siding with any of the templars in the end because despite each having good points, participating in ordered the massacre of people not involved in a singular terrorist act is pretty friggin' twisted, massacring the Sabrae clan

Killing them on the premise of justice for the Chantry is stretching i admit, killing them because that circle has shown both gross corruption, incompetence and wickedness to his highest echelons time and again however is something else. Also killing a neutral hostile faction to Humanity can hardly be construed as "evil" The Dalish, Qunari, Darkspawn all have a singular aspect that they have in common, they prevent peaceful coexistence.

What about allowing the anvil to be discovered, allowing the werewolves to kill the clan and thrive, massacring the circle, and allowing the architect to live?

The golems beat back the first Archdemon and allowed the dwarves a hundred years of peace from the darkspawn. The dwarven kingdoms fell after they lost access to this technology. I didn't view it as a bad or suboptimal choice in itself.

In and of itself, it wouldn't be. Given who runs Orzammar and who controls the Anvil, on the other hand...

I did consider a "worst universe" run right after I first accidentally killed Merill's clan (before I reloaded), but I figure it's probably not worth the effort.

Define worst universe?

I happen to think that my current canon leaves things in a reasonable order

though I haven't gotten to DA2 in my canon yet....

Isn't the death of her clan unavoidable?

You can have Hawke take the blame for Marethari's death if for some reason you feel like covering for Merrill

Well, this is what I define as a worst case scenario.  This is just my opinion and I can understand if others disagree:

Origins

  • Harrowmont in charge
  • Anvil intact
  • Branka left alive.
  • Left the curse unbroken and sided with the werewolves.
  • Annulled the Circle
  • Redcliffe Village left unsaved.
  • Isolde dead to try to save Connor
  • Warden allows Connor to be possessed anyway.
  • Intentionally allowing a little girl to be possessed by "Kitty"
  • Urn desecrated, but make sure you kill the cult leader so you can...
  • Leave the High Dragon alive and tell Genetivi that it's okay to have people show up.  The dialogue slide will say that the pilgrims were eaten.
  • Leliana "killed"
  • Sten and Oghren possibly leaving
  • Shale killed during the Anvil quest
  • Actually, after some digging, it's possible to leave only Dog in your party by the end
  • Alistair not hardened, not made King
  • Alistair executed or US
  • Warden or Loghain US

Awakening

  • Side with the Baroness.  For PC users, there is a mod that will fix the bug that leaves you unable to do so.
  • Sigrun being left at the Keep and dying if you do so.
  • Execute Nathaniel Howe
  • Give Anders over to the Templars  (it may not do any real good, but it's still a rotten move.)

DA2  (there isn't a lot I can think of)

  • Hand Fenris back to Demerius
  • Give Isabela to the Qunari
  • Drive Aveline out of the guard and do not do The Long Road.
  • Varric kills Bartrand and gets the lyrium shard
  • Kill Merrill's clan.
  • Let Merrill finish the mirror (if the cryptic statements by the devs are anything to go by.)

Decisions like Mage or Templar, siding with Talis, keeping Anders alive or working with the Architect are really subjective and up for hot debate, so I left them off the list.

hmmmmm well in DA:O

Behlen in charge with an anvil and Branka kicking

Circle was not annulled but mages were instead confined to quarters and templars helped at Denerim

Curse cured

Isolde dead, Connor fine

all companions recruited, ALL

Urn not descecrated

Dragon dead

Anora married

I'm certainly planning to use the Keep to make a world state where the Warden and Hawke did all the pointlessly evil and/or mean things I can never bring myself to do in game - killing dog, making Leliana and Wynne turn on you at the Ashes, breaking up Aveline and Donnic, forcing Anders to work with the Templars ...

I'm with you on all but that last one. Particularly Aveline and Donnic.

Fergus would be King faster than you could say "Hail Cousland". Head of the most powerful Noble family in Ferelden, already groomed as heir to what amounts to a throne given the scope of Cousland holdings, proven capable of producing an heir (unlike the previous monarchs), and recently widowed through base treachery, making him the sympathetic vote and the practical one, since he's now available for a political marriage.

Add in potentially being the sibling of the Hero of Ferelden, and he's all but elected.

If only that was an option instead of marrying Alistair to Anora :P

you know ive always thought this, not just in dragon age, but some of the choices in video games are just tough to make...  so thank bioware for making the keep where we can just sign what we want without having to see the cutscene consequences!  Total slaughter, sure why not i dont have to look my companions in the eye and deal with backlash, its all in text!

With Bhelen in charge as the newly crowned King, the casteless gain more freedoms in exchanging for fighting the darkspawn in the Deep Roads, as he wants to regain the lost thaigs who the traditionalist Harrowmont would otherwise abandon. Add in the addition of the warrior caste and the legendary golems in helping beat back the darkspawn, and I see it as beneficial to the survival of Orzammar, considering the role they played in keeping the darkspawn at bay for an entire century, before Caridin sealed it away.

Branka is, admittedly, not the most optimal person to handle it, but she's mortal, and the darkspawn literally occupy a continent-wide expanse of the fallen dwarven thaigs.

I'll probably youtube the worst choices route, unless I so bork my initial unspoiled (hopefully!) playthrough that I end up with the worst possible end state unintentionally.
