This month's challenge is "Orcs/Half-orcs":

Let's get some new stuff for the iconic evil foes of elves and dwarves. Additional orc models, new orc weapons (melee, ranged, siege), orcish armor and helms for PCs to wear, new orcish and half-orcish body parts for PC/NPC half-orcs (male and female, and new heads are sorely lacking compared to elves, dwarves, etc.), placeable orcish structures and objects, orc-themed spells, orcish magical and mundane items, orcish artworks, recordings of orc love ballads (well, maybe not this one), or whatever else might flesh out orcs of various worlds.

This theme was suggested by MannyJabrielle.

Guidelines:

  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine.  Just remember that NWN textures must have dimensions in powers of 2 (2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.).
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome. Don't be afraid, just try, you'll be surprised!
  • "Custom Content" includes many sorts of things: models, scripts, prefabs (areas, items, creatures, conversations, quests, etc.), sounds, portraits, or anything else new for the game.
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to NWNCCCMakers@gmail.com (or a non-Vault link provided) by May 1st, 2014. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too. ;-)

Somethings you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:

  • 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot from in game for use on the vault page (this also gives me hints on how to display the new goodie). Formats: .bmp, .jpg, .png, or .tga
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goodie. Placeables and monsters should include a portrait.
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goodie.
  • Any credits you would like listed.
  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
  • Also if you would like an invite to the CC Makers group, send Rolo Kipp a friend invite. The group is nothing spectacular, mostly just documentation on 2da lines.
  • If you are doing tileset content, *please* let me know ahead of time so I can get you the set and itp files to work with. I’m horrible at merging those so this bit you will need to provide.

Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity, and surprise!

This thread is for all sorts of discussion about this month's theme: ideas for things to make, questions/concerns, announcement of what you intend to make, screenshots of work in progress and/or finished projects.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here.
When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge. We'll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

And finally, you can:

Submit theme suggestions.
Vote for May's theme.
Email content to: NWNCCCMakers@gmail.com

Some Ideas:

Orogs & Neo-orogs

Orog generic D&D 3.5

Gristlegape_and_the_Ankheg_-_Jim_Pavelec

Orog Forgotten Realms

orcneoor.gif

Neo-Orog

An Orog is a crossbreed between a male orc and a female ogre. Orogs usually live among orcs; they are stronger, more intelligent, and more highly disciplined than typical orcs.

Variants on the orog include the neo-orog and the ogrillon. The neo-orog is a specific orc-ogre crossbreed created by the Red Wizards of Thay to be used as elite soldiers. The ogrillion is the brutish, armor-skinned offspring of a female orc and a male ogre.

In the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, orogs were an orc tribe who became cut off from their mountain home after a great attack into the civilized world, they eventually found a way into the Underdark and hid from their Elven and human enemies. They remained in the Underdark for thousands of years, fighting deniziens of that terrible realm all the time. Eventually they became superior in strength and personality to normal mountain orcs.

Perhaps a roughly built wooden watchtower with orcish symbols?

Soooo many inspiration images through Google image search for "orc", "orcish", and "half orc".  Lots of fodder there for making new art assets.

For those more interested in doing prefab item/NPC/etc. work... How about a collection of orc-made everyday objects PCs might encounter, or a series of books describing the lineage of a great orc chieftain and his ancestors? Maybe use various tilesets and placeables to lay out different orcish villages and forts.  Flesh out a bunch of NPC orcs and half-orcs that PCs may encounter (and not necessarily for PCs to just kill off as quickly as possible).  Make some objects that are normally ordinary, but when used by someone with orcish blood (orcs and half-orcs) such items manifest magic (via temporary item properties when equipped).

In my own PW, the orcs are just as smart as the average human population, but they just have a much more brutal society.  Think "TNG Klingons" without any of that pesky "honor" crap to deal with.  Maybe come up with your own spin on what orcs are like to make them different than "standard" orcs, yet still obviously "orcs".

How about new spells for orcish spellcasters that specifically harm their traditional enemies (elves and dwarves)?  Maybe a spell called wrath of the clans that sends all orcs & half-orcs in the area of effect into a rage similar to a barbarian?

Perhaps some particularly wily orcish spellcaster has even been enchanting captured elven/dwarven items with powerful curses, then leaving the objects to be found by their foes.

So many options.  I might even find time to contribute this month.

Orogs and ogrillions are wonderful :D.

Issig's half-ogres are a great base to work with, but they're lacking the heads that would make for appropriate orogs and ogrillions.

Im joining the challenge. My plan is a script set for creature-style totems that will give bonuses to nearby allies (Path of Exile idea).

However, all I can do is scripting, I will need a model(s) if someone can provide (alternatively there is one chult totem on vault that I will use as for working draft).

Some more ideas and suggestions:

- inventory totem icons (either to work as charms in diablo or with activate power to raise the totem on the ground)?

- drums, maybe something like the "kodo beast" from Warcraft 3 or something like that? Or perhaps only an inventory icon again that will act like musical intrument simply giving some combat benefit.

- more halforc tribal NPC models like from the OC

- or perhaps a new PC body parts with different tatoo style

My personal favorite is Pox from the movie Legend. Something about pig-faced goblinoids that feels archetypal or primal.

Thought so. <move along>

I will be contributing one or more wooden shield variants, based on BigfootNZ's savage shields.  They will have elf ears nailed to them as trophies. :(

Or the classic Beast from Beauty and the Beast.

Project Gutenberg doesn't allow hot links, but you can copy their public domain images to a new site, then link to it.

Sadly, hot links are open to malicious bandwidth theft these days.

This heads are a conversion for NWN, from a Morrowind, orc's heads, MOD:

Barabus' Orcs.

Barabus%20orcs%20conversion.jpg

Those heads looks very good for Orcs or half-orcs, and the original author have alowwed their use in other MODs, as long as they have been credit for their work

<ribbing...>

Ok, one more because I just couldn't leave the rib cage out :-P

The rib cage will be a separate placeable with an ontooff anim of the ribs sliding up out of the ground.

The Moma idol will have an off state of ashes (no glow)in the brazier and an on state with animated glowing coals and screaming spirit smoke (Yes, there are faces in there).

How about some orc portraits?  (The right most two in the middle row not included.... can't remember if those were ones I made into nwn sized portraits or ones that got thrown into my project folder on accident)

portra10.jpg

Got a pair of orc head models, an axe, and some other minor bits, but not sure if I'll have them done in time given my training schedule this month

The two main demi-gods of the true orcs of Amethyst are Po-po Sky-father and Moma Earth-mother.

Here's another rough...

<digging...>

The creation myth for the Amethyst orcs (which is an incredibly long poetic eda) has the origin of life starting with the Big Bang... And Po-po's thunderbolts feature prominently in the Sky-father overcoming Moma's... Er, maidenly resistance.
The two are almost always portrayed as fighting ala The Honeymooners, and, in fact, the wedding customs, particularly for the higher ranks, can be quite dangerous... (Edit: to bystanders, just to be clear. The main participants take great care not to hurt each other. But audience participation is expected and rather... bloody)

Perhaps I'll transcribe some of that lore and ship it with the idols :-)

<...that funky beat>
