Only multiplatform gamers are true gamers. Everyone else are just hopeless ideologues.

Not sure what the argument is all about...pc's will always be superior to consoles. The tech existing within both the ps4/xbox1 systems are already considered to be dated. It goes without saying that while you can buy a gaming pc or build one, it will cost you considerably more. Consoles at it's heart are still gaming machines trying to be the jack of all trades. I have a pc for other stuff than gaming, surfing the net, paying bills, ordering items online etc. But when i just want to game thats what the consoles are for and ultimately they are just more convienient and have a bigger library of games to choose from.

Both platforms are doing completely different things, so trying to make comparisons is really kinda questionable. As far as Sony goes, I just don't seee anything interesting at the moment and quite honestly, i don't see anything from neither Sony or MS. except a bunch of FPS's and i actually hate those. I will say that while Sony will eventually drop the next Uncharted/God of War/Last of Us, they need a killer app along the lines of Titanfall...something new and fresh. Maybe they will reveal something at E3, but i'm not sure what that might be.

Having a ton of support from indie games are good, but they are not systems sellers nor do they define your system. "second son" was ok but it's nothing like what Titanfall has been for the xbox1. I willbe waiting a long time before i get a ps4, simply because there are no games for it and $400 is still pretty steep to be paying for a console. I still think the ps3/360 still has a few good years left in them as both platforms are still churning out some incredible visuals. This latest gen was forced too early i believe. Last gen could've gone on for a few more years, then you truly would have seen a difference in the jump in quality from the next gen systems, right now that jump is barely noticeable.

And lets not forget the stunt that MS almost tried to pull with it's restrictive policies...they was really trying to control every aspect of your gaming habits...you couldn't lend friends your games? or they wouldn't play on their system even tho they had an xbox system? complete garbage and MS was trying to shove that s**t down your throat with a smile....and incredibly some people was actually happy with that...faithful blind sheep...

I don't overly want a PS4 so i won't be going to buy one to help a company i have personal distaste for avoid bankruptcy.

How is it even possible to compare a console to a PC?

How is it even possible to compare a console to a PC?

Comparable tech for the most part?

I mean similar performance as well unless if you really trick a PC out, the only thing the PC by default has an advantage in is modablity.

The system is 400 bucks here in the states. I don't know about UK or the rest of the world.

That is cheap, I think both next gen consoles are cheap.

(...)

All said and done, he dropped around 800 bucks to join the "PC master race".

like I said, "bang for your buck" you can't beat PS4.

This is not a very accurate comparison. Let's put aside, for a moment, the fact that PCs can be used for a lot more than just gaming. $400 is not the real price of the PS4 because Sony also receives royalties for every game sold for the PS4 not to mention there's also the cost of the subscription service since it's the only way to play multiplayer (this is free on PC by the way). So, let's do some math.

This is from a relatively old article from Kotaku so the percentages may have varied but they'll do for this example:

18j3z1b9en48ajpg.jpg

According to the graph, Sony receives $7 for every $60 you pay for a PS4 game. Let us also remember you have to pay a $50 subscription for a year of online multiplayer (among other perks). So, if you only were to buy a single game in 2014 with a multiplayer component, you'd end up paying an additional $57. Let me stop you right here and remind you that the cost of a PC game does not include platform royalties (Microsoft doesn't take royalties for games released on Windows) so the argument "but PC gamers also buy games" is moot in this example. You could, however, argue that you're not really paying $57, at least not 2013-valued* $57, and you'd be right. In that case, assuming an average inflation value of 1.67% for the year 2014, you'd actually be paying 55 2013-valued US Dollars. Naturally, if you were to buy more than one game, you'd have to add $6.88 for each game you bought, or $7 if you want to keep it simple.

The math gets a bit more complicated if you're looking at a 10-year life-cycle because: 1) if it's difficult to predict inflation a year from now, imagine ten years from now; and 2) you need to calculate the cumulative inflation for each year. Your assertion that buying a PC is actually more expensive than buying a PS4 would benefit from an ever-increasing inflation rate. For instance, let's assume for a second that there will be no inflation from 2014 to 2024 (a ludicrous thought but whatever). In that case, given the previous conditions (paying for a yearly subscription and buying a single game every year) you'd end up paying Sony $1016 2013-valued. If, on the other hand, you assume inflation will rise .2% every year (1.87, 2.07, 2.27, ...), you'd end up paying Sony $932 2013-valued.

In conclusion, what Sony's doing with the price of the PS4 is what we already knew: they're selling at a loss now because they expect to recoup their expenses later with subscriptions and games. They are, in a way, financing your purchase of their console. But let's not fool ourselves because they will recoup their expenses and then some. Do you really only buy a single game per year? I very much doubt it. Of course, my analysis isn't exactly in-depth and doesn't take into account the used-games market for one (in which case you'd still have to pay the subscription fee and the overall cost of the console in its 10-year lifecycle would still be over $800 2013-valued).

In the end, it all comes down to your time horizon and the baseline which you're using to compare the two.

*I'm using 2013 as the reference year because it was the year the PS4 was released.

EDIT: By the way, if my math is wrong, please let me know.

You don't have to pay for online with the ps4, it works perfectly fine without it.

Once again Flux is acting up -- So allow me to say that the phase PS4 is currently going through is not new, or surprising, simply look back at the starter years for PS3. If anything is going to kill PS4 or consoles, or whatever, then it'll probably be when th next generation arrives, which I wouldn't find surprising. Disregarding that, It'll take time before the titles that matter actually arrives. One higher-up leaving Naughty Dog isn't going to change jack. In fact, I was more sad to see Amy Hennig go since she actually made a greater impact with the Jak franchise and Uncharted. Hopefully she'll find work again soon she's a talented one.

Steam may be crap but you can get good deals on games compared to consoles. Hell, I even got Gmod for $2.49 which is a steal.

Uh give me the budget and time frame they gave the dev team for steam?

And i would come up with a better actually workable interface.

Namely because i wouldn't cut corners at every single level to save a dime.

I used to think so too, was forced to get Steam to play Fallout: New Vegas and Skyrim as Steam is required to play those games. I've gotten used to Steam over time, community is not bad in my experience also.

I have designed web browser interfaces in the past, its just always been private commission work, i never got asked to do anything to that scale.

So i don't know why i would skimp on cost when it wouldn't be my dime to begin with.

Seeing as XBLive is full of 7 year old narcissists, I agree about the Steam community being way better.

Haven't had much experience with PSN to learn whether or not this same sort of stuff happens on there.

But you don't have to play online. All game and console updates are free, and you also won't need to pay sony to play some mmo type games, like Final Fantasy XIV. For me a person who never plays online, I would never have to pay for online access as I don't need or want it. But I already do pay for PS+ because of the games you can rent each month.

At the moment the best online service is PS+ its far better than live. (that not counting pc stuff)
