I got my Mother to create a femshep on my Xbox360 in 2012. She seemed to enjoy the creation tool. She said it was like paper dolls.

RIP Mom. (1-8-2013)

So sorry Massa.  Mine's been gone a long time, still miss her and dad.  Yeah, I can see her playing.

You know I think age has a lot to do with it. I think it has to do with the fact that we don't feel the need to be nice to everyone anymore. We've had to take enough s*** and sometimes we feel like dishing it out. And this is a way we can do it without hurting anyone. Like throwing that merc out the window. Or beating the hell out of Elias Kelham.

This thread needs a Justified gif.

no-law2.gif

not sure how I did that double quote thing.  Good show. Raylan fan here, I've always had a thing for his type of character. Though I do like Boyd too, Sort of the same as I like Loki.

For me, I am polite and my characters are polite for the most part, and not polite when I feel it's appropriate.  I've always been a - 50% of the people you meet won't like you, but that means the other 50% will

.   :) When I feel the need to lash out, and being semi normal I do get this feeling sometimes, I generally play games like Skyrim or Fall Out, and kill bandits and anyone who attacks me or I feel deserves to die.  But that merc deserved to die after what they did to the workers.

Well it took awhile, but Gloria's career is finally continuing!

Our session started with a round of character exposition by going around the Normandy and talking to all of the new squad members.

Opinions ranged.  Gloria likes Joker and Tali (the spunky teenager).  She's not sure if she trusts Wrex or Garrus to keep their guns in check over diplomacy.  Neither Ashley nor Kaidan were too talkative since we hadn't completed our first mission yet (Find Liara T'Soni).

My not remembering which system contained Therum ended up being a two-edged sword.  We landed on two worlds that were just side-quests and while that amounted to more XP that will be hard to come by with a player that is unable to run the combat herself, it also meant that mom had pretty much nothing to do for almost an hour.  Thankfully, it also means that we will have a reason to go back to the Citadel to confront Nasana Dantius and report back to Admiral Kahoku.

Gloria decided to keep rotating the ground team.  First Ashley/Kaidan, then Kaidan/Garrus, and finally Wrex/Tali on the ground on Therum.

Upon finally finding Liara, Gloria was non-committal at best.  Gloria has certainly cultivated some trust issues.

After the debrief, Gloria talked to the Council.  While the talk remained diplomatic, Gloria really was considering hitting that disconnect button.

Another round of "Talk Around the Normandy" awaits us when we resume, but our next stop is Feros.  I'm looking forward to who Gloria decides to bring along to the colony under attack from the Geth.  I'm also looking forward to her reaction to Liara's proposition.

Heh. You know, my boyfriend was doing just this with his mom. Sadly, their playthrough got put on hold because of moving, but he does say it was supercute, and that she was more of a renegade then he would have guessed!

This is so much fun to follow!

You need to do the whole trilogy + DLC!

I kind of wish ME had the ability to do multiplayer in the story. Kind of like in Baldur's Gate I. There'd only be one Shepard but at least one of the party members could be another player. There's a chance my wife would enjoy ME, but she never thinks its worth her time to play alone.

I would be very much on board for 'ME4' to have a co-op option where a friend could play a squadmate - even optionally interact in conversations with their own POV and agency.

That IS the plan!

I may have difficulty getting mom to do BDtS.  As it is, it's looking almost as if Gloria's first actual contact with Cerberus may be waking up in the Lazarus Project lab!

I think the general setup of ME2 with its (mostly) shorter missions and greater emphasis on characters will be a big help to mom's enjoyment.  She really is enjoying the conversations.  I think the maximum she might be able to handle would be 3-4 ME2 missions in one sitting.  I think the only ME2 DLC that might happen is Arrival just for the setup into ME3.  All of the DLCs for ME2 have some pretty lengthy combat stretches that may turn mom off.

Of course, if mom makes it through ME2, there's no way that she will skip ME3.  That's just a given.  With all DLC.  (Maybe not Omega.)

I'm 61. Let me know if she shoots Wrex on Virmire (I said "I don't have time for this."). Pops Rana Thanoptis, and sends Kaidan to arm the bomb "you know it's the right decision Commander", and saves Ashley.

On ME2, I let Zaeed kill Vido. I've worked in a refinery. What the hell does Shepard know about putting out a refinery fire? And I took every single Renegade interrupt, except I DID NOT punch the reporter. I actually liked the reporter. I thought she had a cool name. I romanced Thane.

Almost all of Gloria's non-neutral interaction was Paragon in this session.  Nothing major, but enough to creep the Paragon score above the Renegade for the first time since leaving Eden Prime.

After a long hiatus, my mom was the one who asked, "Hey, when are we gonna be able to play more of that game?" So Gloria Shepard's career resumes!

In between the previous session and this one, I took the time to play as many side missions that didn't include dialog as possible in an effort to get some XP and loot.  There are surprisingly few of those, especially this early in the game.  More on that later.

First it was time to talk to all of the squadmates.  Gloria started warming to Kaidan, got a lot of Asari background from Liara, and bonded with Ashley while repudiating her fears about "Wrex and Vakarian".  Sadly, when talking to Tali, my earlier additional missions came back to bite me when Gloria decided she didn't trust Tali enough to hand over the data collected from the Geth in the Armstrong Nebula.  Tali is no longer on speaking terms with Gloria.

Time to land on Feros, and Gloria decided to bring along Kaidan and Garrus.  All of Zhu's Hope's minor missions were completed and Gloria was left pretty confused about everyone deferring so heavily to Fai Dan.  She picked up Gavin Hossle's mission before heading all the way over to Exogeni Headquarters.  On the way back, Ethan Jeong didn't survive, but Gloria ordered that the colonists shouldn't be killed.  Most of them survived.

Down into the catacombs under Zhu's Hope, and things played out as per normal.  I was getting a little nervous for Shiala from Gloria's responses to her, but in the end, she lived (and so did the colony).

Back to the Normandy and ending with another round of squadmate chats.  It's looking like the romance is ON between Gloria and Kaidan.  Especially after shutting down Liara's advances.

Next stop: the Citadel.

Neroon, huh? Did your mother introduce you to Babylon 5 as well? So much space opera influence. Best mother.

Actually, I tried to introduce my mother to B5.  It didn't take as well as some other series.  Too far along in the 5 year plan methinks.

Ah, ha. I'm actually not the biggest Babylon 5 fan in the world, myself, but I think when it was good it was just unstoppably so.

This is really cool.

I insisted my mom try out Mass Effect but the best I could do is create a character based on her.

At first, it was my mom that would make all the major choices, but now its become my first fem-shep playthrough.

Hey, look at that! Meaningful choice!
This has been explained to you many times. "Mash Blue to win" requires no thought and very little attention on the part of the audience. It's boring and it cheapens the narrative.

I'm guessing this is the part of the thread where I invoke DA:O and you ignore it in favor of playing armchair psychiatrist again.

Mash Blue to win?  You can mash Red to win just as easily.

Also this is pretty nifty.  There was a thread on the old BW Social Network where a poster's WW2 vet Grandpa made a Shepard and mostly Paragon.  It's interesting to see the differences between the characters people completely unfamiliar with the games makes.

Also that's a nice idea.  You doing the non-dialog sidequests and miscellanious, while your mom does the actual relevant stuff.  Also why would it be difficult to get her to do BDtS?

The main reason BDtS is almost certainly not going to happen is because of how ME1 is setup to end when the main storyline is over.  There are more entries coming that may make it more clear, but Gloria is almost laser-focused on the Saren plot and any side missions that require going out of the way to accomplish are NOT going to happen.

In the same way, I'm pretty sure that Overlord is almost certainly not going to be done, and maybe not even LotSB.  At least in ME2 we'll have the luxury of being able to do those missions AFTER the ticking clock is taken care of.

It has been FAR too long since I updated this topic.

Since the last post, Gloria Shepard has not only finished up ME1, but also completed ME2, and now we've begun ME3.

Some highlights:

As expected, Gloria was laser focused on the Saren plot.  The only deviation was tracking down Dr. Saleon/Heart for Garrus, and that was ONLY because the star system was on the way to Virmire from Noveria.

Kirrahe survived, as did Wrex after a tense standoff that ended because Gloria had juuuust enough Paragon to have the option.

Gloria was awed by the conversation with Sovereign.

On the final mission, Gloria didn't take the Paragon option and we fought Saren on his floating platform again.  She opted to hold the Alliance fleets back to focus on Sovereign, and nominated Anderson as Human Counselor.

Overall impressions from ME2:

Mom NEVER got the hang of the interrupt system, leading to much facepalming from ME.

Gloria was slow to trust EVERYONE except Garrus and Mordin.

Zaeed was taken out a couple of times on Omega, but not once after he blew up at Gloria for saving the factory workers and not getting Paragoned when Vito got away.

Favorite squadmates ended up being Grunt and Miranda (she's just too useful).

Gloria finally warmed to Jack and Tali (took awhile), and sided with Jack in the Jack/Miri confrontation.  Miranda stayed on the sidelines after that.

Saved Maelon's data although Maelon ended up dead (stupid interrupts).

The Heretics were Destroyed.  Peace was maintained between Legion and Tali.

After a brief flirtation with Garrus, Gloria ended up romancing Thane.

Gloria made good choices on the SM and everyone survived (including a non-loyal Miranda and Zaeed).

On my insistence, Arrival and LotSB were completed for ME3 story reasons.  We also did Overlord, and Gloria was dutifully repulsed by what Archer did to David.

Did she side with Jack over Miranda because she lacked sufficient points to pass a persuade check? Or because she just chose to side with Jack?

Lack of points meant that she didn't have the option available, but she didn't have the points there because there were NUMEROUS places where she would ignore the Para/Rene options (plus all of those missed interrupts).  I think she really would have sided with Jack even if she had been able to do the Paragon option.

I just realized you never mentioned Shepard's class. I think that could say something about your mom's ideas about who Shepard is.

First time out on ME3 was very productive.

Gloria only changed her hairstyle in the intro.

She's not sure she likes this James guy.

Happy to see Kaidan again.  Oh wait. . .ARE THEY GONNA KILL HIM ALREADY!?!

Gloria was nonplussed at the reactions from the Council.

Chakwas is back on board the Normandy.

Due to an errant mouse click, Allers is NOT on board the Normandy (I'm considering fixing that through the editor).

Happy to see Garrus again.  A little leery of Liara and her seeming crush on Shepard.

Gloria is LOVING watching biotic explosions (Cerberus upgraded Soldier Shepard to a Sentinel back in ME2).
