Just started playing DAO for the first time and i'm on level 7 with my created character. What I don't get is why when I level up I can pick certain powers but in battle they are greyed out and I cannot use them but the other characters I can use them. All criteria required to use and assign the powers to a certain button are met but they just don't work. Any suggestions?

Do you have the correct weapons equipped? Dual weapons vs sword & shield vs two handed sword? Archer will be greyed out if you are using any melee weapons.

That might possibly be the problem. I didn't realize that certain weapons had to be with certain powers. So what weapons are dual capable and what weapons can be pared with a shield? I never saw anything that explains this.

when you go to inventory, look for daggers and one handed long swords. they can be paired, or one of them used with a shield. The great swords, mauls, big axes and such will say "two handed weapon" and cannot be used with another sword or shield.

You can only duel wield two handaxes/longswords if you have Dual Weapon Mastery.

That doesn't sound right. You should be able to use them any time.

In the off hand, you can only use a long sword or an ax in the off hand when the GW has Dual Weapon Mastery

Dual Weapon Mastery~Only a chosen few truly master the complicated art of fighting with two weapons, but the character is now among that elite company, able to wield full-sized weapons in both hands. Stamina costs for all dual-weapon talents are also reduced.

 

I never thought about two full sized weapons. I always used daggers, or a long sword/axe and a dagger.
