Hey everyone, I'm hoping you can help me deal with some OCD!

In my youth (the 1980s), I remember seeing an animated film (I think it was anime, but I'm not 100% sure) that was a racing movie where it was (I think) cross country as opposed to on a specific track.  I don't believe it was a "death rally" in that it was a race to a finish line (not to the death), and it seemed like there were a variety of acceptable vehicle types.

There are two scenes that I vaguely recall:

One was a a vehicle that basically started hovering and spinning very, very quickly, using his/her vehicle as a giant drill to burrow through a mountain for a shortcut.

The other (and I'm hoping it was even from the same show!) was a racer in a boat that gets crushed between two object... either other boats or possibly torpedoes (this memory is a bit hazier than the previous).

I'd peg it as sort of the late 70s to mid 80s animation style.  I think it was a movie (it seemed longish), but maybe it was an episode of a particular show (or even a series).

Thanks!

Allan

I don't thiiiiiiiiiiink so (taking a quick peek at Wacky Races).

A friend suggested maybe a MASK episode (which I did see sporadic episodes of), and watching one that was a bit of a race makes me go "Hmmm, this seems close"

The animation style seems close, but it's possible I'm getting some interference in my memory lol.

Haha.  This is silly but fun XD

Is it perhaps Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors?

A friend of mine suggested Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors too.  I'll have to look at some footage from the actual show.  Alas haha.

Thanks though!

My concern is that it might be something from the 70s that I just didn't watch until years after it came out.

I'm kinda tempted to say Scooby Doo and the Reluctant Werewolf, but that's only just to cover all the bases.

While it isn't the film you're looking for, it does remind me of a segment released as a film, which I particularly loved a lot as a child, called Laff-a-lympics. The film is a spoof based on the Olympics feat. characters, crossing over, from all of Hanna-Barbera old shows competing against each other in several different sport disciplines. It also contained absurd vehicles so that's why I thought of it.

Pole Position? Mask?

Well, maybe it´s the time bokan OVA that was released in north america. One one them, focusing on the villains, was with a race.

It wasn't THE episode I was thinking of, but MASK's animation style really struck a familiar chord.  Though I do remember watching MASK so.... hahaha.

Could be this one? It´s from 1993, but he said he saw it in the 80s. Maybe it´s another episode from a previous time bokan series.   Subbed version

If it was not mask, then it must be pole position.

Who can forget this opening?

Watching the first episode of Pole Position makes it probably the most likely candidate at this point!  I'll have to watch these sometime XD

Hope so, cuz my next guess was going to be "gobots war of the rock lords", and I'd hate you forever for having any memory of that horrific steamy pile of film. Only someone truly evil would unleash work like that on to the youth of a generation, and remind ppl of it...

Anyone here want to post this link in the my little pony thread?
