several problems with transferring items.

I have a for sure transfer with King Marc's blade and Duncan's shield. I played awakening several times and they always show up.

The weapons you get from wade are pretty good. I have the warden armor mod that even adds to them, but I can never use the runes. Those runes are totally wasted IMO in awakening. You barely even have time to bother with them. Other skills are more worthwhile.

But it does seem that it's not worth the trouble of using a mod to carry weapons. I guess what wade has is better. Thanks

In awakening, if one doesn't use runes, then practically any sword is good. There is hardly much difference between an 'Iron' and a 'Volcanic Aurum' longsword, except for the available rune slots.

Warden's companion, Dumat's Spine, Kallak, Vigilance are some of the noteworthy legendary longswords in awakening.

I'm not entirely sure. It's been inconsistent for me. Cailan's armour and sword+shield transferred just fine for me as did other oddities like the helm of honnleath, but some things didn't go over well. Like starfang vanishing. If you're on PC, there's a mod that will make things so much less of a headache for you. If not, the only advice I can give is to unequip all dlc items before you import and see how it works out for you. If the game decides be a jerk and eat up your dlc equipment, the game will likely give your warden the permanent boosts said equipment gave! It's only fair you get such an advantage for Bioware providing such a buggy product :)

I haven't played vanilla DAO in years, so I can't say with absolute certainty what the best longswords are (especially given that the Veshaille trumps just about any 1h weapon), but I'm going to say Duncan's, Maric's, Starfang, Keening Blade are the cream of the crop as far as origins longswords go.

If you really want to go 'full bling', here is a console command for PC players: 'runscript zz_fab'. That will give you access to every rune, all the armour, all the weapons and much, much more.  ;)

It's probably best to wait to use it after the opening series of fights when things have calmed down.

Cailan's armor transfers over, as do Duncan's sword and dagger.  I'm not sure about Maric's sword and Cailan's shield because I left them both on Alistair.  I think the Nug Crusher maul transfers over too, but I sold it in Origins so I'm not entirely sure.

Huh, anyone notice how in the cutscenes with Cailan, he has a greatsword strapped to his back?  How come we don't get that?

Maric's Blade transfers to DAA, at least on PC. I'm 99% certain that Cailan's Shield transfers, too. (IIRC, the only issue with RTO items in DAA is something to do with the appearance of Cailan's helm... it takes on the appearance of one of the DAA helms, can't remember which.)

ETA that the greatsword Cailan is equipped with is Yusaris, so it is obtainable by ordinary means. And I always imagined that his shield was ceremonial, since he doesn't fight with a sword-and-shield. (File under: Imaginary Fereldan war voodoo)

IIRC, you can pick up the Howe family shield in the Arl's Denerim estate in DAO, even though Rendon fights two-weapon style. Ditto for Duncan's shield. I think there's a pretty good argument for ceremonial Ferelden war-gear. :)

The weird thing about taking over the RTO items-the repeater gloves are the only thing that upgrade past Dragonbone. It'd have been the last thing I thought would upgrade.

Works for me. It's only Wardens Keep stuff that is broken.

It doesn't work in origin, that's why I ask. I didn't get anything from it when I ran it in origin. But my game when to crap since I unzipped that morrigan restoration patch. I'm reinstalling now. So who knows what the deal is.

I meant the pc code didn't work in the origin part of the game. I wasn't sure if it just worked for Awakening part. Console? You mean xbox or another?

Yeah, xbox. If I recall, only Warden's Keep presents some issues. I brought over Maric's and Duncan's weapons in Awakening before.

Yes. That's an Awakening-specific debug script. (See this page on the DA Wiki for a list of  most of the DAO/DAA console debug and cheat scripts.)

I know the staff you get from the chest at Ostagar and the staff you get at the Warden's keep don't transfer to Awakening.
