Thinking about my TGI build...

So the pretty standard thing is to go with a 6/4/6/6/4 or 6/6/6/6/0 build with a fairly stale cloak -> zap -> dakka dakka sort of routine playstyle.

But I was toying around and kind of thought to myself... what about an AR/Melee hybrid build?

Rank 6 of turian's melee damage is yet another 30% weapon damage. That's pretty intense to add onto Tactical Cloak.

My question for you guys is... how on earth do I spec this build?

Cloak is obvious - damage, melee, AR damage

Fitness is obvious - all melee

but the question comes down to passives, Overload, and Stim Packs.

Do I go for the melee bonus in stim packs, or should I just go rank 3 and leave it?

Do I max out passives, or are Overload and Stim Packs too good to pass up?

It's a tough build. Everything on this kit is awesome.

I'm sort of leaning towards 6/6/3/5/6

3 in overload to stun a single target to somewhat supplement the ensuing melee damage, or to stun one enemy and melee another.

5 in passives. I know... it's hard to pass up weapon damage...

6 in stim packs for melee damage galore

the alternative is

6 in passives, 5 in overload for chain an neural shock, 3 in stim packs for "oh ****" shields.

Since I'm not using single shot weapons, I don't need Overload to fully stip shields. Just stagger. Chain, however, would be hugely helpful to a melee kit.

I also have the option of skipping AR's to forgo rank 6 TC, and using Shotgun + Omni-Blade. That's +25% melee instead of 25% AR damage. It's kind of hard to say. In reality, I can bring a shotgun side-arm sword handle regardless.

Anywho, those are my thoughts. Nothing set in stone yet. Suggestions?

EDIT: side question, and off topic: Does the AT-12 Raider get the weight glitch with heavy weapon mods? and can you equip both mods and get this glitch, or just one?

IIRC the Raider does not get the glitch, and it only works with one attachment

Checked on it, it works with the Raider and apparently with two attachments :D 0/2

There is a way of resetting the weight (=your loadout gets heavier) when someone joins your lobby, I don't remeber how it worked exactly

Only take TC to 5 maybe? You don't need the AR damage bonus when you're using a Claymoar with Omni-Blade :P

I have nt think about it, but if U want to melee, i wld keep chain OVLD (even level 6), and go 4 in cloak + shotgun and omniblade

Raider get the glitch but i often have bad surprise with the glitch in full lobby. U better check in lobby if the glitch applies. I dont think putting both weigted mod change anything to the glitch wkng or not.

You need to take cloak to 5 to get that 50% melee damage bonus ... if you're gonna go melee, you may as well go FULL PUNCHY POWAH! ;)

That's why an AR is not good for a melee build, hence the build is pretty simple, imho.

http://kalence.drupa...75!!..W5!C39A8G is what I'd recommend (not the Wraith, the build and gear+at least the omniblade), no need for level 6 stim pack, 1200 shields + cloak are plenty.

However if you really insist in trying an AR build you have to cut something, the least useful is the last rank of the passives, that you can replace with the cloak extra bonus (rank 6), but that way you wouldn't be able to oneshot shielded mooks, unless you overload them first.

6/3/6/5/6

EDIT: Saboteur is good at meleeing, but he doesn't have stimpacks, which is a huge disadvantage, imho.

For a melee build on any kit, the Shotgun's Omni-blade is pretty much mandatory due to it being a multiplicative damage buff which means you can skip out on rank 6 Tactical Cloak.

After that I'd probably start dropping ranks in Stim Packs. The rank 6 melee damage bonus is only 300 melee damage and not really worth keeping Stim Packs near a 100% up time just to have.

The build I came up with is 5/3/6/6/6.

As far as the Armiger Turians go, I do have to say that I like the Havoc in a melee better than the Ghost or Saboteur. Mainly for the Havoc strike/Heavy Melee combo.

I ran that quite a few times, but melee is so less efficient than a claymore shot ...

Ture that, but either the mook is dead with the shot, either it s dead faster with a second shot than with a melee :). Then I put no fitness in it :)

....wait, you actually have to assign points on the TGI?

I thought it just worked?

That's too much effort.

but you get DR while you melee, instead while you reload you don't, you can always reload cancel with heavy melee, killing the mook, getting DR, and sparing a claymore shot for something else.

Win/win.

But even no fitness is totally legit.

I'm talking about the Havoc though, so I'm a bit off topic.

D'oh, I forgot it's multiplicative... Yeah that's pretty obvious. That basically makes it better than ARs and rank 6 sins combined right there.
I love the claymore too much. Most of my infiltrators use it.
Yeah, I think you got the nail on the head for me. I mean, I could always go with raider because it's an even cost range shotgun than claymore. And I can pack a javelin as a sidearm when I don't want to charge into that massive mob : D

Cyonan, can you clarify the Raider question for me? In the past, the weight glitch has worked sometimes, and sometimes not.

Also, my Havoc and Saboteur are specd for melee. xD

The AT-12 is part of the base game files even if it was included into MP later on, so it falls under the category of weight increase from mods not working on it. I use it on a lot of my melee kits, since the accuracy isn't an issue at that range.

But why is it that it sometimes doesn't work? I've had situations (with Vanguards and stuff) where it wouldn't work, and I'd leave, get into a new lobby, and then it would work. I've even had games where it stopped working mid-game and my cooldowns suddenly got brutal. (PS3, if that matters?)

A good gun for a melee TGI might be the crusader.

It doesn't need AP or a smart choke, allowing the use of the damage barrel and omni-blade,

Its a launch era gun which means it can weight glitch the omni-blade,

Its a long range weapon that can be combined with overload to 1HK shielded mooks across hydra if needed (hack objectives for example) like a black widow SI does,

The stagger from overload helps fix the aiming issues caused by the weird time-warping bullets the crusader fires,

Turian passives even help control the mild recoil.

The melee QFI with crusader, plays in a similar manner, so if you're familiar with that you know what to expect.

A slightly modified version of Mighty Omnibutton's build:http://kalence.drupa...33W53343!C3998G

I swapped the head-shot evo for the power damage evo because it's unnecessary on a crusader, almost anything that can take full head-shot damage without a 1.4X cap will die with or without the evo, so the extra shield strip is more valuable.  On gold, anyway, I wouldn't know about platinum.

Keep the head-shot evo If you use a claymore instead because not every pellet will hit the head, so it can make the difference between getting 1HK's or not.

Good thought on the Crusader there, actually.

With that power damage evo, you can actually go full chain and still strip a gold phantom's shield with a single casting, for what it's worth.

The cool thing (I guess, because I hated it at the time) is that my Crusader is VIII (I haven't even played for 6 months). So when I can finally get back to playing, I will try out the crusader.

So this is the build I am sort of looking at right now. http://kalence.drupa...B82575!!!C39A8G

I'm sticking with the headshot modifier because I may frequently switch to Claymoar, or Raider because Claymoar and Raider. If I take either of those with me, I'm probably also packing a Javelin because Javelin.

I think it's pretty obvious what my three favorite weapons are :P

It also doesn't help that Harrier is boring, and my PPR and Lancer are really low levels :( I DONT EVEN HAVE a Venom.

If its any consolation, there's no accounting for the RNG- the PPR was my final UR to unlock, and a month or two later after a very lucky run its now my second highest UR at VII (behind Wraith and Talon which are tied at VIII). To put this into perspective, I got seven PPRs without seeing a Harrier, Typhoon, BW, Indra, and probably a few more. Not saying this will happen to you, but it could- its all a matter of hot and cold streaks, really. (And the great thing about finally having an upgraded PPR is I don't have to mess around with that Harrier ammo-box-humping nonsense... May the PPR set you free!)

My Javelin did that. I think I got 3 in a row. Scorpion also did that. Meanwhile, my Wraith, Talon, and Black Widow are toiling around 1 and 2.

My Saber did that very early on. It was at VI before I had more than half a dozen different UR weapons.

Yeah, I got two Javelins in two Arsenal packs like a week ago. That put a big smile on my face. But ugh, having Wraith and Talon stuck at low level must hurt- my sympathies. I probably use the Wraith on like 70% of my kits.

Lol... I was actually doing the Disciple challenge earlier today. Its pretty deadly with a HVB vs cerberus... On silver.

Joking aside, its not that bad- its super lightweight, staggers reliably, and does more damage than the Katana/Scimitar/Eviscerator... its just horribly, turribly, laughably outclassed by all the other Rare shotguns (although, this is slightly deceiving in that the Rare shotguns are actually some of the very best weapons in the game, better than many Ultra Rares- the Raider, Reegar, and Piranha are among the tops DPS weapons overall, and the Claymore is just... well, the Claymore).
