So, yesterday a teaser trailer was released for a first-person horror game which is to be developed by Red Thread Games, a Norwegian game developer, which pretty much consists of people who worked on The Longest Journey adventure games at Funcom.

I loved Longest Journey and would like to try Secret World now that it's gone free to play. A horror game, however, is even better given my devoted passion for the genre. Check out the teaser here.

Hopefully this will revive a dying genre, or at least wet the appetite for us wanting a good horror game.

I'd like that - Hopefully there'll actually be some form of self-defense in it like Eternal Darkness or SH2. The problem with Amnesia was that it got repetitive too quick, partly because of the rather simple environment design, but the atmosphere was definitely tip-top though.

Interesting, though horror games don't scare me unless I'm half-asleep, and then only jump scares might affect me. I usually play them for the story/atmosphere, and to see the people watching me jump/cry/wet pants, etc.

Would also appreciate some form of self-defense; the whole "unbeatable" monster thing in Amnesia only served to lengthen the game as I hid until the drumbeat music subsided, time and again.

Should add as an aside that I also enjoy TLJ and Dreamfall, and am looking forward to the next installment of that story.

I think that's what made games like SH2 or Eternal Darkness 'scary' so to speak - Now when I say scary, I don't mean that they have you shivering in fear every second, while continuosly wetting yourself. They have you  tense, because what SH2, for instance, does best is atmosphere. It blends a perfect usage of melancholic guitar strings, and tumble dryer noises, mixed with car door slams, to create uneasy feeling in the evil dark world. Most of the time you never see Pyramid Head coming, but most monsters you do - And that's what makes it scary, because you know something is there, the radio tells you that there is. It keeps you on your toes all the time but it'll also result in you getting too paranoid and thus not always ready for what comes next. Of course, that's just how I view it.

Nice.  I love these type of games that just creep you out.  That being said, I am totally the type of player that screams and gets freaked out at EVERYTHING in these types of games (which is why I'm the one who always plays first when my buddies get together to play a new horror game).

Looks interesting for sure.

Well, what I'm hoping for this game is not only good atmosphere like Amnesia or Eternal Darkness but also a great story like the latter. Given that it's Lovecraftian-inspired too, because what isn't these days in modern horror, right? Hopefully it can be what Shadows of the Eternal could not.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem was awesome. Biggest hidden gem ever.

I quickly closed Gone Home after the light bulb blew. Should I play this game?

Definitely Lovecraftian, as Chris pointed out. Seems like it'd lie somewhere between the gameplay of Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs and setting/vibe of Clive Barker's Undying. It's my kind of game, the trailer looks great. Not much else to say.

Cool. This looks promising. Hopefully it'll focus more on subtlety, tension and atmosphere instead of following the trend of relying too much on jumpscares and gore (I don't mind the latter, though) that is so popular in the horror genre these days. Definitely gonna keep my eye on this.
