there is a basis, tervinter slave combtants, escaped slaves
....Not all of them have special abilities. Hell, I think Fenris is the only one we've seen so far, iirc.

You don't need lyrium to know martial arts,
you don't need 2 handed weapons to use lyrium either. In-fact if you free your arms, you will be able to discharge spirit energy from your hands, you don't need to know martial arts to do that either

You were talking about people with non-magic magic abilities.
So, you changed up the request?
It's mundanes who can kick people special ways now?
That. Against an ogre or dragon.
....Okay.
Squished.

You avoid my point. If you get rid of the weapons in your hands, and focus on synthesizing your body, and lyrium. You might be able to channel magic in ways no one had done. Since you are not a mage, you will be rocking magic anyway, and focusin also on physicl skills. You wont be helpless when your out of juice, since lyrium in your body draws it from the fade automatically.
As a lyrium ghost, and a martial artist, your fists can ignore armor, and penetrate/ go deep. You will be able to discharge magic anywhere easily, or cloak yourself in pure magic, while going ham. You could also become untouchable
So basically, you get hopped up on all sorts of crazy drugs and bash the shit out of everything with your bare hands.
Sounds like Friday night.

This... would be OP. As people have said before. Basically being untouchable, have insane armor penetration, and never running out of 'juice'?
Not to mention... How do you even know it would work like this? Do you have any examples of unarmed non-magic 'magic' martial artists from Dragon Age?

I know armed non magic, magic warriors from the dragon age.
Fenris- Could phase into things by becoming a lyrium ghost,
gained great defense stats from being a lyrium ghost,
could only discharge spirit energy around him that stunned opponents,
had high magic resistance,
was effective against mages, and fade creatures
Templars-- Had high mental, and spell resistance,
only professionals could discharge spirit energy
effective against mages and fade spirits
Spirit warriors-- draw upon fade energy with spirit's help
could gain great defense/ almost untouchable
could discharge spirit energy
effective against mages/fade creatures
-no magic resistances, cause they are exposed to the fade

One Rainbow Kitty said unarmed.
Two, Rainbow Kitty also said martial artists http://dictionary.re...se/martial arts.
Three, Lyrium etchings have not been perfected Fenris was the ONLY success we don't know how many tries it took Danarius to succeed who in their honestly right mind would go through such a thing which not only causes them so much pain that it causes memory loss or most likely would kill them?
Four, your idea is an Arcane Warrior on steroids.
Now, what I can see is an unarmed specialization for the warrior or rogue class: the pugilist. You can have fist weapons like brass knuckles or the cestus, and I think this can certainly be grounded in lore. I guarantee that there are fighting rings in Thedas somewhere. It's barbaric, bloody, and appeals to our base animal desires for physical combat.
I like this idea, specially with the rogue, an agile and strong warrior, but maybe weak to magic and ranged weapons. I would play this on a heartbeat.
I always wanted a class like the monks on D&D on Dragon Age.

Trying to reason with you is like trying to reason with the Star Child from Mass Effect!!
I am probably going to loose my last hairs if I keep this up aren't I....

Well judging by your posts people could say the same to you. You're ignoring what other people say and you write the answers to questions that they didn't ask.
As for my hair, it'll never fall out it knows its place. It's to be nice and fluffy sitting on my head.

well whats your question?
The only way I want to see a spirit monk in Dragon Age is if one visits us from a distant empire of jade.
It would be cool. Even without the lyrium bit Id love an unarmed monk type class in DA. Would it make total sense? No, but plenty of things that have been put in the combat don't make sense.

Read what Rainbow Kitty said again carefully. I don't have the time to respond.

Monk or priest or whatever you might want to call it has always been the least interesting specialisation in every fantasy RPG I have ever encountered.
I for one would not even touch that specialisation with a long stick... but everyone is enttitled to want stuff...
BioWare have already done this, and in an appropriate context: it's called Jade Empire. I wouldn't care to have any Jade Empire mixed with my Dragon Age, thanks. ![]()
The only monks in Thedas are equivalents of Catholic monks, ones who aren't trained in any kind of combat.
So, not, I don't see how kung-fu monks would make sense in DA2, also, unarmed often kinda sucks when it's just tacted on and doesn't fit.
