Anyway, Kai Leng is dumb and shouldn't exist, but I do kinda like the idea of Thane having to outstalk a bunch of stealth enemies in a set-piece at some point

there's a new Litho commemorating mass effect saga coming out soon and it looks kinda pretty bad:
way too murky
it looks like they saved it in jpeg

its dumb how clolsely associated garrus and wrex are with those weapons
#55
Posté 13 avril 2014 - 11:52
when was it decided that garrus was "the sniper" anyway
his big moments in ME1 were was pistol-related
he should have been the pistolero, if anything

the main things I thought is that he had a damage multiplier in his stats which technically made him have the highest dps of all characters
But why give him a sniper rifle? I gave him assault rifles.. only logical to do that.. dps > raw damage
Garrus dps
ash tank
wrex tank and debuffs
By making garrus a cop and his most distinctive scene emphasisng his marksmenship and fiery thirst for justice outside the prescribed boundaries of the law, the most immediate association would be a cowboy
but no.. Lets make him a snipe... because???
makes no sense...

Did anyone else think Shepard kinda got whiter as the games went along?
In ME1 there were various options that were seemingly intended specifically for nonwhite Sheps. Thicker, curvier nose and lip choices, high, almond-shaped eyes for Asian Sheps, etc. I seem to recall some of these being phased out in subsequent versions of the character creator, though I might be wrong
Like I don't remember the CC options in ME2 that well, but I know some of those were absent in revamped ME3 CC

yeah I noticed that
i think msotly they changed things to where.. like certain hairstyles seemed more ambigious in what hair texture they were
that seemed to change in each game..

I miss when this franchise was about pluralism

the whole approach I had with me1.. wouldve been great if that was supported
every had distinct conceptions of Shepard.. but everyone was lead down the same funnel..

another strange thing was that it gradually came to resemble typical MilSF political outlook - civilian authority is almost always weak and corrupt, military are virtuous exemplars of societal virtue - much more closely as the games went along.
It was always somewhat present - see Anderson/Udina distinction in ME1
then intensified in ME2, with the emphasis on the ineptitude/apathy of the Council and Alliance politics versus Ceberus's 'At least we get things done!" outlook.
then it just goes way overboard in ME3, where virtuous military leaders like Hackett, Anderson and Victus are looked to as fonts of wisdom and justice despite us being bizzarely in the dark with regards to their abilities and beliefs, whereas there is hardly an admirable or sympathetically-portrayed civilian leader to be found. With the exception of Koris, who must still redeem himself to both the quarians and the audience via feats of arms.

YES that was bizarre
maybe from the popularity of fps military style games? they kept trying to do a weird gears of war vibe too idk they were trying way hard to be like "WE'RE NOT JUST AN RPG FOR EXTREME NEEEEERDS come play with us"
but also i think they are simple minded and maybe not even aware of how much they were idealizing **** like that

what do you mean simple minded war and peace was their inspiration

masha do you feel like your slavic heart has a greater appreciation for the strange mix of crippling sentimentality and determined stoicism that seems to have been the main emotional expression of this videogame

i feel deep slavic resentment
and like, i know tolstoy and dostoyevsky are kinda popular in amurka but why?
well actually i can imagine why people would like jolly religious self flagellation but why tolstoy?

I used to think they were being really pro-military and pro-human/nationalist 'cause that's the normal thing to go I guess, but they're Canadian???
I admit I don't know much about the Canadian military but what are they doing trying to reach America levels of insane militarism and nationalism for the Alliance?
#72
Posté 15 avril 2014 - 07:43
but on the other hand if you think about it really hard it does make so much sense that mac likes tolstoy's boring white ass poop

Oh yeah I always thought it was odd even though I tried to buy into it at first.

I was always bothered by how super human-centric all of ME is. It wasn't that bad in me1 because even the volus caught the bullshit on how humans were being considered a seat on the council even though they've only been around for like 26 years?
I was stupidly disgusted with me2 and beyond when suddenly humans become the MVP species of the hour over everyone else
Is humanism complex a thing now?

not just any complex
a humanism complex!
