Wait. If there's no DLC companion, does that mean....

I do not see any problem here. Talis was a good example of the way to introduce companions without including them in the main story. Character problems aside - the idea is pefect. And they repeated it in Omega DLC - worked fine as well.

So "no-DLC" companions can be read as "no permanent DLC companions".

So what are the chances of seeing another DLC like Awakening? Or with a game this massive and with so many variables, has it made it all the harder to implement? Would people be correct in saying that if it were completely separate, it would make things easier?

Awakening is disjoint from Origins.  Something like that is easier to work with.

Given that the last expansion was cancelled, and traditional expansion packs seem to have dipped in popularity compared to producing smaller DLC modules, should we hold out hope for an official XPack for Inquisition?

I *loved* what Awakening was able to do to expand on Origins - it was one of my favourite pieces of content in that entire game - and it'd be a shame if the notion of a large experience was not in vogue any more. As much as I liked what Bioware did with DA2's DLC (and Mass Effect's, even), there's something to be said for having one hefty expansion as opposed to three or four smaller DLCs.

Goddess, Sebastian was such a tool.

However, I think i'm in the minority but I actually liked some of the "DLC" characters.  Shale, Kasumi, and Zaeed were awesome but I understand how people were ticked about the Prothean being DLC.

I actually felt Javik should've been like Zaeed, new game purchase DLC.

As for Dragon Age DLC Companions, I think Javik and Shale has sorta set a high standard for how DLC characters should be and anything less has become sorta disappointing. I like Tallis but her DLC was less memorable and I was disappointed she wasn't a usable character after you did that DLC.

I don't know if the plans are to do a larger style, Awakenings themed expansion or not.

I imagine if the game is absurdly successful, the chances are probably greater ;)  (like most things really haha)

I really don't think you are in the minority.  If there ever was a case for a vocal minority it is on this topic.

I don't doubt it, though admittedly I wouldn't complain if we saw another expansion pack that took us somewhere we hadn't already been, like Tevinter. Perhaps for immersion's sake, if it ended up being in the main game, it could be a covert mission. It would definitely explain why the populace didn't know any of the goings on.

I want another female LI. Human rouge or mage would be cool.

Honestly, I'd much prefer sth like Awakening to DLC characters. DLC characters always give me the strange feeling that they were cut off from retail version of the game so that they can milk more money from us. If I'm going to pay for a DLC, I hope it's some interesting story related to the main game, like the famous LoSB DLC from ME2.

Never has there been a more wretched hive of scum and villainy!

So the only way to get extra paid for characters would either to have the files in the game and accessed when the DLC is paid for, an expansion pack like Awakenings, DLC where the extra character is only available for it instead of the entire game, or just to do like Bioware did with Zaeed and Kasumi and limit the real dialogue to the missions (the only downside of those two characters).

Out of all of those I think having the files in the game and accessed when the DLC is paid for would be the best option to have a real fleshed out character but then we'd have another Crusade against Day 1 DLC (which is why we can't have nice things.).

Kasumi was in fact on the disc, all the dlc did was give you her playable modal, quest and room. But things like the suicide mission role and all that was already on and disc and you where able to get by changing a few IDs. Not as bad as Javik which was clearly cut from the game, after all if he was truly dlc and there just needed to be some data for dlc to work, NOT everything would be on the disc except for his mission and weapon.

Also there is no crusade against day one dlc. People hate day one dlc because they hate buying a unfinished product then being asked to pay extra money. Shale is a unique case and was in fact free if you bought a new copy of DAO. Kasumi, Javik and Seb which where clearly cut and made into dlc don't have that luxury, it's a cash in. You can blame Capcom for this really.

Well I got Sebastian for free.  It was a pre-order incentive.  But I get why people don't like day 1 DLC that is like the Javik dlc, because it was clearly cut. But then again I got him for "free" as well so maybe that's why my opinion is different?

If they were to make Javik like Kasumi/Zaeed where there was no real interaction beyond the meeting and their missions then I'd been ticked.  The fact that Javik was a full party member with dialogue actually made him worth it. In order to take the sting off him being cut and Day 1 dlc, he shouldn't have costed much or should've been free to those that didn't buy the CE.

I'm kind of bummed that there will be only 9 party members.

We'll still have story-related DLC I'm sure.

I think 9 companions are enough. I hate going to the party screen and having trouble deciding which party members to take. I feel as though I'd be missing out on something if I take one companion over another. That was one of the main problems I had in Mass Effect 2.

The problem with ME2 characters was that they were pretty much the same.

Hopefully the 9 companions will be diverse and not be as generic. :)

i dont mind adding new characters, but do it like MOA in DA2... just have them there to enhance that story, not the overall story...  otherwise it feels like they ripped us off by leaving a character out of the main game and adding them later for a quick buck
