After I played the Citadel DLC, and uploaded my videos to youtube, I didn't touch ME3 or the previous games. I honestly see no point in replaying the trilogy with everything I disliked about it.

I like how Jack's and Miranda's boobies are mesh twins

That big ole rant from before was to prep me for this big essay I plan on writing to show to everyone in rl who somehow believes that I'm a cretin for not liking ME3

Oh yeah I've met those people

But The #1 thing that has made me constantly upset about ME3 even to this day, is that it's still universally worshipped by every game journalist and gamer out there. 9 and 10 star ratings on every published review.

Engages your mind and moves your heart!

I think the treatment of Jacob is still probably the single biggest character-writing misstep

like, who on the staff thought this was a remotely good idea, at any point?

who greenlit this?

Y U P
Can't even begin to describe how mad that made me. Citadel DLC didn't do a thing to help.

Jacob's treatment - much like Thane's death, which is billed as ~grand tragic writing~ or whatever - is also one of those things that nobody bothers to change in their fix-it fics or alternate ending proposals or whatever. Even in that one guy's zillion-page script, all he did was have Jacob go on the run from Cerberus and get killed.

What would you guys have done with some of these neglected characters?

Whenever I try and come up with better scenarios, it ends up driving me toward a complete rewrite of ME3 and parts of ME2/ME1, which I don't have time to do. Would be interested to see if anyone else has had more success.

Mm, a noble effort though. I would be interested in your take on ME3.

I don't think my meager writing skills would be up to the task tbh.

I actually kind of started doing that a while back. It was going to be a fanfic rewrite of ME2.

I wasn't satisfied with how Miranda's character was written. I feel like she could have been more. Still disappointed that Thane's loyalty mission is essentially carth onasi's. And I'm confused with Jacob as a whole

I would essentially rewrite Jacob's entire part in both ME2 and ME3. Just keep the personality. No gross father loyalty mission and more dialogue that doesn't just sound suggestive. No spontaneous girlfriend and pregnancy. That entire mission was so blah. I just feel like Jacob has always drawn the short straw. He deserves an overall more memorable and unoffensive inclusion into the games.

Kinda want him to look more his Galaxy-self too.

Though his actual face model is p. cute.

Dunno what happened in the process of digitising him.

Whenever I contemplate rewrites, I get hung up on things like whether to just drop the ultimately-terrible Cerberus arc entirely (Jacob and Miranda could possibly be adapted into operatives of a Systems Alliance intel arm or something) or to try and improve it

I'm reminded that I still have my signed and autographed ME: Galaxy iphone skin that I won years back.

I didn't have an iphone at the time.

True, true.
Though one of my favourite moments in ME2 is when Miranda told the Illusive Man to shove it. I suppose she could say the same to whoever gives her dumb orders.
I still kinda like the idea of Shepard going rogue in ME3, without Cerberus or the Alliance.
Gaining allies through their own means etc. etc.

I'm going to PAX East but not tomorrow since I don't have a pass.

Apparently tomorrow is when Bioware is hosting a panel with a few of the voice actors cosplaying as their characters

Apparently Keythe Farley will be there in a thane costume

I won't be there :(

What I would have liked to see with Thane in ME3 was that our decisions in ME2 mattered.

A lot of ME fans equate grim/tragic/sinister with good writing and happy/upbeat/cheerful with bad writing.

I go with the Corrupted Hanar quest, which should have been Thane's and the "anti-Thane lives" fans can still get their toxic does of tragic/grim/sinister.

So Thane tags along on the quest. He knows the soul name of the Hanar eliminating our need to find this data out the hard way. It's the Hanar that had him make his first kill at age 12 (here is the tragic element).

We have a show down: Thane, Hanar, and Shepard.

At some point the Hanar reveals the Drell are useless (echo Harbinger), they HAVE the cure for Keprals and always had it, and refuse to utilize it in an effort to cull the Drell population (hello, we told Thane the Hanar were using them as slaves!). They use the healthy young to do their dirty work (compact and public service) and let the old die off from Keprals (here is the sinister and grim element). The cure is a failsafe in case their numbers drop to low (the Hanar do need them).

Until now that is. Now with the reapers promising to prefect the Drell and Hanar, it is of no consequence.

Corrupt Hanar attempts to upload codes, compromising Kahje.

Thane attempts to halt it and:

If loyalty mission successfully completed he survives the console explosion and gets the cure as well as all the Drell + Kahje safe. If romanced you get a paramour achievement and he will email you letting you know he and Kolyat are safe, and they escape the citadel at the end.

If loyalty mission failed or not completed he dies+ Kahje safe.

You don't recruit him in ME2/ he dies in SM/or you fail to meet him at Huerta's-- Kahje is doomed with no Hanar/Drell assets.

Let Kirrahe shine in a showdown with Kai Leng and the Salarian counselor.

Let Kasumi help on Jacob's quest. If Jacob is unromanced they hook up.

I think that is a good idea for Thane.

They did some cool world-building and backstory for the Drell and Hanar in ME2: it seems like a waste not to do more with it

I wanna go to kahje.
But of course, that would involve Bioware having to come up with several different colour combinations of Thane's mesh to play the other drell we meet.

still disappointed in how drab Feron was when we met him

what happened to Comics Feron's skittle skin

Anway, yeah, irrespective of Thane's railroaded death being wasteful and bad, the whole coup situation really didn't have anything to do with him. The only narrative reason for him to be there was to make Kai Leng look cool by beating up the only other martial-arts guy in a martial-arts fight.

I think Thane needed something completely different, not just a better outcome there.

The opposite of impaling himself on a sword, preferably.

Impaling someone on their own sword?
