Disappointment is one thing but surely this method of passive-aggressive pessimism serves only to irritate you further?

On the contrary, it only seems to irritate others unwilling to accept that 2 years waiting for ME2 and your favourite aspect gets relegated to the side roles, with your only piece of encouragement being, "dont worry, in another 2+ years time theyll be a part of ME3. How big a part is open to interpretation again" is worth being massively disappointed with.

Just stop for a second and think if this situation would be any different were it Tali getting a sideline role.

Ive heard tell some are already disappointed her "hypothetical" romance isnt supposed to big enough.

Personally I never expected to see Tali again so as to whether I *personally* would be upset had her role been sidelined, obviously not.

Don't get me wrong I don't intend to trivialise your frustration, despite not sharing it. My investment in either the Ashley or Liara romance is not high enough for me to relate. Though there is still hope of a satisfactory resolution which is better then I expect from my DA characters romance, at this stage I assume my liklihood of getting closure for my character there is slim to none. I am slightly optimistic though, and more over I remain optismitic that bioware will continue to deliver characters that I can become emotionally invested in.

Nevertheless I hope for your sake that there is resolution in the future, and if as you say conversations such as this don't serve to only irritate you, fair enough too.

Oh that's adorable. You fell in love. And you say you're not a fanboy. You're a Liara/Ash/Kaidan fanboy! Now it makes sense.

Oh for crying out loud. Read that thread OP. I WAS such a "fanboy". Them getting only a minor role in ME2 and a promise "theyre in ME3" isnt enough to keep me that way. I might not even be around for ME3 for crying out loud. Youre about 6 months late on that fanboy tag.
Nice try though. It was equally adorable.

So scorned fanboy was accurate then. Now I'll add liar to the list too since you denied it earlier.

A "rejected fanboy"? Use your brain, idiot. Its a trivial internet word that you are epitomising.  Does someone who thinks the ammo system sucks and gives up on ME2 become an ex-fanboy or your "scorned fanboy"?

Its amazing that you are here arguing fanboy semantics instead of posting a real argument. If you had half a brain you would see its just a case of a change of direction, maybe permanent, maybe not, but not one that has gone down well for some people. Particularly from a series that boasts its "choices have effects" is a unique trait among games.

Yes if you chose to like the LI's you got screwed. That's an effect. So you see it was really poor judgement on your part. I bet you saved the Rachni Queen too. Naive.

Please, do try and be less predictable.

Yes thats right, Im a whining fanboy who is criticising the game for lacklustre carrying over of decisions from ME1.

That makes me a fanboy of what precisely?

Quit whining, deal with it. ME1 LI's are not going to appear in ME2.

Quit whining, deal with it. ME1 LIs not getting a big enough role in ME2 was bound to cause some discontent. Why else would Casey trot out the "for ME3" excuse anyway?

ME3 is years away, and a heck of a lot can change.

I suppose this won't satisfy you, but in one of the developer video-interviews (don't remember which) one of the developers claim that the reason that the LI of ME1 is not in ME2 is because they are going to play a big role in ME3, and they want to remove them from the game to ensure that they are alive for ME3, as apparently companions can die in ME2.

Personally I think that once the game is there and we can start playing with the new LI, we won't miss the old ones as much anyway. We are attached to the old story, until the new story is there.

Yeah I agree with you. Those ME1 Li's are gone baby gone. That's ok though because I'm a bigger fan of the ME2 romances. If they had kept the same LI's from ME1 we wouldn't have the same romance interests in ME2 and that would really not be fair to us ME2 fans. I'd lose all respect for Mass Effect as a trilogy. If my ME2 romances didn't carry over to ME3 and replace my ME1 LI's.

Funny, the only one whining here is you.

ME1 LI not getting role for ME2 WHAAAAA! WHAAAA!

You want to boycott the game? Go ahead. But stop your constant crying of how ME2 is going to be a huge dissapointment because your favourite characters aren't appearing that much.

I honestly think its pretty clear by now they wont feature in any DLC Bioware release, but I thought it worth mentioning if nothing else but for the sake that people still do care about these characters more than the new ones in ME2, and having already waited 2+ years for ME2 only to get this - the idea of waiting another 2+ years for quite possibly the same role is enough to put some people off the Mass Effect trilogy.

Well, its kinda hard to really consider it a trilogy at this point. isn' it?  Sure it's a 3 game series, but it seems there isn't an overall story that really ties all 3 games together the way a trilogy like Star Wars has.  As Chris has stated on more than one occasion it is more like Indiana Jones where you have a collection of separate adventures.  The characters in any one episode of the story may have no tie to the following installments.

Now that obviously doesn't pacify my disappointment, I think BW missed a great oppurtunity here to do something really remarkable with these characters, but the ship has sailed and we have what we have.  I am not holding out any hope that in another 2 years we get anything more than what we are getting here in ME2 where the original cast gets more than a peripheral tie to the game.

I still wouldn't mind being pleasantly surprised that the "non-prominent role" we have been told the old cast has was intentionally inaccurate and that we end up getting plenty of interaction and development with these characters but I am fully aware that is but a pipe dream.  It's a shame too, if the amount of depth and care that is supposedly placed in these new character's stories is true then I would say BW really dropped the ball here not putting that effort into the crew from the first game.

It is a BW game though, it will still be expertly delivered and produced, so I am not turned off the series at all, just disappointed in the missed chance to do something really spectacular with it.

I'm talking about them not appearing in your squad or playing a part in an extremely pivotal role so crucial to the story as that ****** wants it to be.

Dinkamus, I can see where you're coming from, at the moment it looks like they might have a smaller role, but we really don't know what their role will be like untill we play the game. I know it kind of sounds a bit stupid to say, but it is slightly pointless having a go at Bioware when we really dont know yet. You may of course be right, but untill we all play the game and see how big a part they may or may not play, there is little sense in gtting worked up. By all means go mental if you feel that there parts were small, but we simply dont know yet.

Really? Telling you to quit whining = whining? LULZWUT.

And where exactly did i say ME2 is not perfect in this thread? Oh wow more unsubstantiated accusations by this fool. I am so hurt and so embarrassed!

Funny how i'm supposidly "whining" as much considering i wasn't the one constantly making threads about how ME2 is going to be a dissapointment because my precious characters aren't having a major role along with the fact of whining in threads for months.

I appreciate you going about this reasonably (which is more than can be said for some pansies here), but there have been numerous spoilers, confirmations and reviews now affirming the fact that their role isnt up to much in ME2.

I just myself today bought a new 360 mag with an ME2 review, and it meekly criticises the game for avoiding the major decisions and skirting around them in ME2. Such as the LIs.

I love the fact that Conrad Verner now plays a bigger role than Liara; oh, and let us not forget he's on my ship.
