I feel I'm going to get a little bored of just using singularity, throw and warp combos to take out enemies because although it's fun, it's not intense or exciting enough. I know the adept has the weakest melee in the game but I was wondering if anyone had any good melee class setups that use close quarters powers like shockwave to make things interesting. I would appreciate weapon and armour suggestions too.

I have not played a melee Adept, so I can only provide some general suggestions.

I recall someone mentioning to me that the Adept's melee has damage bonuses versus all defenses (shields, barriers, and armor). The Adept's melee also got buffed in multiplayer if I recall, although I am unsure if that buff made its way into the single player.

Shotguns with the Omni Blade mod (Omega DLC) will improve your melee damage.

I suppose you can use Pull to yank enemies into melee range, and/or Singularity to hold enemies in place. I suppose you could use Lash as well.

Adept lacks native damage protection like the Sentinel, so Fortification would help since it has the best constant damage protection of the bonus powers. Purging it will also give you a melee damage bonus.

You may want armor with shield bonuses so you can get in melee range without taking much/any health damage, or melee damage armor if you really want to focus on melee.

Sorry I cannot help you more.

I did a shockwave heavy Adept, but didn't really go into melee (at least not as a habit).

Probably Fortification would make a lot of sense, as Red said.  Or you could try Reave and pretend you are a Drell Adept (at least with the heavy melee).

I'm dabbling in melee with an infiltrator right now and what I'm getting from that is that you really really want your heavy melees to at least 1-shot basic enemies... I recommend focusing on melee damage bonus, power duration and CC powers, since you don't have TC to close in on enemies. A defensive power might be necessary since you'll have bad HP - either Fortification for the damage bonus or maybe Defense Matrix to restore shield gate... but mainly I see you relying on cover and CC to stay alive.
