This is the biggest question I've been wondering. Where do the reapers come from or who made them? Does anyone know? I wonder if we ever find out. And if sovereign nearly killed everyone how is it even possible to beat a whole armada of reapers. Mass effect 3 is gonna be pretty interesting. Image IPB

they do it cause they have always done it. They are and always have been. The cycle is eternal, they simply are.

My Theory: The Reapers made themselves. They were the first galactic civilization, and they began to over-develop. They eventually realized that technology was the limit of achievement and that flesh and blood fell far beneath it. So they turned themselves progressively into machines, and made themselves more and more advanced until they no longer could. Couple that with hyper-intelligence brought on from centuries and centuries of existence, and you have your species of genocidal robots.

The most correct theory, i believe, would be that they were once (maybe ages and ages ago) a single species that evolved till becoming what they are now. Or maybe, they wer like the GETH once and evolved to what they are today.

1. We don't know who build them. By all estimates they are atleast millions of years old.
2.  Read the blurb about the new novel to see how humanity (Cerberus) think to counter this threat.
Here are some other ideas:
A. A computer virus
B. Mass effect kinetic fields do not protect from energy weapons
C. Like all races in the ME universe they are dependent on the Mass relay network. If you manage to destroy one of them then the Reapers could get stuck.

D. Get any old frigate to accelerate to a very high speed then invert the current on hte mass effect fields + crash into it = reaper destroyed.

For some context, the space shuttle sitting on the launchpad has a mass of 1,500 tonnes. Whipped up to 0.3 x the speed of light, it delivers 1.5 million megatonnes of energy to it's target, or about 150x the entire global nuclear arsenal combined.

Sovreign could shrug off railgun rounds, but they only had ~38 kilotonnes of energy, so a space shuttle going at .3 C would be somewhere in the vicinity of 9 to 10 million times more powerful.

So, make an unmanned frigate and smash it in at high speed. Problem solved. No complex solution necessary.

It turns out the reapers were made by this hyper advanced organic race that they revere (and is definitely not some ancient race of man) and they slaughter all because that is the will of the gods, and they will be taken on a great journey if they activate the sacred rings that their creators left...wait a second....

I believe that too. Maybe they were not the first, but they are ancient. ;)

Wasn't it the reapers who made the mass relay network? Or am I wrong?
