That is because you know, the games are based on the books. Should CD Projekt Red change the world of the Withcer in order to promote social justice etc. ? Mess with Sapkowski's artistic integritiy?  :P

If it would get rid of his annoying main character I vote for them having his artistic integrity hung, drawn and quartered and its entrails scattered on the ground as a warning to others.

I love how the Witcher doesn't give a crap about this.

That's pushing it. What Bioware does is actually very good for many gamers. I found What the Witcher did to be just silly.

Well that wouldn't be a game about the Witcher right? A book series that was very popular in Europe way before the games were created.  <_<

Edit: seems I stirred the nest. No more from me in this topic. Peace people  :)

quality over quantity.

for example Lady Cauthrien vs. faceless female mobs.

one more thing. Battle of Ostagar cinematic, withdrawal of Loghain's forces. First line of soldiers.

I guess if BioWare went the Witcher route, some people would get their wish to get a sordid affair with Kaitlyn, Wynne, Valenna, Aveline, Grace, Sister/Mother Petrice, possibly even Tarohne lol

"Lady" Elegant wouldn't know what hit her.

Sorry, I've always been irritated because it's exactly the kind of game I like, but having read one of the books I know I find the main character to be a bit too whiny for me to tolerate. I therefore blame it for denying me what would otherwise be just my kind of game. There's plenty of other characters in the book, many of them not at all annoying, they could use one of them surely!

I really want Ser Cautherin to be in Inquisition. I know she won't, but I'd love to see her again. Maybe as the new general of Ferelden's armies.

Don't forget the "Trading Cards."

Hmm, that wouldn't be too hard to pull off.  I wouldn't mind seeing her again, she was pretty awesome.

But look at all that equal representation!

Just gotta ignore how one of the main female characters entire motivation was retconned into "lol evil magic makes you cray cray".

I do wish that Ser Cauthrien would appear again as some sort of bigger military figure. I finally got her to survive by investing in Zevran's poison-making stats.

I don't remember her too well, but I thought it was really cool she decided to turn on her commanding officer once she realized what a bad guy he was.

I wonder how they justified those cards, since I doubt those were in the book.

she lost her head... but she was worthy opponent.

side note: ( if you do not surrender in a manor when you are about to rescue Anora, you can massacre entire forces of Lady Cautrien and leave. Shame there is no such option that she can survive this battle, when you can beat Teagan and he will live.)

Yeah, and I like how you can tell how pained she was to do it too, but loyalty to Ferelden overpowered loyalty to Loghain.

Bioware takes an equal opportunity approach, making the males into sex objects as well, so everyone can be equal. The more broken the better to give dem folks something to fix.

I only wish this were true. Alas, it is still not possible to have sex with every hot dude in the game and collect trading cards.

BioWare, I demand that you add this feature to Inquisition! I mean, we've never been able to bone more than two or three men per game - how do you expect to compete with The Witcher with that pathetic selection? Surely devs of your calibre could one-up them by including an orgy scene that involves Varric, the Iron Bull, Feathers and an Antivan milk sandwich. Whatever that is.

I think I'm just going to stop talking about the Witcher all together.  It seems safer that way.  ;)

No, you're not alone.  While she wasn't my favorite NPC by any stretch, watching her forsake duty for honor right before the Landsmeet was a great moment.  I love having max persuasion with high cunning.

I never had a problem with it because I've always seen lineless NPCs as trees or some other random item in the background.

It certainly wouldn't hurt anyone if they did throw some random female NPCs in there from time to time. I just think it slipped their mind.

The NPC's at the Pearl and Blooming Rose don't count. ;)

This would only be true if the male LI's, or any LI for that matter, had no meaningful romance content.

I love how the mere mention of the Witcher series sends BSN forumites on a feminist tirade as if they feel the need to avenge Bioware for the embarrassment they suffered when the Witcher 2 completely outclassed the Dragon Age series in every conceivable way.

Good, you can go play that then.  Enjoy the Jell-o animation of the breasts as every plot important female NPC tries to have sex with you.  Gaze into the "plot depth" behind the "Lesbomancy" scene in the sequel.   Marvel at the variety of lady models!  You can have: Child, Old Woman or 20-30 yr old sexpot.  Bang hookers on the street, bang the waitress if you want.  Women are primarily there for Geralt's pleasure, nothing more.

Thank every benign being out there that DA is not the Witcher.  Unlike CDPR, BioWare obviously cares about presenting women in their games that doesn't reduce them to sex objects and quest rewards.

I get it's not your thing but there are positive aspects to the Witcher's approach to femininity and female characters (Most of the named characters in the second game actually). Some of your concerns can be directly attributed to the fact that the only player character is a predefined straight male character. I understand that you would want to play with a different perspective and I don't really want to open this can of worms as it's not really relevant to the discussion  but I will say that the cards from the first game were a horrible misjudgment on the behalf of the devs.

One thing I think is applicable to the future of both franchises is how CD Projekt want to move away from  game play mechanics where the player cuts down thousands upon thousands of faceless mooks. Maybe I'm just getting older but I am already  uncomfortable with the shear body count in current RPG's and it is bad enough when the victims are mostly male. Yes I may be old fashioned or sexist, but I honestly don't want equal representation of males and females among the faceless masses.

I am looking forward to the Witcher 3 because CD Projekt have indicated that they want every quest and every action to be inherently steeped in context and that violence will always be presented as a carefully weighted decision relevant to the plot. Whether they can pull this off is another  matter.

I am not so sure  about the scenarios presented by Bioware where you just mow down 200 red templars in the area just because they're there...

Funny, I feel no need to avenge Bioware. Witcher was terrible as a RPG in general to me for various reasons.

I'd argue the Witcher games went quite beyond what the source books had in terms of sexist attitudes, not to mention silly, objectifying fan service. Heck, through most of the books Geralt's relationships are limited to two major characters of the story, and it's made quite clear he treats these contacts seriously, with respect and is, if anything, farther from sleeping around than typical male in the Witcher universe. Something you'd never know from the first game (the second one handled that slightly better)
