So, I've finally gotten around to playing the game on PC and I'm having some trouble with my party - They never seem to want to attack anyone in combat. They just stand there in place, picking their noses. Any solutions to this?
Party won't attack

You might've accidentally ordered them to hold position. There should be a button underneath the character portraits that looks like a hand - use that to toggle between "Hold position/Move freely."

No, that's the problem, I haven't. Regardless, they won't move without me having to switch to each of them and tell them to do the bleeding obvious.

What about tactics? I'm actually not sure what happens if you disable tactics completely.. it might cause them to do that.

Disabled tactics will definitely result in companions not fighting, even when attacked.
(RIP test!Alistair, test!Daveth, and test!Jory. You died well, and you died For Science!

Yes, they need to be aggressive. If you have them as defensive, they will stand next to the warden and wait for you to start attacking an enemy (unless the enemy is on top of you), then they will start fighting. I keep Alistair and Dog as defensive, Zevran aggressive, Leliana Aggressive, Sten defensive and Oghren aggressive. The mages are ranged and defensive, but they will start attacking long before anyone else. It's all in the tactics. I believe this statement to be true to the best of my knowledge (which is a shallow pond) ![]()

Just curious-why do you have Sten on defensive and Oghren on Agressive? They're both two handed warriors.

I use Oghren as a berserker, Sten as Reaver. Its just the way I set them up. I actually don't use either of them very much, especially if I'm playing a warrior. The first time I played the game, I never used Sten at all. So when we got to the final battle, he had no weapon or armor and he had 20+ level ups that I never did. There he was punching the darkspawn with his fists in his old clothes ![]()
