Except it never was purely a shooting game.

 

With the restructuring of power mechanics from ME1 through to now, and the expansion of melee mechanics, it's a natural shift.

The Krysae Electric Slash build is fun to play. 

 

Also Venom is great on her.

Well you can throw the Shurikin as I hear ninjas impale people with them.

I use the Pirahna and skip Electric Slash. Never used her as a sniper because she has a sword.

Arc Pistol, it's your replacement Sniper for a melee build.

5/3/6/6/6 is what I use, full melee tree, full weapon damage in passives.

Incendiary ammo, Power amp and Geth Scanner. Strength Enhancer for Gold and below, Pistol amp for Platinum.

I use the Pirahna and skip Electric Slash. Never used her as a sniper because she has a sword.

 

I use either the Piranha or Wraith, with OmniBlade- I skip rank 6 on her passives to put the first 3 ranks into ES, but honestly, I go entire matches without using it so next time I spec her I'll likely just skip it entirely.

Why not use Hydraulic Joints instead of Geth Scanner just out of curiosity?

I like the Wraith best on the Shadow.  The GPS is good too.  I could see the Venom being good, but I'm not good with the Venom.  Pistols like the Arc Pistol, Paladin, and Talon work really well too.  I have also tried a "combo" melee and sniper build with the Talon + Indra or Valiant, and it worked pretty well.
