I can see arguments for both sides. Unlike LotSB which I feel should certainly be done before the SM, Arrival is a tough decision.

On the one hand it works as a good epilogue reminding you of the upcoming reaper threat which otherwise is a little awkward crammed into an otherwise collector threat exclusive story. It also fits well with ME3's prologue.

But on the other hand doing Arrival before the SM shows Harbinger's influence over the collectors. It fits well with the last scene before the credits after the SM; a reminder that the reapers are coming. The SM does feel like the end of the game anyway. It also makes sense not to hold off on something so crucial as an imminent reaper threat as well since you get the mission pretty early in the game (after Horizon).

Another reason I like doing in pre-SM is because it adds an other desperation/race-against-time factor for completing the SM. With Arrival done Shepard knows the Reapers are coming and whatever plan they have going on with the Collectors needs to be stopped.

Although the main reason is that most things seem fairly anti-climatic after the SM. So, much so that I usually have to stop playing a certain file for a week or so to let the post-SM excitement fade.

Also, doing the SM before Arrival just feels anti-climactic.

Hmm.... I actually feel it's the reverse. Doing the SM last feels anticlimactic to me, since the threat in Arrival is much more consequential than the threat in ME2 proper.

I always felt it was more anti-climatic in terms of non-plot related elements. The SM ends with a much bigger bang (not literally) there's epic music and Shepard looking out into space through a broken hull in the Normandy.

Wouldn't Arrival be more anti-climatic as an ending since the threat isn't really resolved? The SM resolves the Collector threat completely. Hell, doing Arrival beforehand gives explanation to the glimpse of the moving reapers so you know what's in store for ME3 if you like that sort of foreshadowing.

Thinking about it, why should ME2 have anything done after the SM as an epilogue? ME1 and ME3 both ended after the final main mission. Why not ME2?

I have done arrival before the suicide mission more to see the difference, but I prefer doing the dlc after the suicide mission since the current threat is the collectors. And as I posted earlier, you get to see Harbinger in his true form.
