Hi everyone. :)

So I'm thinking of purchasing a few DLCs for Mass Effect 2 and 3. I'm currently going through my Mass Effect 2 playthrough and will be moving on to my second Mass Effect 3 playthrough. I've got a limited amount of money on me so I've got a limited amount of DLC that I can purchase.

So far I'm definitely going to be purchasing the Kasumi DLC for Mass Effect 2. If I were to purchase one other for Mass Effect 2, which would you recommend it be? I want one that will make a big positive impact on my Mass Effect 3 playthrough. I've heard that Lair of the Shadow Broker is a good one but I'd like to see what all of you think. (I understand this should be posted in the Mass Effect 2 section but this relates to both games, and mainly Mass Effect 3.)

I currently have purchased no DLC for Mass Effect 3 either. Which ones do you all think are the best and worth buying, and which ones and the least worth buying? I want the ones that have a good affect on the story and are a real good addition to my playthrough. Feel free to leave a list from the ones you think are most worth buying, to the ones you think are least worth buying.

Thanks.

Kasumi, Shadow Broker, Overlord and Arrival for ME 2.

Javik (if you haven't bought the collectors edition), Leviathan, Omega, Citadel for ME 3.

Don't buy any of the alternate appearence packs or weapon & equipment DLCs.

I'd add Arrival and Omega to that.

Lair of the Shadow Broker is the obvious choice for Mass Effect 2. Overlord is a well done self-contained story, but it has few implications for the narrative or universe at large. Arrival is just terrible.

For Mass Effect 3, I would definitely recommend Javik (From Ashes). He adds a lot to the story, and is one of the most interesting squadmates in the trilogy. If you don't have the Extended Cut, you should download that too since it's free. The rest of the ME3 DLC is dependent on what you want from the game:

- Leviathan has a really well done atmosphere, and its mission set is a lot of fun. It also makes some strides to contextualize the ending as order vs chaos instead of organics vs synthetics. Ultimately, if you can put up with the explanation given for the Reapers in the ending, Leviathan is a fun DLC that provides further insight into that topic.

-Citadel is a really fun DLC. It provides the most bang for your buck with lots of content. You get to spend a lot of time with your squadmates, even the ones who are no longer on your crew like the ME2 cast. However, some people are thrown off by the rather cheesy and comedic elements in it, while others find the lighter tone rather refreshing.

-Omega has great action, and some interesting roleplaying aspects. However, compared to the others, you get the least out of this for your money. If there's any ME3 DLC you can pass on, this would be it.

When I first purchased ME2, for my ps3, it contained all dlc except arrival. So I purchased that dlc

ME3 the extended cut can be downloaded for free(if you haven't already), From Ashes is good since you get another squadmate, Javik, a good character, Leviathan, Citadel dlc and get Omega. I'm not a fan of the Omega dlc

Lair of the Shadow Broker is a must have.

I would pass on From Ashes unless you're set on buying everything. The only mission it includes is pretty lame, and despite what people here are saying, the addition to the lore is negligible. Javik isn't that great of a character either.

Looks like the From Ashes DLC is popular. I've got the Extended Cut DLC, thanks for checking. Would you say Lair of the Shadow Broker has an impact on the story of Mass Effect 3? Citadel DLC looks great too, are the scenes and story in it actually a part of the Mass Effect story, or are some of them just for a joke? (come on, some of those scenes are pretty...different.)

Mass Effect 2 - Lair of the Shadowbroker, Cerberus Network(unsure if it's still free with all new copies, Zaeed>Kasumi), Kasumi, Overlord, Arrival.  Lair of the Shadowbroker is easily the best of the bunch, and the one I would recommend getting first.  Overlord is an enjoyable mission but can easily be skipped.  Arrival was lazily done, and honestly irrelevant to the larger story, I believe all you get out of doing it is one line in Mass Effect 3.  Next time I play Mass Effect 2, will probably be skipping Arrival, the only redeeming part of the DLC is it's the first time you see Hackett.

Mass Effect 3 - Javik, Citadel, Leviathan, Omega.  I love Citadel DLC but I won't put it ahead of having Javik throughout the game, I bought the CE version so I always had Javik.  Leviathan is also quite good, I love how they brought back the voice actors it really brings Mass Effect 3 to a different level of DLC over Mass Effect 2.  Except of course for Omega, which is not at the same level of Leviathan, Citadel or Shadowbroker but better than Overlord and Arrival.

In full order of what I would get first, Javik, Citadel, Shadowbroker, Zaeed, Leviathan, Kasumi, Omega, Overlord, Arrival.

LotSB is good, doubly good if Liara is your LI.

Citadel DLC is a whole bunch of meaty goodness.

What do you think Shep, should he get Citadel?

I'll take that as a yes.

I'd say LotSB for ME2 and for ME3 Citadel and Omega, oh and definitely get Javik, he's a great character.

Without opening up a tedious debate, I'm going to go ahead and say that this forum as it is tends to be a great deal more 'Renegade' than the player base as a whole, which is no doubt responsible for the popularity of Javik here.

If you enjoy very 'Renegade' characters you might like Javik, but otherwise I imagine there's a good chance he'll just come across as irritating.

I don't think Lair of the Shadowbroker effects the story in Mass Effect 3 much, maybe a few lines of dialogue here and there.  It's like Arrival in the way that what happened had to happen regardless of if Shepard helped or not.

Overlord on the other hand, does actually matter in Mass Effect 3, depending on choices made you get additional cameo appearances.

I played ME3 without LOTSB and it's not that much different it just makes Liara as a character in 3 make more sense. I've also played without arrival and it makes no real impact at all except for one or two lines at the beginning of the game.

Citadel DLC is really for the fans. In terms of story and game flow it's probably last, but like mike said it gives you the most bang for your bucks out of all the DLC. If story is really what you're after I would suggest Leviathan. Omega is something I would suggest waiting for until it's on sale again

I personally wouldn't define Javik as "Renegade" but then again most people who try to define "Paragon" and "Renegade" come off looking foolish.

You're like the commenters on yahoo who have to bring politics into every single story even if the article has nothing to do with politics.

The man asked for advice. I gave it to him.

Unless you're absolutely dead-set on having a very 'Renegade' character, skip From Ashes. Go with Leviathan or another ME 2 DLC instead.

Having Javik on the missions provides some interesting dialogue especially on the Thessia mission.

For ME2, just buy Shadowbroker, and maybe get zaeed (I got zaeed and kazumi for free, along with overlord, but I don't find them worth my money)

For ME3, I decided to go with all 3 dlc, Omega, leviathan and citadel. I enjoyed Omega a lot, but it was because I'm a fan of Aria T'Loak, wich is not the case for most people. Maybe you can pass omega. I haven't completed leviathan and citadel yet.

EDIT: I forgot the ashes dlc, I like it, but I don't find javik too interesting to be honest. I just like to have him for thessia's mission (I'm bringing him to the leviathan missions to see if he has relevant things to say). You can pass this dlc if you are not too interested on knowing more about protheans.

Don't listen to this asinine theory OP, my preference is towards playing Paragon characters. It's nice to have a selection of characters who play against each other. I liked taking Javik whenever I had Liara with me as I liked Alistair and Morrigan together. Javik's snark is worth it alone.
