The Ebon Hawk :-) !
Mid-way through the game some guy tries to jack your ship because it's actually his and was stolen way back.

I'm Commander Shepard and This is My Favorite Ship In ths Galaxy. I know its a long name, but hey.
The new ship should have a neutral name. Bioware should name it after an animal (bird, fish or insect), a constellation or use a name from Greek mythology.
I suggest something like Hornet, Wasp, Orion, Pegasus or Cassiopeia.
SSV London
He was born in London...
" SSV Prometheus" or "SSV Cronos" or even "SSV Hudson"
SSV Titanic
What could possibly go wrong?
SSV Dialogue Wheel
SSV Solus or SSV Iwo Jima. Also liked SSV Bastogne. Any of those I think could work.
If intention is to support and enforce an image of united Earth, pretty sure it'd not be a great idea to have a ship broadcasting such a WW II reminder to humans and others. Of course, this makes Normandy one hell of a bad name too:p It implies Man is proud of his barbaric past of vast inner conflicts. If I were ruler of Earth in some intergalactic space opera, I'd name my war machines after things worth fighting for, stuff I'd claim seperates us from other races. Not after old battlefields of man vs man games.
The Aluminum Falcon.
The Vimy if its a pre-quel
The Okinawa if its a see-quel

I just don't buy some semi-utopian (relatively speaking) United Earth wanting to roll with such policy, traditions of 19th-21s century armies be damned. SSV Normandy is all well and good for getting them war juices flowing for English,American, well, Western player of ME games; We are all products of 20th century and all. How could such naming policy serve some Earth Alliance? What would Chinese,Indian,Russian,,Japanese funders think of most advanced Frigate carrying name drawing so deeply from nationalistic pride of selected few?
..Maybe Normandy doesn't refer to D-Day at all. Perhaps all Earth Frigates are named after various coastal areas of our planet!
I think reality would be something along the lines of SSV Blue Planet or SSV Unity etc. Safe and cheesy. Maybe use animals like several modern day armies do; SSV Dire Wolf or SSV Cougar or SSV Panther or SSV Tiger

While I understand your point, we know that Alliance frigates (as of ME3) are named after battles in human history. In addition to Normandy, there are frigates named Agincourt, Ain Jalut, Hastings, Iwo Jima, Leipzig, and Trafalgar. Alliance cruisers are all named after Earth cities (Budapest, Cairo, Cape Town, Jakarta, ect) , carriers are named after famous humans (Einstein, Newton, Benjamin Davis) and the dreadnoughts are named after mountains (Everest, Fuji, Kilimanjaro, Orizaba, ect)
^Even writers/authors are used for ship names as well. Most notably: the Hugo Gernsback in Mass Effect 2 if I remember correctly.
I think the first priority for ship names have to first: sound rather cool or beautifully meaningful. While most city names are nice I would understand why some people would stumble upon names such as SSV Cockburn or SSV Hooker (Cockburn is in Australia and Hooker is apparently a city in the USA).
Secondly, I think the name has to be able to, somewhat, reflect on the ship and what it represents/does.
The Anderson
The SSV Clusterfrack?
SSV PANTHEON ![]()
Or
SSV HUDSON
SSV VAN BUREN
SSV CARLILE
SSV BENEDICT
SSV TOWNSEND
SSV JESUS
Those are my hypothetical dogs' names. I'd get looks in the park when I'm looking for Jesus. "JESUS, WHERE ARE YOU?"
Jesus H. Christ (now where did I pluck that quote from?)
That made me laugh so hard...my insides hurt god damned ![]()
As for a name...why not use famous leaders (military and otherwise) and scientists for a change, like:
The Churchill or The von Clausewitz
