Yeah, I think that is the bottom line, to gather up and just lambaste the forum with our support in bringing the remainder of the ME1 squad back, Ash/Kaidan, Wrex, and Liara...

With enough support, I'm sure we can get them back, but now that I think of it, We may have to act sooner than later as I previously surmised. We would have to act like, in three months or so, because Bioware will be shifting gear, some of their team working on ME3 already, so we would need to show support for the ME1 characters early on.....and also

I remember over the summer, one of the Devs made a thread asking what we would like to see improved for the second game.....We all need to look out for that thread in the near future.

Of course, I firmly believe that they WILL bring the first crew back, but a little extra support couldn't hurt could it?

like what reviews?
cuz they are opinion and all the reviews that ive read havnt said anything about ME1 LIs
let only ME2 LIs besides that there are more options for LIs then there was in ME1

I was talking about streams of in game footage, that folks who are watching updated me on.

In terms of reviews I recently brought the lastest 360 mag, and in its review of ME2 it contained a, rather tame, criticism of ME2 for skirting on the major issues from ME1, and Kai/Ash were one of the specifically mentioned shortcomings. LIke I said, it wasnt vitriolic, since they dont care about the game that much, its a job to them, but it was a criticism none-the-less.

oh okay right on.

look at it this way. if people are really commited to their LIs from ME1 then they wont cheat on them with an ME2 LI
and like the Tali and Garrus fans they can show that commitment on the forums and through the game
and i guess that ME2 will be a good way to show off your maleshep/femshep's fluffy feelings by resucing or doing what ever is involved in ME2 with the ME1 LIs.

and if you not satified Dinkamus_Littlelog  then i will be your LI

There's alway the fans who love something so much that nothing but their own imagined outcome will satisfy them.

Yeah, its not that Im unappreciative of the support, but Im definitely glad you were joking.

As for the game itself, itll be here in a few days time, so Ive got to get my moneys worth from at least one playthrough.

And guess where Ill be coming with my long list of criticisms? Dun dun dun, you guessed it: right here.

Christ, if some folks have a problem with my now, I dont know how theyll cope after Ive played the game, and they will no longer have a leg to stand on in terms of trying to deflect criticism?

Yeah I mean, I'm super excited about the new squad members, I MAY even pursue an LI (Miranda) but, I will have to see how Ash responds to me after 2 years, and based off of circumstance, as well as how Miranda is, and if she has that soft side to her t hat was hinted at through various trailers.

I’m in.

One of the biggest draws for me for Mass Effect was that it was a continuous trilogy. I really wanted to see the relationship between Shepard and Kaidan (in my case) grow through out the series. And if it takes spamming these boards for years, to guarantee that ME3 is good, then I’ll do it.

Kaidan was my LI as well and while having him in ME3 is worth the trouble I would like a DLC for this game at the very least...to maybe expand on the romance after the main quest perhaps. I think it would be pretty silly to stay loyal to the guy and not get to interact with him after the suicide mission is over.

Wasn't one of the excuses made by the devs that someone wouldn't take their husband or wife with them on a suicide mission if they could possibly die(doesn't make sense for the ME2 LI's but whatever). Well if the suicide mission is over it would be logical that Shep could return to her/his loved one.

eh everyone has there own criticism
and thats what the forums are for. disscusion, criticism, getting groups of people together  and to give the devs that back to they can make awesome games.
i was a huge fan of ME1, i know were it lacked for me and were it brought me in and couldnt let go
I cant wait for ME2. it will honestly be the longest three days of my life.
and over all i know it will make me want to play it again and again and ill be waiting for ME3
its like magic :wizard:

I personally don't play video game sequels (or read series of novels, or watch television shows) and get mad if my own fantasy of how things should turn out doesn't pan out.  I prefer unpredictable plots, as I'm sure many people would agree.  If I just wanted to imagine my own outcome, I'd write fanfiction.

After I got over the disappointment of hearing that the ME1 LIs were not going to be in my squad for the next game, I thought about how many ways they could be included in the plot, and still make them important and interesting.  Even seeing the footage of Ash being attacked by the Collectors had promise and potential.  But now, what I've seen and heard about the ME1 LIs...is not important or interesting.

I guess we should thank Chris Priestly for lowering expectations, because if we had taken what other devs were saying at face value, this would have been a bigger shock.

Exactamundo. Unless they are planning on killing off yet more squadmates with the DLC, that damn "we dont want to risk them excuse" isnt valid anymore.

Like I keep saying, if they are planning an expansion, some people might need replacements, and since the majority of the squad are new additions, why not give some old faces some squad time?

Besides, new players will have experiences with them in ME2 anyway, so that "confused" crap wont fly either.

Well now I guess I know what they meant when they said that most of those complaining about the ME LI's not being in the squad would wind up cheating with the new LI's from ME2. There are no romances with the ME LI's. Sounds like it was arranged for you to get your heart broken by your LI (at least Kaidan and Ash because you're working with Cerebus) so that you'll go find someone new. Not good. At least knowing the spoilers I can prepare myself for the worst.

I don't know if anyone remembers this but I thought there was a question recently by some interviewer that asked Casey or one of the dev's about ME3...if they were working on it and they said something about they were coming up with new ideas for a new squad...which sounded like they were going once again with an all new squad. I think it was posted somewhere on the forums but I can't remember if it was the old one or the new one. Anyhow I don't hold out much hope for either the ME squaddies or ME2 squaddies to be on the squad in ME3.

There is no use to attach yourself to LIs and squad members. Just use them as canon fodder. This is no trilogy, unless you consider 3 independent franchise titles to be one.

Yeah, guess there is some compassion in that cold heart of his.

He certainly seems to have painted a more realistic picture of things than Casey did, which is worrying when you consider their roles, and yet at the same time completely understandable.

I think PissedOffIce makes a good point. The whole talk about the ME1 LIs and the ME2 squad suggests the characters are somewhat "expendable" in the overall trilogy. Why bother getting too attached if weve seen what it can lead to?

My own personal take will be to dispassionately move my way through their characters looking for the best possible outcome with zero "emotional engagement".

they said if you dont interact witht he character and gain their loyalty then you shepard can die along with squad mates. so then your ME1 LI will be come a widow
and thats no happy ending.

That was Ashley in the launch trailer and obviously Ashley/Kaidan (maybe Liara) - your LI of choice - is taken by the Collectors (not spoilerish since the devs said that anything in one of their trailers is fair game).

If you read the spoilers from earlier this thread, you'll see (and I can confirm) that this is not the case.  The non-romance meeting with Ash or Kaidan, at least, is extremely disappointing for fans of those characters.  I don't even want to complain, really, but what I've seen makes me sadder than I thought I would be.

For those who are annoyed by ME1 LI fans, as someone else said, Tali and Garrus got their recognition in ME2 because of fan support on the forums.  I can only hope, at this point, that being proactive and loud about wanting the ME1 LIs back in a major role in ME3 will be productive, because ME2 is going to be pretty bittersweet for me now.

Let me point out again that my character did romance Kaidan in ME1, so I'm part of the ME1 romance fan group. I liked him well enough and was interested in his return, cycling through optimism/mild disappointment as time passed on the old forums and we got more detials. I'm just not so invested that I'm destroyed by his character having a reduced role (perhaps I was obsessed enough to jokingly complain about his hair however - ahem). Now I'm of the opinion that people should feel free to criticize & speak out, but it's just that I am a wee bit tired of the, I hate to say it, whiny/super-massively negative tone these threads can take on (and I liked my ME1 LI after all). At any rate, I've been trying to avoid any detailed spoilers/coverage/streams like the bloody plague. Are these reveiwers/players actually using ME1 saves with Ashley/Kaidan as love interests? This is all I want to know, no specifics thanks.

I can't comment on this meeting (again, my avoidance policy is in effect...except for that little slip where I watched the first 30 minutes and then totally swore off anything similar in the future), not having seen it or knowing whether or not it's the same way if you HAVE romanced them or...very much else including how it all ends. As for the influence of the forums on Garrus/Tali however - I kind of wonder about that. The trilogy's entire arc has already been outlined, so presumably they did have plans for the characters, but who knows - anything is possible I suppose. Considering how vocal people were about wanting Wrex back (and he was pretty much one of the most popular characters), he is still limited to his role on Tuchanka however, so meh.

I know that, and that coercion is why Im not going to be "emotionally invested" in them.

Particularly when they could end up with a similar fate to the ME1 LIs, in *the final act of the trilogy*.
