Spirits are based on positive concepts, while demons are based on negative concepts. They are fundamentally different in every way except living in the Fade.

And physiology, and the fact that they can possess people, and the fact that they can hurt people.

No that doesn't prove any difference. Also Grace was intact.

No she wasn't

Positive and negative concepts are subjective. Next thing you'll be talking about the magical power of love that can heal the taint away or something, those things belong in fairy tales.

I'm really not surprised by your comment, so there's really no reason for anybody to continue a discussion with you

Well indeed, but to give an analogy, it's like saying there's no difference between a serial killer and a law abiding junior marketing exercutive because they're both human. On one level you are completely correct, but I know who I'd rather be stuck in a lift with.

You can't deny that every serial killer and law abiding citizen is a different human. You can get on bad terms with a law abiding citizen as well as genuinely become best friends with a serial killer.

Opinions. Unfortunately not enough is set in stone for a bias-less objective conversation.

I wouldn't mind agreeing to let a demon possess you as a non-standard game over.

That was exactly what I was thinking.

My point is more that, whether you consider 'spirits' and 'demons' to be different entities may simply depend on whether you're defining different as meaning different species or different behaviour.

Leaving aside the classification of spirits, demons and any other body possessing entities that might be lurking out there. I still like the idea our character is merged with one from the get go. I think it makes a decent amount of sense given the story we've heard so far.

Different behavior.

More on the topic - some people for some reason think that if an abomination engages in anti-social behavior it automatically means that the demon has taken over the host, when really it can just as easily be the host is anti-social to begin with and they agree on things with the demon, and the host is intact. Like Cassidy/Carnage from spider man.

As long as it was optional.  I don't play a lot of mages but when I do, I'd rather not be forced to be an abomination/possessed to start with.  I'm happy for players having more choices in their RP.  Just don't force those of us that wouldn't want this option forced upon us.  Also, this wouldn't work if all players had to start out that way.  It wouldn't make sense for my Lady Cadash (read: dwarf) rogue in Inquisition to start off with a Spirit inside of her.

Ah, no, I'm afraid I don't  mean optional. More along the lines that someone else mentioned earlier. Now this is based on my memory so could well be wrong, but isn't our character the sole survivor of some event involving a tear in the fade? Which means there's probably some reason why they survived beyond luck. I know there's any number of explanations that could be cobbled together, but I like the involuntary mind meld with some spirit.

I'm going to be blunt then.  I wouldn't buy or even play that game at all.  I am down with having more options, but not being forced into that.  <_<

Lady Cadash, rogue, smartass...and Spirit possessed?  Yeah...no.

To be fair aren't we always force into something for the plot to work in the first place?

You see to me it's no different to the ways certain aspects of characters have been defined in previous Bioware games such as Baldur's Gate and KOTOR. In fact that's probably what makes me speculate in that kind of direction, they have form.

As you say though, it might not make sense with certain potential characters such as dwarves, I have no idea if they even could be possessed! If not then obviously it makes no sense at all.

That isn't my point.  I would be upset if I was forced from the beginning to be an abomination and/or Spirit possessed.  I have strong feelings against being either, and the idea seemed just hooky to me.  I enjoy being the Designated Hero, I personally would not enjoy being forced to play something I hate.   No, I don't think Wynne or Eve are bad people, but they are the rarest of exceptions.

If someone wants to be forced to be an abomination, they can have it.  I wouldn't pay or play it myself.  Oh and this isn't BG or KOTOR, this is Dragon Age.  While some of the same team is apart of all those series, most of them are completely different teams.  Plus, a black/white morality system not only has never been apart of DA, it isn't going to happen.  The devs have said over and over again that they want the morality to remain as grey as possible.  That's part of the reason why they did not use an alignment system of Good-Evil/Light-Dark Side.

So if you guys want it, knock yourself out.  I'll do what I did with future Witcher games (only bought the first one and I was so disgusted I'm about to uninstall the POS) and keep my wallet closed if they made such a choice.

In the fade, not really. I have yet to see a genuinely benevolent demon or a genuinely malevolent spirit who is not a demon.

Why would mages want to leave their towers?

Both are utterly ridiculous and terrible ideas. Doesn't stop others from wanting them though.

More RP options are good.  Being forced into them is bad.  If folks want to become abominations, they should be able to.  Those that prefer to kill most abominations on sight should not have to be something they hate.

Emissary, you're living way way too much to your nickname today hun. :P
